OUR JOURNEY’ English / Maths/ Art / Science /ICT Tasks This week’s topic is ‘Our Journey’, where you’ll be starting to think about yourself and your time at Blundeston Primary School. That’s a lot of time to think about – and a lot of learning - so you’ll have many memories from across the years. There are tasks here that will focus on your memories and learning, so take your time when thinking of some really special ones that you’ll treasure forever. TASK 1: Change the lyrics of a song – or even write your own! There are three songs (word docs) to look at on the website, and which you can annotate to help you with the changes. These are: ‘History’ by One Direction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kseyyxMewyE , ‘Hall of Fame’ The Script feat. Will.I.Am https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7OVvBilvcs ‘These Days’ feat. Dan Caplen, Jess Glynne & Macklemore https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlXPdOuNU3Q . Think about what you would want your leavers’ song to say. What lyrics could you change to make it personal to Blundeston Year 6? What would you put in/take out? You don’t have to change everything! Remember: the tune will be the same, so you’ll need to think about rhythm, syllables and rhyme. If you don’t particularly like any of these songs, how about having a go at writing your own? You could write your own lyrics to an existing tune that you know well, OR you could compose your own tune as well! The main thing is that your song will be personal to our Year 6 leavers this year. Write your lyrics out neatly, using the ones on the website as a template to help you - lyrics are set out more like poetry, rather than as a block of text – and don’t forget the title of your new leavers’ song. You can decorate your lyrics if you want to, and please upload a photo to Dojo so Miss Sweeney and I can see them! If you are feeling particularly brave, record yourself performing your song and upload to Dojo so we can listen to your performance.

‘OUR JOURNEY’ English / Maths/ Art / Science /ICT Tasks

This week’s topic is ‘Our Journey’, where you’ll be starting to think about yourself and

your time at Blundeston Primary School. That’s a lot of time to think about – and a

lot of learning - so you’ll have many memories from across the years. There are tasks

here that will focus on your memories and learning, so take your time when thinking

of some really special ones that you’ll treasure forever.

TASK 1: Change the lyrics of a song – or even write your own!

There are three songs (word docs) to look at on the website, and which you can

annotate to help you with the changes.

These are: ‘History’ by One Direction https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kseyyxMewyE ,

‘Hall of Fame’ The Script feat. Will.I.Am https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7OVvBilvcs

‘These Days’ feat. Dan Caplen, Jess Glynne & Macklemore

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlXPdOuNU3Q . Think about what you would want your leavers’ song to say. What lyrics could you

change to make it personal to Blundeston Year 6? What would you put in/take out?

You don’t have to change everything! Remember: the tune will be the same, so you’ll

need to think about rhythm, syllables and rhyme. If you don’t particularly like any

of these songs, how about having a go at writing your own? You could write your own

lyrics to an existing tune that you know well, OR you could compose your own tune

as well! The main thing is that your song will be personal to our Year 6 leavers this

year.

Write your lyrics out neatly, using the ones on the website as a template to help you -

lyrics are set out more like poetry, rather than as a block of text – and don’t forget the

title of your new leavers’ song. You can decorate your lyrics if you want to, and please

upload a photo to Dojo so Miss Sweeney and I can see them!

If you are feeling particularly brave, record yourself performing your song and upload

to Dojo so we can listen to your performance.

TASK 2: Plan your dream Residential Trip on a budget of £20,000:

Plan a residential trip for 31 children and 4 staff members – your Year 6 class.

There will be lots to think about! Use the resource sheet on the website to help you.

Where will you go? Will it be this country, or abroad somewhere?

How will you get there? Coach, train, ferry, aeroplane, or more than one mode of

transport? Remember, the further away you go, the more expensive the travel

costs are likely to be.

Where will you stay? Will people share rooms? How many rooms will you need?

How long will you stay there? You’ll need to factor in how many nights you are

staying and make sure there are activities to fill the time.

