afraid.” (John 14:27) Our limited human understanding cannot begin to understand the immense power of God. Instead of
trusting in God, we think we can control every outcome. Do you want to make God laugh? Tell Him
your plans. The next time worry, anxiety or fear creeps in, thank God for all He has given you and
trust that He has a better plan for you.

Mrs. Ellen Fleming’s Retirement Reception
After 30 years of service to the parish, our Office Manager, Ellen Fleming, has retired as of April 30th. Please join us for a Retirement Reception for Mrs. Fleming on June 2 following the 10:00 am in the church hall. All parishioners are welcome!
The following is Part 1 of excerpts from the homily that I delivered last weekend at the
Mass of Thanksgiving for a friend who had just been ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Boston. Parts 2 and 3 will be forthcoming over the next couple of weeks.
As you embark on your priestly ministry, Father, I would like to share these thoughts: Comfort those who are struggling; but rattle the cages of those who would be compla-
cent. Remember that there is no recorded instance in the entire New Testament of Jesus telling anyone that he or she is doing just fine. To just keep up the good work. To not change a thing. Jesus calls each of us to conversion. There is no instance of Jesus chasing after anyone who did not accept His teaching. Jesus, the Good Shepherd, knew how to be pastoral without com-promising the truth or abandoning His mission to do the will of the Father. Jesus consistently encourages us to do better. Our spiritual lives are a continual struggle against our fallen hu-man natures. We want to do what we want to do. We are constantly tempted to pick and choose at the smorgasbord of Satan, rather than dine at the banquet of heaven where there is a fixed menu of doing the will of the Father. Jesus never compromised. Jesus never ran after anyone. Jesus runs towards us, He does not run after us.
Jesus invites us to believe and follow. To believe that Jesus is the Son of God – the way,
the truth, and the life. And then to obey the commandments and live the Beatitudes. Live them, and teach them, Father. Faithfully. Gently, but firmly. Without compromise. But re-member that the law finds its fulfillment in love. And that a key element of love is for-giveness.
Take to heart Paul’s prophetic admonition to Timothy: “Preach the Good News. Be
persistent, whether that Word is welcomed or unwelcomed. Refute falsehood; correct error; give encouragement -- but do it all with patience, taking care to instruct. For the time is sure to come when people will not accept sound teaching, but their ears will be itching for anything new and they will collect themselves teachers according to their own tastes, and they will shut their ears to the truth and will turn to myths. But you must keep steady all the time: put up with suffering; do the work of preaching the Gospel; fulfill the task asked of you.” Then and only then, will you have competed well, finished the race, and kept the faith.
Fr. Lou Away For Military Service Please keep Father Lou in your prayers as he will be away for Military Service from May 14-Aug 29 at Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.

HOLY DAY OF OBLIGATION Vigil Mass Wednesday, May 29 7:00 P.M
ASCENSION THURSDAY MASSES 7:00 A.M., 12:00 Noon and 7:00 P.M. (Spanish)
Remember, Lord, the fallen
who died in fields of war, in flaming clouds, in screaming crowds,
on streets that are no more, that we today might waken
and greet this day in peace with grateful prayer for those who bear
the storms that never cease.
Remember friends and strangers, and those forgotten now,
whose names are known to you alone, before whose love we bow
and ask that you surround them with mercy’s endless light
that they may live, and we forgive the foe they went to fight.
