[This is an adaptation of an earlier column from our former Pastor to facilitate the mailing of January’s TIE.]

Soon, the Christmas trees will be coming down, the lights and ornaments boxed up and life will begin to return to normal. Tate and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and we wish you a Happy New Year! Christmas has always been an exciting time at Ox Hill bringing a time of genuine spiritual renewal.

Much of the credit for this goes to many of you who are reading this column and many more. The number

of people from our church involved in making Christmas so meaningful at Ox Hill is amazing — the writers of our annual devotional book, participants in the worship services, the various choirs (both voice and handbell), all the activities’ participants, carolers and those behind the scenes who support all these activities in various ways. It is truly an all-church effort and you never fail to rise to the occasion.

A major share of these efforts belongs to your office staff: Paul, Garrett, Anne, Kim and Helen. Their efforts in supporting the activities of the church with dedicated, competent leadership is truly heroic. You are truly blessed with an outstanding ministry team that deserves your appreciation and gratitude.

Did I begin by saying things are starting to return to normal? Well, this year especially, anything but! The New Year will bring major changes and challenges.

But as much as things change, there is one constant you can always count on – God’s presence, grace and love.

Whatever comes, whatever the challenges are, be assured that God will be with you. As you continue to be faithful and attentive, God will guide you. You are blessed with excellent leadership in your Deacons who are truly God’s servants. As you support their management of the details that an active church requires, they will provide the spiritual center that will sustain you in the days ahead.

Tate, our children and I are thankful for the many memories you have given us. Your love, support and cooperation have blessed us beyond words. Thank you for allowing us the joy of sharing in your ministry. I’m convinced your best days are still to come. We wish you all a happy and joyful New Year!