What will you do there? Are there lots of activities on site – like at Kingswood,

for example – or will you have to travel from where you are staying to the

activities, which will add travelling costs?

Will any of the activities have to be paid for as extra, or do they come as part of

the residential experience? For example, at Kingswood, all the activities for your

time there are included in the price. At Disney World, however, the cost of the

park ticket includes most of the rides, but there may be others you’ll need to pay

for separately; there will also be other attractions/activities that you could visit

in the local area; also, you would be staying in a hotel, either in the Disney park

or further away, each of which will mean paying separately for accommodation.

Once you have looked into the costs and can plan a residential trip for 31 children and

4 adults, you will need to:

produce an itemised costings list to show clearly how the money will be spent - use the

resource sheet on the website if you wish. You will then need to work out how much it

will cost each person to go on the trip. Remember: you have a budget! £20,000 may

sound like a lot of money, but that’s for 35 people. Shop around to find the best place

to go that gives you value for money. Good Luck!

TASK 3: Create/design an activity plan for next week’s socially distanced Y6

afternoon.

Most of you will be coming into school to meet up with your classmates, many of

whom you will not have seen for several months. It won’t be like get-togethers we’ve had

in the past, as we will have to adhere to social distancing and hygiene rules. This

means we will not be able to get too close to our friends, be able to touch them, or to

share objects such as sporting equipment.

Your task is to think about what activities you can do together and to plan the

afternoon. Design and annotate a plan of activities, making sure to give clear

instructions that everyone will need to follow. Be sure to upload these to Dojo, as Miss

Sweeney will be putting together ideas for the afternoon and, you never know, yours

may be just what she’s looking for!

TASK 4: Who is your idol? Why? What period of history are they from? Are they alive

now? What did they do that makes you admire them so much? How do they inspire

you? Are you aiming to follow in their footsteps?

Research your idol - finding out as much about them as you can - and produce a fact-

file/biography on their life. There are resources uploaded to the website, including a

biography features checklist, fact-file examples, and a template if you want to use it.

You don’t have to; you can create the biography in your own way if you wish.

Make sure to include their achievements, say why they are your idol, how they inspire

you and whether you share any similarities. Can you also find an inspirational

quote of theirs to add in?

Please upload your work to Dojo or email it in, so we can see it.

Challenge: the pictures are all of people that I find inspiring. Do you know who they are

and what they’re famous for? Do you know any inspirational things they said?

I wrote to one of these people when I was about your age. I wonder if you can guess

which one! If you’re interested, Dojo me and ask me why I find these people inspiring.

TASK 5: What is your favourite memory from your time at school? What happened?

Who else was there? What was said/done?

Create a comic-strip or storyboard of your memory, including as much detail (and

colour) in the pictures as possible, as well as adding in text and speech. Check out the

resources on our school website pages to help you.

TASK 6: Create a quiz for others at school to take. It should include questions from

across the curriculum and knowledge you have learnt from all your time at

Blundeston. Think about the topics you have covered, the science you have learnt, the

religions we’ve talked about in RE, the places you’ve discovered in Geography, the

grammar rules you’ve spent so long practising in English, all the maths methods and

problem-solving you’ve taken part in. You have learnt so much over the years!

Use all of this knowledge to create a Quiz that can challenge others.

You could try it out at home, before sending it in to school for us to have a look at.

I wonder if you can ask a question we don’t know the answer to.

Maths -- 01/07/20 – 07/07/20

This week, you will be concentrating on honing your Fraction skills. Reminder videos will be uploaded to Dojo, just in case you have forgotten what to do. There may be several videos, as you will be finding fractions of amounts, finding common denominators and multiplying/ dividing fractions. As usual, there will be a selection of fraction sheets uploaded to our website, giving you the

chance to get lots of practice. You don’t have to do them all – unless you really want to – but remember, the more you do, the better you will get. Your times tables knowledge will be key! There will also be a range of problem-solving questions that will really get you thinking and using your fraction skills. Look out for the Fractions Rules Sheet on the website! Don’t forget to check out Purple Mash for more activities.

