On Saturday, June 18, 1988, in my home parish church of St. Stanislaus Kostka in Wyandotte, Michigan, by the imposition of Cardinal Edmond Szoka’s hands, the archbishop of Detroit, I was ordained a priest of Jesus Christ. I remember that day as if it was yesterday. It was a very hot and humid day. Imagine that our church did not have air conditioning at that time. All the windows were open and the fans were humming in an attempt to keep the church cool. The open windows also allowed for the sounds from the trains passing by to be heard. Despite the heat and the outside sounds coming in through the open windows, the ordination mass was a beautiful celebration.

For those of you who were in attendance at my Anniversary Mass, you heard Fr. Richard Philiposki tell the story of my priestly ministry over the past 30 years. After my ordination, I started my ministry by substituting for a vacationing priest at St. Stanislaus Parish in Portland, Oregon. Two months later I began my first assignment as Parochial Vicar at St. Laurentius Parish in north Philadelphia. A year later in the fall of 1989 I was moved to Toledo, Ohio to be the Parochial Vicar of St. Adalbert Parish. Two years later, in the fall of 1991, I was moved to Los Angeles to serve as the Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of the Bright Mount Parish. In January of 1993 I was called back to Toledo, Ohio where I became the pastor of St. Adalbert Parish. As I served as pastor, I was also nominated to be the Financial Minister for the North American Province of the Society of Christ Fathers. I served as pastor until 1998 and as Financial Minister until 2001. In 2001 I became the pastor of Five Holy Martyrs Parish in Chicago. During my time in Chicago I became aware of the fact that the Polish community in Las Vegas was looking for a Polish speaking priest to celebrate Polish mass in Polish on a weekly basis. Since the Society of Christ (the Religious Order that Fr. Tom and I belong to) ministers in Polish communities, it was arranged through the Diocese of Las Vegas that a priest from the Society of Christ would be assigned to minister in the diocese. I was assigned to be that priest. In the fall of 2008 I came to Las Vegas and became the Parochial Vicar of St. Anthony of Padua Parish in Centennial Hills. Because St Anthony was a new parish and did not have a church building at the time, the Polish Mass was celebrated each Sunday in the Mother of God Chapel at St Elizabeth Ann Seton parish. After Fr. Romeo’s passing in November 2010, I succeeded him to become the administrator of Our Lady of Las Vegas Parish. In July 2011 Bishop Pepe nominated me as the Pastor of Our Lady of Las Vegas. It has been a wonderful journey over these passed 30 years. I am very grateful for all the wonderful people I have met and hopefully have helped to shepherd during this time. I am thankful to God that He called me to minister as a priest of His Son, Jesus Christ. It is with great joy that I celebrate this milestone anniversary. I would like to thank everyone for participating in my 30th Anniversary celebration last Monday, especially all the priests, parishioners and guests. I felt truly blessed to have so many people there. I thank Julia Dodson, the office staff, and the planning committee for putting together such a beautiful event. I thank the Knights of Columbus, the Our Lady of Las Vegas Women’s Guild, the Polish Community and the Filipino Community. The food they prepared was delicious. Also, thank you to the Polish Dance Group “Piast” and the Filipino dance group “Kahali” for their beautiful dance performances. I would also like to thank Dave Bolkey for serving as the “DJ.” Thank you also for your cards, gifts and good wishes. I thank you most kindly for your generosity and thoughtfulness. Most of all thank you for your prayers. May God bless all of you. Fr. Gerry

RCIA - Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults 2018-2019 FALL ENROLLMENT

Are you thinking about joining the Catholic Church or learning more about it? Ask yourself these questions:

    • Where is your journey of faith leading you? • Are you interested in knowing more about the Catholic Faith? • Do you know someone who might be interested?

If so, come and see what the RCIA process is all about. The Right of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process for non-Catholics who are interested in (or even thinking about) joining the Catholic Church. It’s also for those who have not received all of their Sacraments. Each year our parish begins this process to welcome any and all who are curious about, interested in, or just want to know more about the Christian faith as it is lived and celebrated in the Roman Catholic Tradition.

    ENROLLMENT BEGINS: July 5, 2018

    PROCESS BEGINS: September 12, 2018
