December 23, 2018 Fourth Sunday of Advent Dear Brothers and Sisters, One of the most important aspects of parish life is effective communication. Our parish office staff work hard to provide beautiful worship, positive pastoral care, faith formation and good administration. If you are new to Our Lady of the Rosary you may not know everyone in the parish office. I have therefore asked four of our staff members to provide the parish letter during Advent so you can get to know them and understand their behind the scenes work. If you have questions, comments and suggestions about our parish life together, these are the people to talk to. They will bring your suggestions and comments forward so we are able to serve you to the best of our ability. Massimo Scapin, Director of Music: The Italian musician who is writing to you is the Choirmaster and Organist of this definite community of the Christian faithful established within the Diocese of Charleston. Last March I moved here with my family: my wife, a Russian horn player, and five children (three daughters, 2 months, 4 and 6 years old, and two step sons, aged 14 and 17). We left the ancient and glorious “City of Rome where Christ is Roman”, in Dante’s celebrated phrase (Purgatory 32:102), suita-ble for expressing my love for the Rome that had become the city of the Lord, the center of His Church. I completed my studies in piano, composition, choral and orchestral conducting and also in religious sciences. My duty here is to develop the music ministry in this traditionally minded, growing parish with a recently constructed new church, complete with a twenty-one rank Wicks pipe organ in an excellent acoustical setting. Responsibilities include serv-ing as director for an adult choir and a supervisor of a girls’ choir (prepared by dear and talented Rahab Rice, second organist), cantoring and playing for the Masses after the First Vespers of Sunday (Anticipated Mass) and Sunday even-ing, as well as other celebrations of the liturgical year. Duties also include teach-ing music in the parish school and conducting the choir for the weekly Mass with the school. I hope that the noble and distinguished art of sacred music may contribute more every day to greater splendor in the celebration of divine worship and to the more effective nourishment of spiritual life among the faithful. I would like to use this opportunity to make an appeal for more people to join the choir, for both Sunday Masses (10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m.). As we approach the Solemnity of our Lord’s Birth among us, let me already wish you and your families a holy and peaceful Christmas!

MOTHER TERESA HOUSE Merry Christmas to all of our very generous parishioners!
As you can imagine both St. Vincent de Paul and Mother Teresa House have been very busy at this special time of year. Heating costs are high and homelessness is extensive. We have had greater costs in trying to assist our guests. Any financial donation to either ministry would be most appreciated. Checks on behalf of Mother Teresa House should be made to OLR with Mother Teresa House noted in the memo line. Checks can be placed in the collection basket using an envelope marked Mother Teresa House. Checks for St. Vincent de Paul can be made directly to St. Vincent de Paul. It us helpful if they are also placed in an envelope marked SVDP for the collection basket. If you prefer, checks can be given directly to one of our volunteers.
Thanks very much.

Cold and Flu Season - Sign of Peace During Mass
Now that we have entered the cold and flu season, the physical exchange
of the sign of peace during Mass will be suspended until further notice.
Concerning receiving the Precious Blood from the chalice during the
distribution of Holy Communion, you may continue to do so, but please
use your best judgment. If you are sick, we would suggest that you refrain
from receiving from the chalice.
Regardless, remember that the Church teaches that if you receive in one
kind under the outward form of bread only, you still receive the entire
Christ - Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.
