will be poured next week. Unfortunately, due to the hold

Awarding Years of Service Certificates

An organisation can only excel with the support and

commitment of its staff. Acknowledging a job well done

with a sincere “thank you” might be a simple act, but it

is important to show we recognise and care for our

staff.

When staff have dedicated years of service to an

organisation, this should be more formally recognised.

This is why the department issues Years of Service

certificates These are awarded by the Department to

acknowledge 20, 30, 40 and 50 years of service. All are

wonderful achievements – and an opportunity to thank

staff for their dedication to the work we do to support

students and communities.

Last week I had the privilege of presenting some of our

fantastic staff members with their Years of Service

certificates. Congratulations to the following team

members. I know you will join me in acknowledging just

what these staff members do to support the students

and community at our school.

Opportunity Class Placement The Opportunity Class Placement Test for those students in year 4 interested in seeking placement in the OC for 2021 has been delayed until later in the year. This decision has been taken in response to the current social distancing measures in place to slow the spread of COVID-19. More than 12,000 applications are received each year for opportunity class placements commencing at the start of Year 5 the following school year. There are 76 public schools in NSW with opportunity classes and our school is one of these. As part of the application process, eligible Year 4 students are required to sit a test in a supervised environment. Social distancing guidelines currently in place make it difficult to implement a large-scale assessment. The department is committed to the continued education of all students across NSW, including advanced learning programs for high potential and gifted students. The opportunity class placement process will still go ahead in 2020. The department continues to work closely with NSW Health to ensure people have access to the latest advice on how to keep staff, children, students and community safe. Revised dates for applications and tests will be announced as soon as they are confirmed. We ask parents to please continue to monitor the opportunity classes page. Winter Uniform

A reminder for next week when students return to

school one day a week (during Phase 1 of the

managed return to school), students need to be

wearing their winter uniform. A message from Judy in

the uniform shop regarding opening hours is in this

newsletter.

Kindergarten 2021

Kindergarten enrolment packs are in the process of

being organised ready to be sent out to all registered

families at the end of the week.

If you have a child who is starting school in 2021 and

you are currently living in our local intake area please

contact Lisa Hauville on 63723466 or email

[email protected] to arrange for

an enrolment pack to be sent out. Enrolment packs are

due to be returned to the school by Friday 3rd

July.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of mothers, grand mothers and those special women in our community a very special Mother’s Day this Sunday. I hope you have a wonderful day and are spoilt just that little bit more than usual on Sunday!! Michelle Neaverson-Smith

Premier's Reading Challenge We now have 6 students who have completed the PRC! This is amazing as we still have 4 months before the end of the challenge on Friday, August 28 - plenty of time to complete! In light of recent events, the challenge rules have slightly changed. You can find all of the information on the link at the bottom of this post, however, the two main changes are: 1. Students are now able to enter 10 choice books (instead of the normal 5); and 2. Any level K-6 are able to include books read as part of collaborative reading with teachers or parents/carers, either in person or online. Remember, K-2 must read 30 books, 3-4 must read 20 books and 5-6 must read 20 books. If your child hasn't started and would like to, I am happy to leave a recording sheet for you at the office, email you one to print off, or you can just keep a written record of the name of the book and the author to return to myself to enter. If you're unsure as to what books are included, I'm happy to help your child out with borrowing remotely, or the link at the bottom of the post will also have links to book list searches. If you have any questions, or need a PRC recording sheet, I am more than happy to answer emails, or talk to you over the phone. Happy Reading! [email protected] CVPS library: (02) 6372 3466

P&C News

The P&C are very pleased to let you know that the Mother’s Day stall will still run in 2020! Although it will be a post Mother’s Day stall. We have a lovely variety of gifts available for purchase this year, most being $5 each, with a limited number of $10 gifts. We will clearly need to run things a little differently this year though, so: • No notes will be going home regarding the Mother’s Day stall in 2020 • The stall will run everyday next week from Monday 11.5.20 to Thursday 14.5.20 • But, your child/children will shop for gifts ON THEIR ALLOCATED SCHOOL DAY ONLY (this is the day allocated by the school in compliance with Phase 1). • Money will need to be paid at the time of purchase (please DO NOT prepay at the office). • Please, where possible, send your child/children with the correct money for the amount of gifts they wish to purchase - you can certainly write the number of gifts on a piece of paper for the P&C volunteers to read. If you head to the CVPS P&C Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/cvpspandcassociation/ you can get a glimpse of some of the gifts available. The kids always love this fundraiser & we’re so happy to be able to make it happen for them! CVPS P&C

CVPS Frequently Asked Questions

What will learning look like from Week 3?

Class work will continue to be uploaded onto Google Classroom for students to complete during the week while they are learning remotely for the other four days. On the day your child is rostered to attend, it will be school as normal.

When students attend school on this day, there are social distancing protocols that will be implemented. Therefore, for all classes, students will spend some of the day with their class teacher and other parts of the day with another teacher on their year level. We will need to divide students in attendance into minimal sized groups to ensure that protocols around group sizes are maintained.

