ItisalwaysexciVngonthefirstdaybackatthebeginningofeachschoolyear.Theschoolcomesbacktolifewiththefun,smilesandexcitementofchildrenexcitedaboutseeingfriendsandanewyearoflearning.Weareblessedwithgreatchildrenanddedicatedstaffmemeberswhohelpcreateafocussed,posiVveandfunenvironmentforlearning.
AspecialwelcometoYvonnePriestwhojoinsusasateacherfor2017.Alsowelcometoournewstudentsacrossarangeoflevelsintheschool.
Focusfor2017WehaveanumberoffocusareasandiniVaVvesfortheyearandbelowaresomedetails:
• SpecialCharacter-JoGichardourDRS(DirectorofReligiousStudies)willleadthestafftoconVnuetoauthenVcallydevelopourlinkswiththeJosephiteCharism.Thisyearwewillalsobeinvolvedinaspecialcharacterreview
•MST-ErinMcCullumwillworkasaMST(MathemaVcsSupportTeacher)fortheyear.ThisisfundedfromtheMinistryofEducaVon,ErinwillworkwithsmallgroupsofchildrentohelplictheirachievementinmathemaVcs.
• StaffdevelopmentinEnglish-HayleyMcKnightwillleadteacherprofessionaldevelopmentinwriVngandspeaking.WewillusecurrentresearchtoworktowardsimprovingourteachingpracVceinthisarea.Ourspecificinquiryis:Howcanweensurethatafocusonspeakingaspectsofthe
curriculumwillproducecorrespondingimprovementinwriVng?

SchoolUniformWetakeprideinouruniformandthankyouforensuringchildrenarrivedthisyearwiththeiruniformsalreadytogofortheterm.Weexpectchildrentowearcorrectuniformeveryday.Ifforsomereasonyourchildisunabletohavethecorrectuniformthenpleasesendanotefortheteacher.Theiruniformwillbeneedtoberemediedwithinafewdays.
SunsafeHopefullynowtheholidaysarefinishedwewillgetmoresejledweather.Weareasunsafeschoolandallchildrenareexpectedtowearasunhatwhenoutside.Pleaseensurethatyouchildhassunscreenonbeforeschool,wedoprovidesomesunscreenbutweonlyhavealimitedsupply.

SwimmingOurswimprogrammebeginsnextTuesdayforYear4-8childrenandWednesdayforYear1-3children.Ourswimprogrammeisveryfocussedandbasedonchildren’sabiliVes.Eachchildwillreceivetenswimmingsessionsoverthisterm.Wehavefoundthatgoodgoggles,appropriateswimwearandhairVedbackhelpsyourchildbenefitfromthesesessions.

Reflec8onLivingthebeaVtudesisnothingnewforparents.Weocensetourneedsanddesiresasideinordertocareforothers,especiallyourchildren.Ourgreatestchallenge,however,istobealivingwitnesstothefirstbeaVtude.Ifweunderstandandliveoutbeing“poorinspirit,”therestfallsintoplace.Fortobe“poorinspirit,”werelycompletelyonGod.WeknowwhatthepresentsituaVonholds,butrecognizethatthereisagreaterglorytocomeinGod’sKingdom.
WelcomebackfromtheP.T.A.Wearelookingforwardtoanotherwonderfulyearaheadandwouldlovetoworkwithandgettoknowmorefamiliesfromourschoolcommunity.
OurPTAismadeupofasmallgroupofbusyparentswhodonatetheirVmetohelpwithschoolacVviVesandfundraisingbutweneedmorehandsondeck!WewouldloveforyouoranyfriendsoftheschoolorextendedfamilymemberstojointhePTA,wealsounderstandthattodaysworldisabusyonesowehavedecidedtoformagroupof‘Friends’ofthePTA.BeingafriendofthePTAmeansyoudon’thavetoajendmeeVngsbutwecouldcontactyoutoseeifyouareavailabletohelpoutthePTAwithvarioustasks,it’salsoagreatopportunitytogetinvolvedandnetworkwithgreatpeoplefromourschoolcommunity.Itdoesn’tmeanyouaregoingtobecalledonalltheVmeandweunderstandifyouarebusyandcan’thelpbutforustohavealistofpeopletocallonandtakethepressureoffthroughouttheyearwouldbesuperhelpfulsopleasedon’tshyawayweareafriendlybunchwejustneedalijlemorehelptokeepworkingondoingthebestforourfabulousschool.