REMEMBER: Excellent knowledge of

your tables is a key skill to being successful at fractions. Don’t forget to practise every day!

If you want something else to do, try more

activities in your Smarties Booklet.

How about challenging a parent or older sibling to a

multiplication contest. Are they as quick as you with their tables?

There is also a maths activity included in the main tasks: planning your dream residential trip on a budget.

BBC Bitesize Daily has proven very helpful over the last few weeks and includes a wide range of topics for you to choose from https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/dailylessons

Science

Terrific Science DIY

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/terrific-scientific/KS2/zr63d6f

This link has some amazing – and fun – science

investigations for you to do at home.

In school, we will be carrying out the

Marshmallow Catapult Investigation, but you

can choose any of the others to have a go at,

if you prefer, or try more than one!

What is important, is that you take recordings

of any data you produce – such as distances,

for example – and evaluate your investigation,

which should include supporting diagrams.

You could even have a competition with other

members of your family.

Good Luck!

Purple Mash 2Dos

Keep up with the challenges I’ve set on purple mash! Remember: you can look for other games and activities to do

on Purple Mash. Just search for what you want.

Make sure to save your work so I can have a look at it.

Just drop me a Dojo to let me know, in case I miss it!

Become an Illustrator

Now that you’ve written your 500 word story – and hopefully sent it off – it’s time to design an illustration to go with it. Imagine your story will be published. It needs a picture. Think carefully about an image to complement your 500 words. This could be in pencil, crayon, charcoal, paint – it’s up to you! Alternatively, you can design a new book cover for one of your favourite books or stories. Think about the part of the story you think will be most appealing.

Continuous

Reading: You should read at home as often as you can, even if it’s: a blog, a magazine, an article, online information

(research), comics, a newspaper, game instructions, or sharing a book with a younger sibling; it doesn’t always have

to be books. However, if you do read a book, you should still access accelerated reader in order to take your

quizzes – you’ll need this link https://ukhosted87.renlearn.co.uk/5452865/ There are also many reading comprehension activities on www.twinkl.co.uk which can be accessed and downloaded.

Spelling. Your spellings will be from the 3/4 & 5/6 spelling lists, which are on the website. Regular practice of

these – even just once a week- will really help. Choose 10 at a time, write them out, then, when you’re ready, test

yourself (or get someone else to). Also, try to use these words in conversation, or in your writing activities, so they

become part of your everyday vocabulary. There are a range of activities to help with spelling practice; use

https://www.twinkl.co.uk/resource/fun-spelling-activities-t2-e-3112 for some good ideas. Alternatively, there are

lots of spelling resources – games, dictation exercises and printable sheets - on Purple Mash; just search ‘spelling’

and have a browse around.

Real life links and skills: Where you can, try to recognise where you’re using maths and science in real-life

action, for example: money, time, measuring, problem-solving, enquiry, research and observation. You could create a

diary/notebook of these, making note of the maths and science you have used, or seen, in action. For

example: if you have made a cake, what maths did you use? Is there a relationship between the

measurements of different ingredients? Are fractions at work? Doubles/halves/ratios? What scientific

processes are happening in the mixing and baking of the cake? Can you name those processes and explain

exactly what is happening? If not, maybe you could research it.

Try to help around the house, too. Can you: take the rubbish out, make the beds, help with the washing/washing

up/dishwasher, set the table, keep your own things/bedroom tidy, or cut the grass?

Times Tables: Practise! Practise! Practise! Regularly access TimesTableRockStarz; practise your tables in whichever

way you find best, such as learning through songs, playing games, writing your tables out, having people test you. Multiplication

tables are SO important – knowing them off-by-heart will help you in every other area of maths – so your time at home is ideal

for acquiring this skill before you go on to Year 7.

Continue to use the links in the first bank for a wide range of resources across the curriculum. Check in on Purple Mash to see what 2Dos have been set
