Leader’s Voice

The difference between ordinary and extra-ordinary is the small extra.

Once a great violinist was asked about the reason behind his success. He replied that it was

because of every day improvement with consistent practice. My audience can identify the

drop in performance if I don’t practice for a month, my wife can identify the drop in performance

it I don’t practice for a week and I can identify the drop in performance if I don’t practice for a

day.

Compete with yourself

We need to improve ourselves rather than compare ourselves with others. Unfortunately we

tend to teach even our children to compare and compete. This generates jealousy, envy and

also complexes. No one in this world can be the master of all trades. We need to improve

ourselves, which is called as competition.

The commitment level determines our competence level. Thomas Alva Edison did 5000

experiments to know about the electric bulb. He was competing with himself but with full

confidence in his ability. When we compete with ourselves we must always believe that we

can. We need to think to know our potential like a free bird. Knowledge and Intelligence are like

muscles which become stale if not used regularly.

We must realise that “a journey of thousand miles begins with a single step”.

It is not surprising how clearly I remember walking into Christ Nagar, painted in blue 11 years

back; anyone would, for the magnificent infrastructure. From there I have seen Christ Nagar

grow before my eyes and I gladly realise that I too have grown with my school. Every bit of my

experience at CNSSS is one which I can remember with a wide smile on my face. This is truly

because of all my teachers and the Principals who guided me and their inspiring words and

endearing approach which would last with me till the end.

Besides the academic activities, I have enjoyed all other extracurricular activities that include

arts fest, science and language fests, club activities, food fests, stage programmes and so

on. Apart from all these activities, what pops into my mind first is, our school’s athletics team

and the numerous sports meets I have participated as a Christ Nagarian. It taught me what

team spirit is and who a sportsman is. I do not know how to thank all my physical education

teachers for all the cherished memories they gave me.

This article isn’t complete without thanking my first teachers - my parents and my sister who is

also a proud Christ Nagarian who brought several laurels to the school. I also thank the rest of

my family and my friends without whom Christ Nagar school memories are incomplete.

Above all I thank God Almighty for guiding me through the thick and thin.

God bless Christ Nagar, my Alma Mater!

The concluding ceremony of scintilla - The South Zone Sahodaya Youth Festival

hosted by our school in 2015, instilled in me the desire to win the title of Sahithya

Prathibha. Just before my performance, as I was wandering backstage, I noticed a

beautiful shield that caught my attention carrying the title that fascinated me - ‘the

Sahithya Prathibha Award.’ I imagined how great it would be to win that award!

AND I DID IT to my own disbelief I felt extremely happy receiving the award and all the

more joyous hearing them announce, “Category 2 Sahithya Prathibha Award goes to

Vyshnavi Reghunath of Christ Nagar, Thiruvallam. I felt happy that I did my school

proud. I attribute my success to several people - to my beloved parents for the right

selection of poems and preparation of scripts for my competitions, to my dear

teachers for their timely support and guidance especially to dear Jayasree mam and

to our dear Academic Co-ordinator Alex Sir for his constant motivation. This

Academic Year has been all the more special and exciting, as I kissed my first ever

State CBSE Kalotsav Festival trophy which was another milesone in my student life. I

strongly believe in Paulo Coelho’s word “When you want something, all the universe

conspires in helping you to acheive it”.

My experience asDrum Major

Gobind Gopakumar

8 E

When I became the Drum Major of the Christ Nagar Band Troup, I had a feeling

of great pride and authority. But it slowly changed to a feeling of responsibility

after some time when the Drum Major stave was handed over to me by

respected Principal Fr Mathew Arekalam CMI. I felt that I was a leader with the

responsibility of leading a great team.

All along my journey till now - that is two years of my captaincy, I used to

experience a bit of tension till I finished my practices. After each program, I

would ask my Band Master Denny Sir and my fellow band members what they

thought about my performance and if I needed to change in anyway. This

helped me alot. Let me confess truthfully that being a Drum Major of such a

great team was a wonderful previlege for me.

Never let success go to your head, Never let failure go to your heart.

thI, am Karthik Ram, a student of CBSE school, studying in the 7 grade. Since my

kindergarten years, I have been learning swimming from the Trivandrum Aquatic

Centre. I am also being coached by Mr Madhusoodhan Nair of the Sports Authority

of India in Kariavattom. I am a recipient of several prizes in swimming and have

reached the National level. I have had the opportunity to participate in national at

two instances. I aspire and dream to participate and represent India in the Olympics

and bring laurel to the country. My achievements are a result of the encouragement

of my Principal, teachers, family and friends, who have prayed and inspired me

always. I take this opportunity to request them to bless and pray for me in the future

too and help me achieve my dreams.

Leading Away...

