TODAY, is World Mission Sunday! In Scripture, we read that St. Paul asked the Gentile Churches to take up a collection to support the Church in Jerusalem. Now we are asked to reach out and support the young churches throughout our world. Your prayers and generous gifts to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith in the collection today will help missionaries offer the poor of these areas practical help as they share the mercy of God. Go out to the whole world through your gift in today’s collection.!

Preview of Next Sunday’s Readings Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

October 25, 2015 First reading: Jeremiah 31:7-9 Second reading: Hebrews 5:1-6 Gospel: Mark 10:46-52 A reading from the Book of the Prophet Jeremiah Thus says the LORD: Shout with joy for Jacob, exult at the head of the nations; proclaim your praise and say: The LORD has delivered his people, the remnant of Israel. Behold, I will bring them back from the land of the north; I will gather them from the ends of the world, with the blind and the lame in their midst, the mothers and those with child; they shall return as an immense throng. They departed in tears, but I will console them and guide them; I will lead them to brooks of water, on a level road, so that none shall stumble. For I am a father to Israel, Ephraim is my first-born. A reading from the Letter to the Hebrews Brothers and sisters: Every high priest is taken from among men and made their representative before God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He is able to deal patiently with the ignorant and erring, for he himself is beset by weakness and so, for this reason, must make sin offerings for himself as well as for the people. No one takes this honor upon himself but only when called by God, just as Aaron was. In the same way, it was not Christ who glorified himself in becoming high priest, but rather the one who said to him: You are my son: this day I have begotten you; just as he says in another place: You are a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. A reading from the holy Gospel according to Mark As Jesus was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a sizable crowd, Bartimaeus, a blind man, the son of Timaeus, sat by the roadside begging. On hearing that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, son of David, have pity on me." And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent. But he kept calling out all the more, "Son of David, have pity on me." Jesus stopped and said, "Call him. "So they called the blind man, saying to him, "Take courage; get up, Jesus is calling you." He threw aside his cloak, sprang up, and came to Jesus. Jesus said to him in reply, "What do you want me to do for you?" The blind man replied to him, "Master, I want to see." Jesus told him, "Go your way; your faith has saved you." Immediately he received his sight and followed him on the way.

Religious Education Office Twenty-ninth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 18, 2015 Sunday’s Gospel, Mark 10:35-45 Reflecting in God’s Word. Parents are in the best position to live this Gospel message in their own families. Parents have the most power, which makes it easy for children to recognize when they are being served. In simple, everyday actions, like getting our own drink of water, changing the television channel ourselves, or helping a child with his/her daily chores, children recognize their parents respect and appreciate them. Children also watch parent's actions to see how they serve others. We all know from our own experiences that the person we most admire is the one who helps us carry our load, not the one who adds to it.

Bringing the Gospel Into Your Family Make plans as a family to serve someone else. Think of someone you know whose load is heavy right now. Maybe you know an elderly person in your neighborhood who might like to join you for dinner, or go for a ride. Perhaps there is someone sick or in a nursing home who would enjoy a visit from your family. Try to live this Gospel on a regular basis. Each time you serve one person, think about what you will do next as a servant of God. Question of the Week Children: Am I willing to help others even if nobody thanks me for it? Why?

Adults: How do I feel when I do something good and I am not acknowledge? Why?

Ninos: ¿Deseo ayudar a otros auque no me den las gracias? Por que?

Adultos: ¿Como me siento cuando ago algo bueno y no se me reconoce? Por que me siento de esa forma?

Ask Your Kids Open-Ended Questions Communication is key for making sure you are up to date with your kids’ lives – as they grow older and you can’t be with them every step of the way. One way to keep communication healthy is to ask your kids open-ended questions. Some kids don’t open up and spill every detail, so you have to consider how to phrase questions that draw them in and allow them to share their thoughts and experiences. When you do ask open-ended questions, make sure you are patient in waiting for the answers. For a copy of the complete VIRTUS® article email: [email protected].

DID YOU KNOW?

¿SABIA USTED?
