Dear Parishioners, The feast of Pentecost Sunday is a very important feast for us all to pray that the Holy Spirit will inspire us in our daily lives. A good practice would be daily to ask the Holy Spirit to guide us throughout the day. I am very grateful that the Holy Spirit is guiding our Parish at Sunnybank at the moment as we begin the refurbishment and extension of the Church. The Church is completely empty and the builders have already been on-site during this week. Fences will go up around the Church this week. Any asbestos in the Church will be removed this week. The stain glass windows will be removed for refurbishment and good storage. A lot of work has been done, firstly to empty the Church, and to create a warm atmosphere in Paloma as we celebrate Mass. A very big thank you to Karrin our Parish Manager who has supervised and carried out a lot of the work. A big thank you to Les, Bob, Harry and all the Parishioners who have helped. It is different celebrating Mass in Paloma but there is a wonderful atmosphere as we pray together for the new beginnings of our Church and Parish. During the week the builders Herron Coorey were awarded the contract to refurbish the Church. Contracts have been signed and one of the important issues is that the refurbishment and extension of the Church will be completed in November. We should be able to fulfil our hope of celebrating Christmas in a totally new atmosphere in the Church. I am happy to say that the builders tender came in just on budget (mind you the other tenders were up to $1 million more). With the help of our Finance Council and Fundraising Committee, we are very hopeful that the completed works will come underneath our expected budget of $2.8 million. We are relying on our Parish fundraising to realise $500,000 to help minimise our loan repayments into the future. I am very happy and grateful that our fundraising total has almost reached halfway at $224,445 as of this week. Our Lady of Fatima Feast Day was celebrated on Friday night in Our Lady of Fatima Church and a large gathering participated in the procession and Mass. Our Lady of Fatima Parish will celebrate the 50 th anniversary of the Church on Sunday 5 th of June. The Archbishop will be the main celebrant and Parishioners of both our Parishes are invited to attend. Congratulations to the principal of St Thomas More College, Mr Peter Elmore, who has been appointed the principal of Padua College at Kedron. Peter will complete his term as principal at St Thomas More College at the end of this year and he will be sadly missed by the community. If you or anyone you know is interested in becoming a Catholic or knowing more about the Catholic Church, there is an Enquiry Night on Wednesday, June 8 th at 7.00pm. The Enquiry Night will be held at Sunnybank Parish for anyone who would like to come along. Pentecost Sunday: Year C

Introduction: Today’s celebration of Pentecost Sunday brings us to the end of the Easter season for 2016. But there is no end, either in this life or in the next, to our celebration of the Easter mystery of Jesus’ death, resurrection, glorification and pouring out of the Spirit.

First Reading: Acts 2: 1-11 The annual and daily remembrance of the first Pentecost serves to renew us in our Christian life, which is life in the Spirit of Jesus.

Second Reading: Romans 8: 8-17 We are assured of God’s love for us by the gift of the Spirit, who keeps us in mind that Jesus died and rose for us, and so we are dead to sin and risen to the life of grace, the life of the children of God.

Gospel: John 14: 15-16, 23-26 The acid test of the genuineness of our faith is that we keep Jesus’ word. To have the kind of faith that obeys we need the Holy Spirit. Jesus promises us that gift.

YEAR OF MERCY FROM POPE FRANCIS The season of Lent should also be lived more intensely as a privileged moment to celebrate and experience God’s mercy. How many pages of Sacred Scripture are appropriate for meditation during the weeks of Lent to help us rediscover the merciful face of the Father! We can repeat the words of the prophet Micah and make them our own: You, O Lord, are a God who takes away iniquity and pardons sin, who does not hold your anger forever, but are pleased to show mercy. You, Lord, will return to us and have pity on your people. You will trample down our sins and toss them into the depths of the sea (cf. 7: 18-19). The pages of the prophet Isiah can also be meditated upon concretely during this season of prayer, fasting and works of charity: “Is not this the fast that I choose: to loosen the bonds of wickedness, to undo the thongs of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Then shall your light break forth like the dawn, and your healing shall spring up speedily; your righteousness shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your rear guard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry, and he will say, here I am. If you take away from the midst of you the yoke, the pointing of the finger and satisfy the desire of the afflicted, then shall your light rise in the darkness and your gloom be as the noonday. And the Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your desire with good things, and make your bones strong; and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose water fails not” (58: 6-11) [Misericordiae Vultus, No.17]

VOCATION VIEW: Like sun through a stained glass window, the Spirit of God can shine in your life to rouse the best in another. Come, follow Him.