Athul M S9 C

NCC cadet was formed with a vision of youth development by bringing moral

values such as duty towards nation, dedication, discipline in the minds of

youth.

We, the youth think that discipline is a boring way of living and so we tend to

break the rules. But what we don’t realize is the fact the discipline trains us for

an independent life in future. Discipline helps us to understand our

opportunities, duties and responsibilities. Camps are a major part of NCC

experience. Camps are the best way to socialize, make new friends, cherish

old memories. Camps teach us to be independent by making us stay out of the

comfort zone, and to undertake adventures.

I would like to conclude that NCC taught me to be independent, disciplined and

it gave me an experience that I will remember forever.

The title ‘monitor’ is a matter of big pride for any student of the school and with

the title comes huge responsibilities. These can only be shouldered by a

student who has qualities of punctuality, courage, honesty and leadership.

We the students are really blessed to have teachers like Maya ma’am who

sees to it that we are kept motivated all through our tenure as a monitor.

In a tenure of one year my fellow monitors and I were given ample and more

opportunities to showcase our leadership qualities both on regular basis and

on prestigious occasions. This title has brought about a great change in me,

making me more disciplined, punctual and responsible. I was amazed to see

that I could handle multiple tasks at one time. I thank the Principal and my

Physical Education teacher Ms Maya Mathew for having given the

oppurtunity to serve the school.

A leader is not one who walks ahead and shows you the way

but one who walks beside you holding your hand. To get an

oppurtunity to be a leader is a great previlege which does not

come to all. We were among those previleged who got the

opportunity and were chosen as volunteers in our school. This

opportunity has boosted our morale, made us confident and

instilled in us a sense of responsibility. An encouragement to

do the daring and to analyse the situation before acting. We

are convinced that our experiences will help us to play the part

of a good samaritan in later life. We thank our Principal and

teachers who chose us as volunteers and who brought out the

leadership qualities in us.

No beauty shines brighter than of a good heart.

A true mettle of a team is tested when it is able to respond to the challenges the community throw up and turn them into an advantage. We have planned several initiatives and plans that would bear fruit in the coming year. A tightening of process has enabled us to become a learner and more agile than ever before, and an ongoing focus on continuous improvement would help us to achieve even greater success through innovative ideas.

I would like to thank our most beloved Principal Fr Mathews Chackalackal CMI, for the initiation and implementation of the Mathrubhumi - VKC endeavour ‘NANMA’ to our community. The help and support given by Fr Chacko Puthukulam CMI our Financial Administrator, is the backbone of our project. We the team of Nanma, endeavour for transparency and accountability in our work, always aligned to our mission of helping the poorest of the poor.

We feel happy to share with you that our funding through the ‘Joy of Giving’ and Food Fest crossed the expected level. We are grateful that the student / parent community are continuing to repose their trust in us.

I would like to thank all those around us who helped to make each of our dreams come true and happy to analize that the student community is inculcating positive attitude towards the poor and the needy.

After my matriculation, I came here to Trivandrum, to take the next

step in my career. It was a bit sad leaving Mumbai with those joyful

memories I had about the city and about the school I left behind. But,

sad to say, life is all about moving on.

Honestly, in the beginning, I hardly knew Malayalam and I thought

that everyone would make fun of me behind my back. I was

beginning to feel homesick. Slowly, I got used to it and I made a lot of

friends and I became as comfortable as anyone else in the class.

Christ Nagar gave me a great exposure and amazing experience in

the two years.

Teachers, although strict, were very supportive in my academic

pursuits. Some of my friends were kind enough to teach me

Malayalam and never after that did I feel homesick or lonely.

The valley of sweet white flowers,

Filled with snow during winter

A harmonious life of Peace

Sweet white flowers turned red by blood.

A girl fought against it

Her weapon was her pen.

They shot her with gun.

But her pen didn’t shrug.

In the battle of pen and gun.

Pen won the victory

Once again proving that

Pen is mightier than the gun

The valley once again bloomed.

With whiteness of peace.

All my classmates

ANOSTALGIA

BUFF

The whole forest was filled with joy, it was ONAM!

The competition to make lovely floral carpets was

on the following day. Minnu and Chittu Rabbit and

Kichu Deer started looking for flowers. They soon

gathered a basketful. All this time, lazy Mittu

Rabbit stayed in his burrow.

The other rabbits said: “Tomorrow we will make a

nice floral carpet with these flowers. For the time

being, let’s store them in Minnu’s burrow”. They

went back to their homes Minu slowly fell asleep.

“This is my chance! “Mittu thought. Mittu crept

quietly into Minn’s burrow and stole the flower

basket. “Tomorrow I’ll win the prize,” he said

happily.

Mittu kept the flower basket in a corner of his

house before he slept.

