This weekend it is HARVEST FESTIVAL time! The Harvest Festival is the major and most important fundraiser for the school. But most important of all, the Harvest Festival also provides the opportunity for people to work together and just enjoy spending time with each other. I hope that this year’s festival has provided that opportunity to come together as a parish and school community. As I have stated, the Harvest Festival is the main fundraiser for Our Lady of Las Vegas School. Your involvement is very important to us. Thank you for being

involved. We could not do any of this without you. A big thank you especially to Susie Johnson for coordinating the festival and bringing us all together!

As every Catholic knows, the Church celebrates special days that focus on important aspects of our faith. Just as we celebrate birthdays and anniversaries in our family life, our Church family also loves to remember and celebrate. Among the special days we observe throughout the year, are, what we call, the Holy Days of Obligation. These holy days honor the major events regarding our Catholic faith with the obligation of attending mass as a part of their observance. While there are many of these holy days annually, it is up to the local Bishop’s Conference to indicate which of these holy days will be designated as days of obligation in a given diocese. The Holy Days of Obligation that we observe in the Diocese of Las Vegas are: the Assumption of Mary (August 15); the Feast of All Saints (November 1); the Immaculate Conception of Mary (December 8); and the Nativity of the Lord (December 25). The next Holy Day coming up is the Feast of All Saints on Friday, November 1. The following Day, November 2, is the observance of All Souls. All Souls Day is a solemn day of prayer for all the faithful departed. Beginning on All Souls Day, and continuing over nine days, a novena of masses will be offered for the faithful departed. If you would like your loved ones remembered in this special novena of masses, please submit their names to us by means of the special remembrance envelopes in the vestibule of the church. The Church takes the obligation of praying for the faithful departed very seriously. Prayers for the deceased are offered everyday, especially in the celebration of mass. All Souls Day gives us yet a more focused and solemn time to remember all of our deceased loved ones, and to pray for them. Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen. *** Please note that, because the feast of All Saints falls on First Friday this year, we will not have the First Friday Holy Hour in November. Because the Holy Day of Obligation Mass Schedule will be in effect, masses in the evening will be at 6:00pm and 7:30pm in Polish. There will still be the opportunity for First Friday confessions beginning at 6:00pm I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all the prayers, good wishes, flowers, cards and gifts that came my way for my birthday last week. I very much appreciate the fact that so many people offered their good wishes. Please know that you are all remembered in my prayers. Thank you all, and God bless you!

Please be mindful of not shaking others’ hands for the Sign of Peace when you are sick and could pass on germs, especially during flu season. No one is obligated to shake hands at the sign of peace. As an alternative to

shaking hands, you may simply bow to those around you and say, “Peace be with you.” If your fellow parishioners decide upon this option, do not be offended, as it is merely for sanitary concerns and is not personal. You may also want to consider not taking the Blood of Christ while you are sick.

Office of Victim’s Assistance Help is available to you or anyone who has been abused or victimized by someone representing the Roman Catholic Church. Contact the Victim Assistance Coordinator at 702-235-7723.

Please preserve a reverent and prayerful atmosphere in the church by • Turning off the sound of your pager/cell phone • Depositing any food, drinks or chewing gum in the

receptacles provided (Please do not throw gum on the ground or stick it under the pews or planters.)

• Keeping a respectful quiet in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist before and after Mass

• Supervising your children • Waiting in your pew until the priest exits the church Suggested Attire: Appropriate attire for Mass is modest and respectful. Gentlemen and boys should remove their hats. Shorts, muscle-tees, mesh, halter-tops, bare midriffs, sunglasses, or clothing that distracts other persons from worship are not appropriate.
