Dates to Remember

The Archbishop’s Annual Appeal The Archdiocese of Newark’s Office of Human Concerns works to spread the Gospel’s challenge of our need to care for the poor and the marginalized with-in our society. It does this by making presentations in parishes, schools and religious education programs about the importance of Catholic Social Teaching, specific social issues and the importance of service in the life of the Church. The Office of Human Concerns also works with youth groups from both the Archdiocese of Newark and nation-ally who are looking for service projects and an oppor-tunity to reflect on their experiences. During the last two summers, over 80 young people from around the country will come to the Archdiocese to serve the poor with ser-vice projects in our shelters, parishes and soup kitchens. This Office creates a greater awareness of the important social issues of the day such as poverty, climate change and fair housing by providing information to parishes and practical ways to be involved in making positive changes to the world. Thank you for your support of the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, which makes the Office of Human Concerns a reality! Pencils and AAA envelopes are located in the church pews and in the back of the church.

Religious Education Please Note... Registration for the 2013-2014 school year has begun. Information and forms have been given to the children. Forms are also available on our website. First Holy Communion Children will receive their First Holy Communion on Sun-day, May 12 during the 12:15 p.m. Mass.

If God calls you, call us! Religious Teachers Filippini

www.filippiniusa.org Continuing the ministry of Jesus the Teacher Are you being called to share your life in love and ser-vice as a consecrated woman in religious life as a

Sister? Are you willing to allow the Lord to consecrate your gifts, talents and enthusiasm for life to Him, the Beloved? Are you passionately in love with Jesus

Christ? If you have questions or are curious about the prayer, ministry and community life of the Religious

Teachers Filippini, contact Sister Shirlee at [email protected]

6th Sunday of Easter “…do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.” JOHN 14:27 When we let the daily pressures of life trouble us, we begin to believe that we are responsible for taking care of everything. This causes us to frantically cling to our time and treasure. Yet, Jesus tells us not to be troubled or afraid. Take a deep breath, pray and place your trust in God. When you do, you will be a better steward of all that God has placed in your care.

Respect Life Our Lady’s Monthly Prayer Vigil for Life is on Monday, May 13 at Assumption Church (29 Jefferson Ave., Emerson). Mass is at 7 p.m. followed by Eucharistic Adoration, Rosary, opportunity for the Sacra-

ment of Reconciliation and Benediction. A brief discus-sion and fellowship will conclude the evening.

As mariners are guided into port by the shining of a

star, so Christians are guided to heaven by Mary.
