Preview of Next Sunday’s Readings Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

February 11, 2018 First reading: Leviticus 13:1-2,44-46 Second reading: Corinthians10:31-11:1 Gospel: Mark 1:40-45 A reading from the first Book of Leviticus The Lord said to Moses and Aaron, "If someone has on his skin a scab or pustule or blotch which appears to be the sore of leprosy, he shall be brought to Aaron, the priest, or to one of the priests among his descendants. If the man is leprous and unclean, the priest shall declare him unclean by reason of the sore on his head. "The one who bears the sore of leprosy shall keep his garments rent and his head bare, and shall muffle his beard; he shall cry out, 'Unclean, unclean!' As long as the sore is on him he shall declare himself unclean, since he is in fact unclean. He shall dwell apart, making his abode outside the camp." A reading from the first Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians Brothers and sisters, Whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God. Avoid giving offense, whether to the Jews or Greeks or the church of God, just as I try to please everyone in every way, not seeking my own benefit but that of the many, that they may be saved. Be imitators of me, as I am of Christ. A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Mark A leper came to Jesus and kneeling down begged him and said, "If you wish, you can make me clean." Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, "I do will it. Be made clean." The leprosy left him immediately, and he was made clean. Then, warning the him sternly, he dismissed him at once. He said to him, "See that you tell no one anything, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer for your cleansing what Moses prescribed; that will be proof for them." The man went away and began to publicize the whole matter. He spread the report abroad so that it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly. He remained outside in deserted places, and people kept coming to him from everywhere.

Religious Education Office Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time February 4, 2018 Sunday’s Gospel, Mark 1:29-39 Reflecting in God’s Word for Parents A day goes by and before we know it we are falling into bed exhausted. We intended to take time to pray, but time got away from us. In today's Gospel Jesus teaches us by example that it is important to take time to be alone to pray. From prayer we can draw strength to do what each day requires, most specially by showing our family in word and by deed what it means to be a disciple of Jesus, a child of God.

Bringing the Gospel Into your Family To foster prayer in the home, choose a small table or a space where you can create a prayer area. Cover your table with a cloth in the color of the liturgical season, and place upon it a Bible, a candle, and a crucifix or cross. With your family, decide on when you will gather to pray together around your prayer table or in your prayer space.

Question of the Week Children: How can I share my faith and trust in Jesus with my friends? Adults: What can I do to be better prepared to proclaim the Good News with conviction?

ENCOUNTER LENT Join our faith community - and nearly 14,000 Catholic communities across the United States - in a life-changing Lenten journey of encounter with CRS Rice Bowl.

Commit to building family values and protecting vulnerable children Children are exposed to many words, expressions, actions, and beliefs through their experiences. This is how they learn to become adults, and learn how to live in the world around them. Children turn to their parents for guidance. Strong family values modeled at home help children sustain their faith and teach them to live as children of God. Recommit to your families – listen to your children, model good behavior and virtue, and instruct them in faith. Pray to Mary for help, and ask her for guidance in raising your children as she did her Son. This Week and Coming Events

Together in Mission 2018 Today, Archbishop Gomez invites every Catholic to make their annual \ commitment to Together in Mission. Last year, 267 PARISH DONORS helped us raise $68,199.00 and helped us to become one of the most generous parishes in the Archdiocese. This year’s theme of Let Us Love reminds us that our gifts to Together in Mission are an active demonstration of our faith and love for those in our Archdiocese who need our support. We invite all families, those who have given in the past, and those who have never made a gift to prayerfully consider to make a commitment to this year’s campaign. Your gifts will go a long way to helping our parish reach our 2018 PARISH GOAL OF $61,965.00. Next weekend is Together in Mission’s Commitment Sunday. Archbishop Gomez invites us to make our annual commitment to help those parishes and schools that need our support to continue serving the spiritual needs of our neediest communities. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
