Jesus connued to pray even aſter His passion, death and resurrecon. He, sing at the right of the Father, now intercedes for us to the Father. We, therefore, are one with Him when we pray. To be a believer and follower of Jesus is to pray. Prayer is liſting our hearts and minds to God and should be the source and center of our life. It’s the core of our relaonal existence with God. Like in any relaonship we need to listen, persevere and never lose heart, but remain confident in God’s ability and power to answer our prayers, thus leading us to eternal life. Jesus reminds us that in order to receive grace, the medium is prayer. We need to persevere like the widow in today’s Gospel to receive grace. It is through prayer that we intensify our inmacy with God. Oſten mes, we have a target and a meline when we come to God in prayer. It should not be this way but instead, seek His will and surrender our hearts and minds to Him in humility, trust and love. May Our Lady of Good Counsel help us to persevere in prayer and increase our faith in her son Jesus. Reverend Father Santhosh Thottankara SS.CC.

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

Persevere in prayer. As believers and followers of Jesus, today’s readings remind us of the importance of prayer. It’s important for us to know that while Jesus

was here on earth, He taught and asked the disciples to pray. Jesus performed many things such as healing, feeding the multitude, preaching and bringing the dead to life. Jesus taught the disciples methods and techniques, or trained them on other activities, but one thing for certain, He taught them to pray. Jesus Himself showed the importance of prayer by His own examples. He set out to the mountains, deserted place or wilderness to pray, and He demanded the same from His disciples. Jesus continued to pray even after His passion, death and resurrection. He, sitting at the right of the Father, now intercedes for us to the Father. We, therefore, are one with Him when we pray. To be a believer and follower of Jesus is to pray. Prayer is lifting our hearts and minds to God and should be the source and center of our life. It’s the core of our relational existence with God. Like in any relationship we need to listen, persevere and never lose heart, but remain confident in God’s ability and power to answer our prayers, thus leading us to eternal life. Jesus reminds us that in order to receive grace, the medium is prayer. We need to persevere like the widow in today’s Gospel to receive grace. It is through prayer that we intensify our intimacy with God. Often times, we have a target and a timeline when we come to God in prayer. It should not be this way but instead, seek His will and surrender our hearts and minds to Him in humility, trust and love. May Our Lady of Good Counsel help us to persevere in prayer and increase our faith in her son Jesus.

Stewardship “I Am” Prayer

My parish is composed of people like me. I help make it what it is. It will be friendly, if I am. It will be holy, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It will do great work, if I work. It will be prayerful, if I pray. It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring others into worship, if I invite and bring them. It will be a parish of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith, of compassion, charity and mercy, if I, who make it what it is, am filled with these same things. Therefore, with the help of God, I now dedicate myself to the task of being all things that I want my parish to be. Amen.

Our Lady of Fatima Statue’s Visitby Arlene Aranita

O n October 11th at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pearl City, several hundred people welcomed the well-traveled statue of the Lady of Fatima, one of six (one for each continent) blessed by the Holy Father in 2017.

In a world rife with violence and a breakdown of the family unit, the mission of the traveling statue to achieve world peace and the holiness of family life is two-fold: consecration and reparation. According to a hand-out which accompanies the statue, consecration “means to dedicate oneself wholly to the love and service of God. Reparation is the debt incurred from God because of our sins that must be expiated to appease God’s wrath.” Reparation can be achieved through a lifestyle of C.A.R.E. That is, to go to Confession at least once a week to be in a state of grace; to take part in Adoration of the Lord each day; to say the Rosary daily to bring world peace; and to partake of the Eucharist at least every Sunday and day of obligation or daily, if possible.
