Priest Workshop: Sr. Maureen Colleary, FSPBe My Witness: Formation for the New Evangelization

Sr. Maureen Colleary, FSP, is a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Peace of Haverstraw, New York. Sr. Maureen joined RENEW in 1997 and currently serves as Program Manager. Sr. Maureen contributed to the development of training resources that are a part of the Be My Witness process. Her international work has included serving parishes and dioceses in Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America. She holds the degree of Master of Arts in Pastoral Ministry and Bereavement from Seton Hall University. Before coming to RENEW, she ministered as founding Director of Development for her Franciscan congregation, taught on both the primary and secondary levels and was a member of the Archdiocese of New York Parish Mission Team.

Be My Witness draws its inspiration from The Joy of the Gospel, the landmark document written by Pope Francis. Be My Witness helps parish leaders view everything their parish does through the lens of evangelization and look at moving the culture of the parish from one of maintenance to one of mission. The process works by building an ever-widening circle of commitment in two powerful ways:

• Engaging parish sta, leaders, and pastoral councils to lead change• Engaging and forming parishioners and their families as missionary disciples.

Be My Witness invites all parishioners to become partners in this evangelizing mission by cultivating parish small groups—a proven way to encounter Christ, reawaken faith, and motivate missionary outreach. During the presentation there will be time for small- group discussion. A sample of the Be My Witness Assessment on Welcome Matters will be shared.

Workshop C: Pedro RubalcavaWorkshop title: “Nurturing the Spirit of Encounter in the Shared Parish”The Sunday Eucharist is the encounter par excellence with the Risen Christ in Sacrament and Word. Many of our parishes are shared parishes, in which we have a diversity of cultures and languages with families and children who experience dierent cultures at home and their communities. Come and nd out how to create and nurture experiences of encounter at home that naturally lead us to welcome and belonging at the parish celebration of the Eucharist.

Pedro Rubalcava is a nationally known bilingual/bicultural clinician, composer, and performer with expertise in various musical styles. He has been directing liturgical music groups for more than 40 years. For the past 33 years, he has been working in professional pastoral ministry in various areas, including liturgy and music, evangeli-zation, youth and young adult ministry, catechetical ministry and RCIA. He resides in Damascus, Oregon, with his wife Kristin.

Workshop A: Fr. Leo PatalinghugBecoming Effective Theologians for Your Parish in the Modern World

Fr. Leo Patalinghug is a priest member of a community of consecrated life called Voluntas Dei. He founded “Grace Before Meals,” an apostolate to strengthen families around the dinner table. He is an internationally renowned speaker, author, TV host of “Savoring Our Faith” on EWTN, radio co-host of “Entertaining Truth,” and contributor to various publications on theological and cultural connections. He has appeared on The Food Network, where he defeated a famous chef on “Throw Down! with Bobby Flay.” Father Leo uses food, faith and fun in hopes on bringing people closer together, one meal at a time.

Workshop B: Sarah Hart Workshop title: "In Every Age: Singing and Praying with the Intergenerational Church"

Sarah Hart is one of the leading gures in contemporary Catholic music today. Her songs of faith have touched the lives of millions. She has a degree in music from Ohio State University and is on the road a good part of the year juggling songwriting, recording, concerts and full events schedule. Sarah lives in Nashville with her husband and two beautiful daughters.

Grandad loves Faith of our Fathers played on the organ, with gusto. Dad doesn't really like to sing at all. Junior wishes that the hymnal had more rap music. Mama always said "you can't please all the people all the time". This may be true, but it should not hinder us from trying! In this workshop with composer and speaker Sarah Hart, we take a fresh look at what it means to truly "celebrate" the mass with one another, by addressing the needs of our entire congregation, across the generations. With songs and stories, humor and prayer and discussion questions, we delve into how we can more eectively draw all generations into the worship experience with one another.

This presentation for pastoral leaders will help them to discern their role as theologians of the church – in a classical and practical way. In this presentation Fr. Leo focuses on how to catechize, evangelize, and create a parish atmosphere for authentic Catholic living. Touching on his experience with media, youth ministry, and the spirituality of his community as a Secular Institute Priest, Fr. Leo will engage the participants to become more eective in their ministries - without having to start another program.
