Peter’s Pence In the second collection today, we are supporting the Holy Father in his charitable works. The Peter’s Pence Collec-tion is taken up worldwide to support the most disadvan-taged: victims of war, oppression, and natural disasters. This is an opportunity to join with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, and be witness of charity to our suffering broth-ers and sisters.

Our Collection for March 2 was $5,222. As you give to the Lord, may He bless you in return.

Easter Flowers Next weekend (March 15/16), our second collection is for Easter Flowers.

Religious Education ~We will celebrate a children’s Mass every Sunday at 10:45 a.m. All children and parents are encour-aged to attend. ~Confirmation Confirmation has been resched-uled for Sunday, April 6 during the 12:15 p.m. Mass. The Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Thomas Donato.

2014 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal This year the theme of the Appeal is When I Called, You Answered. It comes from Psalm 138 where the psalmist thanks God for hearing his prayer. God calls us also and we answer in many ways. The Archbishops Annual Appeal (AAA) is one way God calls and our par-ticipation is our answer to Him. The AAA

provides the poor with food, shelter and clothing; makes religious education, spiritual guidance and CYO athletics available for the young; ensures the future leadership of the Church with seminarian education and training; and most importantly, brings Christ’s Good News to the peo-ple of the Archdiocese. Supporting the Archbishop’s An-nual Appeal is our thanks to God for hearing our prayers. Pencils and AAA envelopes will be located in the church pews and in the back of the church. Thank you.

1st Sunday of Lent “It is written: The Lord, your God, shall you worship and him alone shall you serve.” MATTHEW 4:10 Tempted between the riches and power of this world and service to God, Jesus chose service to His Father. If we wish to truly follow Jesus, we, too, must decide to turn away from power and riches and put God at the center of our lives.

Palm Crosses Sister Mary Rose and her dedicated volunteers will be selling palm cross-es before and after all masses on March 22/23 and 29/30. Each cross is $10. Here are our 2014 Lenten Regulations regarding Fast and Abstinence: 1. The days of both Fast and Abstinence during Lent

are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. The other Fridays of Lent are days of Abstinence. On a day of Fast, only one full meal is permitted. Those between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast. On a day of Abstinence, no meat may be eaten. Those who have reached the age of 14 are obliged by the law of absti-nence.

2. The obligation to observe the laws of Fast and Absti-nence “substantially,” or as a whole, is a serious obli-gation.

3. The Fridays of the year, outside of Lent, are desig-nated as days of penance, but each individual may substitute for the traditional abstinence from meat some other practice of voluntary self-denial as pen-ance.
