August 9th, 2020 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time

As we gather to celebrate the Lord’s Day, on this the first day of the week, we mark the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time. The Scripture texts given for our reflection today speak of the power of God.

I guess that if we were to write down all the things we are worried, anxious or concerned about our list would go from the sanctuary here right back to the main door of the church and maybe even well out into the street. Just think of all the things we are worried about: parents worried about their children, people worried about their health or that of others, farmers worrying about the weather or their livestock, financial worries, worries about relationships, worries about so many different things. WORRIES ABOUT COVID-19.

When troubles come our way often we forget that God is still with us. It is strange really, but that is what happens to so many people when they get upset. They think God has gone on holidays. But that is not so. God is still with us. We cannot always rely on our feelings, and we can rely on them still less when there is something bothering us. The truth is that God is with us always, whether or not we feel his presence. Don’t ever forget that Jesus and Mary are always with you no matter what your feelings tell you. God and Mary will not abandon you. Remember when Jesus was worried he prayed and received strength in prayer to face his passion. Let’s finish with a reflection to assure us that Jesus is still with us even when we don’t feel his presence. One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD. When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it. "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me." The LORD replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

IN MOMENTS OF DARKNESS AND INTERIOR STORMS, HOW DO YOU REACT? WHAT DO YOU ASK THE LORD IN A DARK NIGHT? A MIRACLE, THAT HE FREES YOU

FROM THIS?

Next Saturday Fr. Javier will begin his new assignment at St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Paterson. I would like to thank him for all the good work he has done for us for the last three years. WE GIVE THANKS TO GOD ALWAYS FOR FR. JAVIER BECAUSE OF THE GRACE OF GOD THAT HAS BEEN GIVEN TO HIM IN CHRIST JESUS. Next Saturday we will welcome our new priest Fr. Joemin Kharlo Chong Parinas (Fr. Jake) We pray and wish him all the best as he begins his first assignment in Long Valley. Please show him your love and

support. Born in Bangued, Abra, Philippines, Fr. Parinas is the son of Faustina Rechilda Chong Parinas and Carlos Comines Parinas. He was graduated from St. Joseph Minor Seminary (high school), (2009). He earned a

bachelor’s degree in philosophy with a minor in teaching from San Pablo Major Seminary (college), (2013) and a Master of Divinity degree from Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md.

Holy Mass (August 15th – Saturday at 10am)

Next Saturday (August 15) we celebrate solemnity THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY and to mark this special day that gives honor The Blessed Virgin Mary I am going to celebrate a special mass at our church at 10am. Our new priest will be present at this mass for the first time so come and welcome him.

Page 4: OUR LADY OF THE MOUNTAIN CHURCH...2020/08/09  · when I needed you most you would leave me." The LORD replied, "My precious, precious child, I love you and I would never leave you

This significant feast day recalls the spiritual and physical departure of the mother of Jesus Christ from the earth, when both her soul and her body were taken into the presence of God. Pope Pius XII confirmed this belief about the Virgin Mary as the perennial teaching of the Church when he defined it formally as a dogma of Catholic faith in 1950, invoking papal infallibility to proclaim, “that the Immaculate Mother of God, the ever-Virgin Mary, having completed the course of her earthly life, was assumed body and soul into heavenly glory.”

ON FRIDAY (AUGUST 14TH) WE HAVE OUR DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION AT 3PM --- COME AND SEE THE

GOODNESS OF THE LORD. MANY THANKS TO ALL THOSE WHO HELP US CLEAN AND SANITIZE CHURCH BETWEEN AND AFTER MASS ON SATURDAY AND SUNDAY. YOUR SERVICE TO OUR CHURCH IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANK YOU AND GOD BLESS YOU!!!

From Fr. Javier Greetings! My beloved brothers, sisters, friends, and young people, I thank God each time I think of you and when I pray, I pray with gladness. I want to offer my gratitude first of all to all Mighty God for the gift of the priesthood and for all of you, my beloved friends from Our Lady of the Mountain and St Mark, for all that you did for me, and for the ways you opened your hearts to me. You taught me what it means to be a priest. Also, I want to express my gratitude to our pastor Father Marcin for being very supportive and for being a good friend and mentor. I am really grateful for how you welcomed me in a way I could never have anticipated. Your kindness, your love, your support, and your patience had a huge impact on my life as a human being and as a priest. It is truly an honor, a privilege and I am truly joyful for having spent the first three years of my priesthood in these two families. I am truly edified and have grown through the many challenges which became the stepping stones to my new assignment. Everything I have experienced here in Long Valley, cannot be reproduced or reinvented elsewhere, for Our Lady of the Mountain and St Mark remain unique and special in my heart. I am glad to have experienced that uniqueness and the special qualities of these communities. You have been there in every thought, plan, activity and prayer that I raise up to God. You have been there when I called you, invited you, and included you to be part of our Church family. You were with me all the way in every step that I took in building my priesthood and spiritual life. You have been part of my ministry and my life as a priest, as a friend, and as a family. I would like to thank the Parish Staff and Deacons from OLM and St Mark, you were a vital part of making my ministry more enjoyable. Also, I would like to thank all the ministries and groups for their fervent and dedicated service as well as their care for our communities and priests. All your efforts will be truly blessed. Last, but not least, I am not only sent by my Bishop, to my new assignment at Saint John’s Cathedral in Paterson, I am sent by you. You are also part of this mission. What I have experienced, at OLM and St Mark, will inspire and help me to be open to a greater world and God. Pleased remember to keep in your prayers this priest with a Colombian accent. I will keep you in mine. Thank you and God bless. Rev Javier Bareno Castillo Cathedral of St. John the Baptist 381 Grand Street, Paterson, NJ 07505

PRAY DAILY.

.PRAYER OF POPE FRANCIS FOR PROTECTION AND HELP.

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and of hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick, who at the cross took part in Jesus’ pain, keeping your faith firm. You…know what we need, and we are sure you will provide so that, as in Cana of Galilee, we may return to joy and to feasting after this time of trial. Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform to the will of the Father and to do as we are told by Jesus, who has taken upon himself our sufferings and carried our sorrows to lead us, through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen. Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God. Do not disdain the entreaties of those of us who are in trial, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin. PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY A ROSARY DAILY TO MARY OUR MOTHER DURING THIS PANDEMIC.

public as well as for parishes, schools, retreat houses, military installations, correctional facilities, legislatures, the medical
