PASTOR’S COLUMN

Dear Community of Our Lady of Perpetual Help,

“The Lord has done great things for us … we are filled with joy …” Psalm 126 God has been working in our life … always. We can never count the blessings that He has bestowed on us. His kindness is eternal. His faithfulness is forever. Even though we have turned our back to Him, He remains with us! He brings profound meaning to all that we live. As we live our Lent, He reminds us that He will always bring new life to us. As we draw near Him in the Sacraments, He reveals His life to us, He makes us new constantly.

“I am doing something new! …” Isaiah As we approach Holy Week, let us ask Jesus to make us like Him. He is so patient and merciful with all. Let us be with others, as He was with the woman caught in adultery.

“Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her …” John

Monsignor Lorenzo

LOVE IN ACTION

When we see others suffering, we might think, “The Church should do something.” Yet, as members of the Church, it’s our job to take action and share Christ’s love. We can be a lis-tening ear, a helping hand, or an encouraging voice to someone in need. Whatever it is, the Church can always “do something.”

NO ONE IS SINLESS

“Sin” isn’t a word we use very o en in today’s

culture. Yet we must be honest and acknowledge

that we sin. Otherwise, we become like people with

a disease who are in denial of its implica ons—we

cannot hope to be cured unless we admit that it ex-

ists. Sin is a disease of the soul, a dis-ease in our re-

la onship with God. When we sin, we fail to live as

we know God desires. The truth is, no one is sinless.

We all fail. We may have moments of intense union

with God and live as we know we ought. Yet we also

have mes when we miss the mark. Because we are

human and know that we fail, it is easy to adopt a

pa ern of judgmental behavior. We point to the

splinter in our neighbor’s eye while failing to re-

move the plank from our own. Jesus’ response to

the scribes and Pharisees is clear on this account.

“Let the one among you who is without sin be the

first to throw a stone at her.”

GOD’S MERCY IS FOR EVERYONE

The bad news is that we all sin. The good news is

that God’s mercy is available, always, at all mes.

We must be sorry for our failures and, if our sin is

grave, take part in the sacrament of Reconcilia on.

Jesus’ encounter with the woman in today’s Gospel,

as with so many others in the course of his earthly

ministry, stands as proof that God is merciful and

forgiving. As we con nue to journey through the

season of Lent, it is good for

us to pause and reflect—on

our rela onship with Christ

and on God’s infinite mercy. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc

“¡Yo estoy haciendo algo nuevo! …”

Juan

Good Friday/Holy Land Collection
