Pastor’s Corner

“On the day of Pentecost when the seven weeks of Easter had come to an

end, Christ's Passover is fulfilled in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit, manifested, given, and communicated as a divine person: of his fullness, Christ, the Lord, pours out the Spirit in abundance” (731). These words from the Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) summarize the events we read about in the Acts of the Apostles today.

There was a “noise like a driving wind” and “tongues of fire which rested on each of them.” The crowds which spoke different languages were able to understand the apostles preaching. The Holy Spirit was poured into the world. It animated the disciples of Jesus to boldly proclaim with courage and power the message of the Gospel. This message is destined for all people.

In the Gospel, we see the principal power of the Holy Spirit is the forgiveness of sin. The CCC reminds us, “Because we are dead or at least wounded through sin, the first effect of the gift of love [the Holy Spirit] is the forgiveness of our sins. The communion of the Holy Spirit in the Church restores to the baptized the divine likeness lost through sin.” The Holy Spirit heals and restores. We experience the effects of the Holy Spirit through the Sacraments and prayerful reflection on the Word of God.

Lastly, St Paul reminds us, “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” If we live in the Spirit, these fruits will be seen in our life. We have received the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Baptism and Confirmation. The Holy Spirit continues God’s transformative work in the world through us. The Holy Spirit is activated by our willingness to cooperate with the inspirations of the Holy Spirit.

Let us pray to the Holy Spirit everyday. “Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.”

Happy Pentecost!! Fr. Keith

Every child is taught the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Glory Be when they are young. But the

Church has a treasury of prayers from her tradition. Each month we would like to highlight a specific prayer and invite you to pray it each day or even to memorize it where it will be secure within

your memory.

Prayer For the month of May Memorare

Remember, O most

gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy

protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left

unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee,

O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of

the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and

answer me.

Amen.

acudido a vuestra protección, implorando tu auxilio, haya

Vos. Madre de Dios, no desechéis

mis súplicas, antes bien, escuchadlas y acogedlas benignamente.

Amén.
