In 1608, Mar yland's fhst s ettlers sailed up the Potomac River to map its shoreline. Thus, the recorded history of the Oxon Hill Community began. Oxon Hill, today a thriving, expanding area, developed from a dis trict of lone traders and hunters.

Since its establishment in 1925, Oxon Hill Senior High has had . three diffe rent homes. I ts first was in what is now Oxon Hill Elementary School , with a seventh to eleventh grade enrollment of 150 students. Twenty -jour years later, in 1949, a new building (now Oxon Hill Junior High) was dedicated as the new high school. Then, in 1959, the present site was dedicated. In 1951 , and every ten years since, including 1970- 71 , Oxon Hill has been accredited by the Middle A tlantic States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

With the area's population grow-ing constantly , Oxon Hill's walls nea'Yly exploded with students . To match this tremendous growth, Oxon Hill became exclusively a senior high school in 1957, involving grades 10, 11, and 12. Today, with an enrollment of 1350 students and 76 faculty members, Oxon Hill Senior High is one of the oldest public secondary schools in Prince George 's County.

Though the iocation and appearance of Oxon Hill has changed throughout the years, the high educational and cultural standard within its wall are acclaimed by many national and state agencies as well as universities, colleges, and affiliates of the arts .

Friends Work. Play. Memories. Each a Piece of a j:JUzzle. When the Class of 1972 entered OxC'n Hill Senior High in September, 1969, each member had a goal--to fit the puzzle pieces together.

With a united effort, they began their task . Their firs t success was defeating the juniors in the Powder Puff Football game. As the year progressed, so did the sophomores, meeting every challenge, sometimes with failure. Their biggest trial was the planning of the Valentine 's Dance. With the successful production of "Cupid 's Creation, /I

s lowly the puzz le began to take s hape.

Wi th the bonds off riendship growing stronger, '69's sophomores returned as '70's juniors, ready to piece together another section of the pu.zzle. Success seemed imminent as once again the Class of '72 was victorious in the Powder Puff game. This was followed by another triumphant first, the winning of the class f loat competition at Homecoming 1970. Much of the rest of the year was spent in the planning for the Junior Prom. As May 8 approached, and the year was coming to a close, the juniors could see that their "Carousel of Life /I was beginning to revolve. For in the next couple of weeks they were to be sworn in as the Senior Class of 1972.

Winning the Homecoming Float competition for the second consecutive year gave the "mighty" seniors great promise for the coming months . United, officially , under the guiding theme , "Friends , /1 the Class of '72 shone its final lights on OHHS. The Senior Prom was tQ be the class' last reunion before graduation. A hint of nos talgia seemed to pierce the air of the Hotel Sonesta on May 2 7. as friends filled the room. All knew the completion of the puzzle was near.

The fi nal piece was added on graduation night and it became irreversibly locked. Only memories and a deeper understanding of life remained to guide the Class of '72 through the maze of the future.
