PRAYER FOR ST. PADRE PIO OF PIETRELCINA BY POPE SAINT JOHN PAUL II

“Teach us, we pray, humility of heart, so that we may be counted among the little ones of the Gospel to whom the Father promised to reveal the mysteries of His Kingdom. Help us to pray without ceasing, certain that God knows what we need even before we ask Him. Obtain for us the eyes of faith that will help us recognize in the poor and suffering, the very face of Jesus. Sustain us in the hour of trouble and trial and, if we fall, let us experience the joy of the sacrament of forgiveness. Grant us your tender devo-tion to Mary, mother of Jesus and our Mother. Accompa-ny us on our earthly pilgrimage toward the blessed Homeland, where we too, hope to arrive to contemplate forever the Glory of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

FOOD DRIVE— SUNDAY, MAY 3

The Our Lady of Mount Car-mel Knights of Columbus will be conducting a Food Drive outside of the Parish Center from 11:30-1:30 Sunday May 3. Please stop by and drop off a donation – no need to get out of the car; the Knights will remove the bags or boxes directly from your car trunk! The food will be donated to Worcester’s Friendly House Food Pantries. Thank you for your help in a time of increasing need.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Hello Everyone, I hope you are staying well and safe during this time of pandemic. Please know that I continue to pray for you at daily Mass in our chapel and in my private daily prayer. I pray for a quick end for this pandemic with a minimal loss of life. This morning I was informed that our custodian Howard Green’s mother died late Tuesday night from effects of the covid-19 virus. Her name is Irene Green, and I kindly ask that you keep her in your prayers as well as her family. She was 85 years old. This Sunday, May 3rd, beginning at 11:30 am, we are having another food drive. When we had this drive two weeks ago, you, as a parish family, donated more than 1200 pounds of food, including monetary donations, which went to assist Friendly House as they seek to help those in need of food. If you know of anyone in need of food, please do not hesitate to call us at the parish center (508-753-5001) or me at the rectory (508-304-9988). Especially during this time, we, as a community of faith, must be there for each other, especially those in need. So many have lost their jobs and find themselves in need of the most basic staples of life at this time. We, as Church, must be there to help them. Please continue to check on each other, and I thank those of you who continue to check on me through your phone calls and notes. I am touched by your care and concern. Please take the time Sunday morning to drop of non-perishable food items at the parish center for distribution to those who need them. I am grateful as always for your generous response. We will have a food drive every two weeks to assist those who need our help! Eventually once we get past this pandemic, I would like to start our own food pantry here at the parish as we had at Mt. Car-mel parish center. There is always a need to feed the hungry. Thank you for your continuing generosity to our parish. It helps us to keep things going. Please don’t forget your donations and pledges to Partners in Charity. We are a little over 50% towards our goal of $50,000. This appeal provides a vital lifeline to so many in our Diocese and throughout Worcester County. We need your help! Continue to pray to our Lord, to our Blessed Lady, our patron saint and to Saint Padre Pio for their help and intercession dur-ing this very difficult time Please remember me in your prayers as I continue to pray for you and your intentions. Please stay safe and healthy! And again, thank you for your wonderful kindness and incredible generosity!! Easter blessings! Monsignor Pedone

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and Our Lady of

Loreto Parish PRAYER FOR PARISH SPIRITUAL RENEWAL

Lord God, You love us with an everlasting love, and You choose

us to share Your love with others. We ask that You rekindle in our hearts a new spirit of faith, of prayer

and of reconciliation. Inspire us to search out and find ways of bringing one another closer to You. We pray

for all who form our parish community, that we remain faithful to Your teaching, that we remain steadfast in

our prayer, both personal and communal, that togeth-er with You and the Holy Spirit, our parish may be re-newed and transformed. All this we ask in the name

of Jesus and through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

A PRAYER IN TIME OF PANDEMIC

O God, whose Only Begotten Son bore the weight of human suffering for our salvation, hear the prayers of your Church for our sick brothers and sisters and deliver us from this time of trial. Open our ears and our hearts to the voice of your Son: Be not afraid, for I am with you always. Bless all doctors and nurses, re-searchers and public servants; give us the wisdom to do what is right and the faith to endure this hour, that we might gather once again to praise your name in the heart of your Church, delivered from all distress and confident in your mercy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Something to remember…..

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle. Live simply, Love gener-ously, Care deeply, Speak kindly…..Leave the rest to God.

The Fourth Sunday of Easter May 3, 2020

WHAT DO WE DO WHEN WE CAN’T GO TO MASS? Receiving Holy Communion at Mass The reception of Holy Communion is one of the most intimate moments in the life of every Catholic. The great mystic and Doctor of the Church, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, writes eloquently of the first time she ever received Holy Communion: I knew that I was loved and said, “I love You, and I give myself to You forever.”

But what do we do when we can’t go to Mass? Many of the Saints have recommended that we should make a “Spiritual Communion,” a prayer professing faith in Jesus’ presence in the Eucharist and inviting him to come to come live in our heart.

Our beloved Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI reminds us that even when we cannot go to Mass and cannot receive Holy Com-munion “it is beneficial to cultivate a desire for full union with Christ through the practice of spiritual communion, praised by Pope John Paul II and recommended by saints who were masters of the spiritual life.” (Sacramentum caritatis, no. 55) This practice is also recommended by many of the Saints, including Saint Thomas Aquinas, St. Teresa of Avila, and St. Jean Vian-ney.

How to make a Spiritual Communion Begin by examining your conscience and making a good Act of Contrition. Then pray one of the prayers recommended by the Saints for inviting Christ into your heart. Here is one by Saint Alphonsus Liguori:

My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the most Blessed Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot now receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there, and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

A Spiritual Communion can never fully take the place of receiving Holy Communion at Mass, but in these extraordinary times it can help us to stay close to Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament of his Body and Blood.
