January 22, 2017 - 22 de enero de 2017 Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

Tercer Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario

Sunday Reflection Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Last Saturday, I attended the funeral mass of Fr. John Daly. I met Fr. John a couple of times while I served at Holy Family in Glendale. He was the pastor emeritus of Holy Trinity

Church in Atwater and was residing in the rectory. As I attended his future, I was first amazed at how packed the church was with people flowing out the main doors. You could tell that he was well loved and that he loved the people. Secondly, as we gave thank for his life and ministry, it was a blessing that he served as a priest for 58 years. Wow! What an amazing life! To think of how many people he brought to Christ and showed them God's love and mercy is astounding. And his foundation is grounded in our Gospel today. In the longer form of our Gospel, we hear of Jesus invitation to repent - to receive the mercy and compassion of God reminding us that it is a gift that He will freely give us if we ask of it. But, he also goes further in inviting his first disciples to follow him. Fr. John experienced that love and goodness of Christ in such a powerful way that he decided to return that love and goodness in his vocation as a priest, to be Christ for others. Let us give thanks for Fr. John for his ministerial priesthood and let us continue to pray for more vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Christ is calling us. May we respond with generous hearts. We continue to pray for an end to abortion as we acknowledge the ruling of Roe vs. Wade which took place 44 years ago. It is estimated that 58.5 MILLION babies have been killed through abortion. Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the LIFE. We must protect all life from conception to natural death. Next week, we celebrate Catholic School Week acknowledging our own parish school and our mission of providing a quality Catholic education to our children. All are invited to continue to assist our school by attending our annual School Gala on February 11th at 6PM. We honor the Daughters of Mary and Joseph (Foundresses) and Fr. Alexander Lewis. Hope to see you then. Blessings always. Our Lady of Peace... pray for us.

Upcoming Improvements.

Within this month, we will be removing the carpeting of the sanctuary. The practical reason for this change is to allow for easier maintenance and cleaning. At the same time, although it is not expected, if even a drop of the Precious Blood is spilled on carpet, that piece must be cut out, removed and properly disposed. Our building fund goes to such projects and we will have our next second collection for this fund on January 29th. If you would like to donate specifically for this project, please contact Deacon Rey. Thank you for your generosity and ownership as we continue to care for our parish. - Fr. Mike

Thank you! Gracias! Salamat Po! Sunday, January 15, 2017 collection $ 13,223.00