Students will complete an explicit literacy, numeracy and additional Key Learning Area on their rostered day. School work will be completed in school work books and left at school (just like a usual school day).

If it is not a rostered day at school for your child, they simply continue their online learning through Google Classroom.

This Phase (1) of learning has not been given a set amount of time, so this arrangement is to continue after Week 3 until further notice from the NSW State Government to move into Phase 2. So as an example, if the same phase continued into Week 4, students would attend 1 day per week as per the roster system used in Week 3.

Do I have to send my child if I want them to continue to self-isolate?

No, you do not have to take up this opportunity at this stage. We will continue to support all of our students and their families as best we can across all scenarios.

Please let your child’s teacher or the school office know if your child will be learning at home for the full week. Note: There will be a continued expectation that your child is learning at home each day. If your child is not completing any of the home learning that is set, you will be contacted by your child’s teacher and it will be “unexplained” leave.

How will CVPS encourage social

distancing at school?

We will be limiting class sizes to 10—15

students to ensure we can maintain the 1.5m

distance whilst in class.

In an effort to support social distancing, we are

asking that NO PARENTS come into the school

(beyond the pick up of work out the front of the

Admin Block). It is extremely important that we

maintain the safety of the adults within our

school.

How will CVPS support good hygiene?

Bubblers will be closed and students are asked to bring refillable drink bottles instead.

Windows to be open as much as possible.

Students are encouraged to bring their own pencil case to school and take it home with them each day.

Students will continue to be given regular reminders about good hygiene around handwashing techniques and social distancing.

Our school has a supply of hand soap and sanitiser both in classrooms and in the toilet, which are topped up throughout the day.

The professional cleaners that work within our school have put in placed enhanced cleaning measures. This includes significantly more cleaning time each day to ensure that high touch surfaces are thoroughly cleaned.

Please do not send an unwell child to school. Please be understanding that in this health pandemic, we are instructed to assume minor illness as an indicator of major illness and will therefore make immediate contact with parents/carers if a student displays any symptoms of illness.

Any students that come to school unwell will be sent

home immediately.

How can parents help their children when learning at home?

I would like to reassure families that we are currently not ‘home schooling’, but are moving your child’s learning to a new platform. The teacher is still designing your child’s learning.

The parent’s role is to support their child as they navigate this new form of learning. This can be done by:

Establishing routines and expectations.

Setting a space for your child to work in.

Monitoring communication from teachers.

Beginning and ending each day with a check in on how their learning went.

Encouraging them to do physical activity and/or exercise.

Checking in with them regularly to see how they are managing the stress of the current situation and monitoring their emotional wellbeing.

Contacting their teacher if they are having trouble with any of the work so that is can be adjusted.

My child is struggling with all that is going on right now and it looks like this will be going on for a while. Where can I get them more help with their emotional wellbeing?

The classroom teacher can discuss your child with you over the phone. Our School Counsellor is also available to have a chat to them on their rostered day at school (Wednesday/Thursday). Just make contact with your child’s teacher to organise this. Also, here are a list of free support services that either you or your child can access directly from home:

Kids Helpline on 1800 55 1800, or at https://kidshelpline.com.au/ (24/7)

Reachout at https://au.reachout.com/

Headspace on 1800 650 890 or

Page 5: Our Focus At CVPS we are respectful by wearing our winter … · 2020-05-05 · mothers, grand mothers and those special women in our community a very special Mother’s Day this

How is attendance monitored?

Students working from home will automatically continue to be placed on “Flexible Leave”. This is considered “present” at school.

Students that are not completing any learning at home after being contacted by their teacher will be changed to be marked as “Unexplained”. If your child is unwell on their rostered day, please let the office know they are away sick so they can be marked as being on “Sick Leave”. It is better to be safe during this time.

How do I get in touch with staff?

Please continue to use Class Dojo as the primary way to get in contact with your child ’s class teacher as this will ensure that they get the message whether they are on or off site. If you would like them to call you, just send them a Class Dojo message requesting a call.

The office will still be open every day so families can also call the office if they have an administrative question.

When will schools move to Phase 2?

Phase 2 is when we will be directed to have students return to school 2-3 days per week, again on a roster system. This is decided upon at a state level and will be announced by the Premier.

Pick-ups and Drop offs?

To support the safety of our staff, parents are asked not to come onto the school site at pick-up and drop-off time. Daily pick-up and drop-off points will be from Madeira Road and also the back gate, supervised by teaching staff. The same process will remain in the afternoon. Parents are asked to remain with their cars during this process or outside the school fence. Please ensure that your child knows where your will be collecting them in the afternoon. Students who walk to school will continue this as normal.

Anything else I should know?

Students will still be required to wear their winter uniform at school. Feel free to let them wear these at home too, if you would like to keep them in their learning routine.

Phase 1 begins 11th May
