they reflected the significant infrastructure investments made by both private industry and your Port Authority—totaling more than $54 billion of capital investments, allowing the Port to invest more in our community.
We commenced the milestone-making Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project, a historic and near fully funded federal project to deepen the main channel to 54 feet and widen the channel to 530 feet, plus 200 feet of barge shelves. The dredging for this project is underway and should continue for the next four years, positioning the Port of Corpus Christi as the deepest port in the U.S. Gulf.
Through all projects, we work diligently to enhance the safety and efficiency of our operations while upholding the Port’s commitment to the highest standards of environmental protection in the maritime industry.
Transparency with our neighbors and the communities we serve is paramount. This communication is one of many more to come as we continue to share news from your port, whether in calm seas or troubled waters. We are resilient, we are united, and together, we are PORT STRONG.

Job Creation & Economic Growth (continued)
The Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project (CIP)The CIP is a Congressionally authorized project to construct improvements to the Corpus Christi and La Quinta Channels.
The $92 million construction contract to deepen the channel from Gulf of Mexico to Harbor Island was awarded to Great Lakes Dredge and Dock and began in Spring 2019. The Port anticipates that the Lower Bay reach contract will be awarded in early 2020, the Upper Bay reach in late 2020 and the Inner Harbor in 2021.
Looking AheadWe will take a phased approach to deepen the channel to 54’ (from 47’), widening to 530’ (from 500’ lower bay, 400’ upper bay), and 200’ wide barge shelves at 14’ in upper bay reach.

Setting New Records In Tonnage
In 2019, the Port of Corpus Christi set a new tonnage record of 122.2 million tons, surpassing the previous record of 106.2 million tons in 2018.
In these extraordinary times, we find ourselves faced with new challenges. In March of 2020, the global COVID-19 pandemic, an unprecedented crisis, threatened the safety of our nation. At the Port of Corpus Christi, we did what we always have done when disaster strikes. We took action.
Our Incident Management Team was activated as we focused on protecting our people and community. As national critical infrastructure, the Port of Corpus Christi is vital to our country’s economy and national security. There are over one million workers whose livelihoods are dependent on our ability to remain open for business, and our nation and global allies rely on us to deliver the energy they need to power the world.
We’re working hard to balance our role in ensuring our critical infrastructure remains safe for all workers and competitive for our customers, while also supporting the national and global response.
The last five years irrefutably have been transformative in our nearly 100-year history. We ended 2019 with the highest tonnage and revenues ever. These record-setting figures not only bespoke a resilient energy export market;
