Food Certificates Food certificates to local supermarkets are on sale in the parish office. The proceeds from this sale - $5.00 for every $100.00 worth of certificates purchased – goes to help us feed the hungry. We remember that the Lord said, “When I was hungry, you gave me to eat; when I was thirsty, you gave me to drink.” Through the purchase of food certificates, you can help the parish serve the needs of the hungry.
FOOD DRIVE: WEEKEND OCTOBER 10TH & 11TH
Our monthly food drive takes place next weekend. Donations from our parishioners significantly benefit the Blessed Sacrament Food Pantry in Newark. They have a great need for: hot cereal, cereal, soups, peanut butter, jelly, tomato sauce, pasta, rice and lentils. There will also be a box in the vestibule for monetary donations. Thank you for your support, it is greatly appreciated. PAPER AND PLASTIC BAGS ARE ALSO NEEDED.
From Needlework's Ministry: We would like you to know that we are still busy knitting. We would like to remind everyone that if they know of anyone in need of a prayer shawl or lap blanket to please contact us. We do not need a name. We just want to provide some comfort for those in need. Home Alone There are challenges that face our children when they are home alone. Being prepared and informed will help keep our children safe. Veronica Allende, director of the Division of Criminal Justice states, "You may think nothing can happen with your children being home all day, but please be vigilant." Officials offered the following advice for parents:
Teach your children that the people they encounter online may not be who they seem.
Familiarize yourself with popular apps and gaming platforms that predators have used to target young victims during Operation Screen Capture and prior investigations.
Check the security setting on your child's phones and see if they're able to be contacted by strangers through apps, games and social media.
Constantly remind children not to share personal information with strangers on the internet, either through email or chat, or even through a screen name that could unwittingly reveal gender or age. Children should also be told to never take inappropriate photos and videos of themselves. Be weary if your child is secretive or protective about their phone or computer.