In the morning, when Mittu was about to leave his

home with the basket of flowers, he saw Minnu,

Chittu and Kichu standing in front of his burrow

smiling.

“You thief, did you think no one would know what

you did”? They asked. Mittu hung his head in

shame.

Do you know how the others knew what Mittu had

done? Flowers were strewn all along the way from

Minnu’s burrow to Mittu’s burrow. Mittu had failed

to notice that the flowers that fell from the basket

as he ran away were from Minnu’s burrow!

Mittu felt very sorry for his action, and he begged

everyone to forgive him.

“Dear friends, I made a mistake! I promise I’ll not

repeat it,” he said. All of them realised how sad

Mittu was, and so they forgave him.

Later, they all enjoyed the Onam celebrations

together.

A couple of months ago my mother, brother

and I were on our way to a relative’s house.

On the way we walked through a slum area.

We noticed a lot of people there living in

miserable conditions, many of them starving

and poorly clad.

On the wayside we saw a boy bitterly crying.

Slowly we walked towards him and asked the

reason for his crying. He told us that his

mother was sick and his father had left them

forever. We felt sorry for the boy I told Amma

to buy some food for him. Amma bought

some packed food from the nearby hotel and

gave. He began to eat it avidly. We also gave

some toffees and biscuits from what we had

carried in our bags. After that incident I often

thanked God for the kind of life He gave me.

Once upon a time there were four friends. They

were Vicky, Peter, Tom and Fred. Vicky and Peter

were best friends. One day they went cycling in the

nearby forest. On the way they found a hole in the

ground. Vicky didn’t notice the hole and he fell

down in it and began to cry for help. Tom and Fred

were coming on and they heard Vicky’s cries.

They looked in the hole and Vicky asked them to

help him. They refused to help saying that they

didn’t have enough strength to pull him out. Then

Peter came on. He also heared the cries from the

hole and looked into the hole. Vicky requested him

for help. Without a hesitation, Peter tried to pull

him out and succeeded. Vicky and Peter remained

the best of friends thereafter.

“My memories of Christ Nagar” is an honest account of the wonderful

moments I experienced here. I joined Christ Nagar as a fresher in

standard XI for the academic year 2016-2017. The first day at school is

still fresh in my mind. I still remember the mixed emotions I went through -

the burden of responsibility on my shoulders, the fear of being at a totally

unfamiliar place, the happiness of reaching standard XI, missing my old

buddies in my previous school... all this took me to the verge of bursting

into tears.

I take this opportunity to thank my wonderful teachers, who discovered

my hidden talents, motivated me and made the best out me. Soon I

became friends with almost all the students in standard XI. I had shed my

tears on the shoulder of my friends... no, I should call them my family and

shared my happiness with them. We always used to fight for each other’s

food. I got to know what I am capable of and how I should use it. I

consulted some of the best seniors in the school. Our class was the

craziest, the funniest and at the same time the most caring class in

standard XI in all respects. Now that I am in standard XII, it’s time for me

to part with Christ Nagar. I just wish that my journey at Christ Nagar would

extend for some more time. Every day, every class, every moment I

spent in Christ Nagar was something that I can never forget. I will cherish

for the rest of my life. I am not yet ready to leave Christ Nagar but still I

have to... Life has to go on... Even though I am leaving Christ Nagar, a

part of me will still remain here. It was this wonderful institution which

recognised my talent and helped me to mould myself into a sincere and

responsible person. Christ Nagar taught me great lessons and it will

forever remain a part of my life.

The sun and the wind were friends. But the wind used to

quarrel with the sun.

Once there was a beautiful contest between the sun and

the wind. It was to see which one of the two was stronger

than the other. The wind was very proud of itself and said:

“Even the mighty, cloud before me knows that I can drive

them away! “The wind laughed at the sun and praised

itself. But the strong sun didn’t speak any word and was

ready for the contest.

Soon they saw a man who was wearing a coat. The sun

said “Let us see who makes the man to take off his coat.

“It is very simple”, the wind said and it blew harder and

harder. But the man, Instead of removing his coat,

wrapped it more and more. So, the wind failed. Now it was

the turn of the sun to prove its strength. It began to shine.

It became hotter and hotter, fiercer and fiercer. Ultimately,

the man felt obliged to remove the coat. The wind lost and

the sun won.

education

The purposeof

We go to school to get educated. Education is

more than knowledge. Gaining knowledge is

one of the aims of education. Character

formation is another important purpose.

Education also will make one courageous. If

one is not powerful, he cannot do much in life.

Education will make you understand our

social responsibilities.

Proper education doesn’t make anyone

proud. Some people become proud, as they

become educated. It is a wrong sign. A really

educated person will be always humble. He

will always try to help others.

