OUR 2015 ACCOMPLISHMENTS 2 0 1 5 A N N UA L R E P O R T JANUARY Our Certified Diabetes Educator, Grace Gibson, RD, launched “Together on Diabetes,” a project of the American Association of Diabetes Educators, to study the effectiveness of Diabetes Self- Management Support. We began psychiatric services via telehealth at our Teays Valley office. FEBRUARY Our Teays Valley office began renovations to update our facilities and make our site more accessible for those with mobility impairment. MARCH Three FamilyCare medical assistants obtained certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants. MAY Long-term employees Diane Pendleton, RN and Marty Osborne, MA retired. FamilyCare upgraded our Compliance Program by hiring a full-time Compliance Officer. JUNE FamilyCare and Branches, through a grant from the national organization, Futures Without Violence, began a project to increase collaboration and referrals between health centers and domestic violence shelters. AUGUST FamilyCare received a Quality Improvement Award from HRSA (Health Resources and Services Administration). OCTOBER We made a smooth transition to the new ICD-10 Coding system. FamilyCare’s nurse-midwives presented a showing of “The Mama Sherpas – Midwives Across America” at Taylor Books in Charleston. NOVEMBER Our St. Albans office expanded Urgent Care hours to 7:00 pm, Monday through Thursday. Our Outreach and Eligibility workers supported Open Enrollment for the Health Insurance Marketplace. In 2015, our O/E Workers helped 132 people enroll for Marketplace coverage and 238 people apply for Medicaid. They provided information about Medicaid and Marketplace coverage to approximately 525 consumers. In addition our O/E Workers handled 205 medical and 197 dental Sliding-Fee Scale applications in 2015. DECEMBER We retired our original Mobile Dental Unit and began services to Boone and Putnam County schools in a brand new vehicle – Miles of Smiles.