Education is for life. You may have all the

knowledge in the world. But, if you don’t know

how to live, all your knowledge is useless. So

learn to live, everything, else will follow.

People say friends are made in

houses. And they come in our life.

But met a friend like you and made

my life a ‘HEAVEN’.

True friends are like diamonds,

precious but rare.

False friends are like autumn leaves

found every where.

A friends gives hope when life is low.

A friend is a place where you can go.

A friend is honest a friend is true.

A friend is precious.

A friend is ‘YOU’.

When all seap become dry, when all

birds leave the sky,

when all false friends say good bye,

I will be there always to tell you ‘HAI’.

My life is nothing without you.

Mother’s Love is the precious thing in the whole world. It cannot be replaced by

anything else and anyone else cannot give us such a love like mother. Our

father, our friend or anyone else cannot replace mother. From our birth until we

stay with our mother, we experience this valuable and enjoyable love. A person

who lives without getting mother’s love will not find happiness in his / her life. And

some unlucky children will not experience this love from their birth and will suffer

a lot in living. A person who experience this love forever will reach a successful

place in the future. Some children will not experience this love even if their

mother is alive. These mothers does not look after their children and everytime

scold for silly matters. For not having freedom at home the child might commit

suicide or some will leave their home forever. So, every mother and every child

should notice that without mother’s love no one, can live an enjoyable life. A

person who is not experiencing this love will get hurt while thinking about it.

I have a fantastic grandmother. I love her very much and she loves me very much too. She is working as a chef. She makes many dishes such as chicken, mutten, beaf etc. Whatever she makes turns out to be delicious. She tells me interesting stories especially before I sleep. I hear her stories and fall asleep. I can’t think of a time without my grandmother.

Our world is always changing,

constantly rearranging.

From ocean depths to maintain peaks,

mother nature moves and speaks.

While telling stories of our past,

She tries to teach us how to last.

Mankind, so smart, sometimes blind,

leaves common sense for behind.

We’re moving fast and living large,

forgetting mother natures in charge.

Amazed when she rings our bell,

sending us through living bell.

She can twist our steel and shake the ground.

If over come by anger, she knews no bounds.

Yet some who speak on her behalf,

I fear, only seek the golden calf.

It’s true we must treat her right,

or we will incur a deadly plight.

We must recycle what we use,

quick, there is no excuse.

Start, recycling, pickup the pace,

this will save the human race.

Treat her with distinction

or we will face extinction.

Dave : Jessica, I want to ask you something. One day Fr Principal spoke about some Va-cen. I am not sure if I

heard the word right, what do you think is the word?

Jessica : The word is Vicennial.

Dave : I got it, but what does it mean?

Jessica : It means 20 years of something.

Dave : Something? What is that something Fr was talking about?

Jessica : Weren’t you listening to the Principal when he was speaking?

Dave : I was, but some boys sitting next to me were talking loudly and I couldn’t hear the Principal clearly.

Jessica : The girls were all quiet. So I had no problem. The Principal was clearly saying that our school is in the

20th year of functioning. He said that it is a big event and we should have a full year celebration.

Dave : Do you mean to say that the celebration is not yet over?

Jessica : Yes, it is not over. We started with some programmes and some of them are still going on, for example

the NANMA.

Dave : Oh, yes, I was just going to ask you about that. What is it all about? I only know that I paid some money

for NANMA.

Jessica : I’ll explain. In simple words, NANMA means doing good to others - helping people who are in serious

problems in life.

Dave : But they have their parents, don’t they?

Jessica : Dave, you are mistaken. You and I are born lucky. We have good parents; our G’pa and G’ma, our

uncles and aunts who help us in all our needs. We go to a good school like Christ Nagar where we have

the best of things. It is very different with many other children.

Dave : Can you explain?

Jessica : Many children living around us have not even a home, no parents, no one to take care of them, no food

to eat, no proper clothes to wear.......

Dave : Wait a minute please. If these children have no home, where do they live?

Jessica : Many such children roam around in the street begging for food and sleeping on the roadside in the

night.

Dave : I feel so sorry for them.

Jessica : Yes, our school too is very sorry for them and wants to help them. That is why we have the NANMA

project in the school. We try to help them with money and other things.

Dave : It’s a wonderful work we are doing for them in the school, isn’t it?

Jessica : Yes, Dave. This is what God wants us to do. He wants us to share with them from what He has given us.

It is our duty. Don’t you think?

Dave : Ofcourse, we must help them. Thank you, Jessica for all the information.

Jessica : You are welcome.

me, taught me, dressed me up, helped me, fought for me,

corrected me, kissed me, but most importantly loved me

unconditionally.

These words are not enough for me to describe how important

my mother is to me. She is simply wonderful! MotherMother
