Takk for i r/Thanks

I 2014 feiret Norge grunnlovsjubileet gjennom sette fokus p demokrati, menneskerettigheter, rettferdighet, ytringsfrihet og integrering. Dette passet festivalen i 2014 perfekt. Disse verdi-ene er selve grunnlaget for Oslo World Music Festival (OWMF). Det er verdier festivalen setter hyt og fokuserer p hvert eneste r, og ikke minst; verdier som ikke kan tas for gitt. Artister fra land som Syria, Libanon, Irak, Algerie, Nigeria, Argentina, Egypt, Sr-Afrika og Peru fikk gjennom seks dager p 16 arenaer i Oslo satt skelys p viktige temaer og gitt publikum uforglemmelige musikalske opplevelser.

pningskonserten var et bra avspark til rets tema, nemlig Soundtrack of a Nation Lyden av en nasjon. Da Mandela ble fengslet, ble musikere som Hugh Masekela og Miriam Makeba tvunget i eksil. Men bde innenfor og utenfor Sr-Afrika ble kampen mot apartheid styrket gjennom musikken. Et utall protestsanger var sentrale i motstandskampen. Nasjonens soundtrack ble skapt. Stemningen Hugh Masekela klarte skape p Sentrum Scene p pningsdagen var mer enn magisk og viser musikkens kraft og musikeres mot. I 2014 ble nettopp det understreket ytterligere.

Musikk kan mobilisere og engasjere store folkemengder og bidra til sosial og politisk endring. Musikk skaper fellesskap, uavhengig av geografisk og religis tilknytning, uavhengig av sprk og nas-jonalitet. Musikk overlever kriger og undertrykking. Mennesker p flukt synger for sine barn. Musikk er en skatt ingen kan ta fra oss.

Jeg nsker takke alle vre publikummere som deler sin glede med oss, alle vre frivillige som gir av seg selv og gjr festiva-len mulig, alle vre samarbeidspartnere og stttespillere som gjr festivalen innholdsrik og brekraftig, alle vre artister som gjr Oslo World Music Festival til et fantastisk vindu mot verden.

Vi gleder oss til skape mer magi i 2015.

2014 was the year Norway celebrated its 200th constitutional anniversary by focusing on democracy, human rights, justice, integration and freedom of speech. This suited the festival perfectly, as these values are the very pillars of the Oslo World Music Festival (OWMF). They are cherished values, that guide the festival every year and values we must never take for granted. During six days at 16 different venues in Oslo, artists from countries such as Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Algeria, Nigeria, Argentina, Egypt, South Africa and Peru gave the audiences unforgettable musical experiences and highlighted important themes.

The opening concert was a fine kickoff for this years festival theme Soundtrack of a Nation. When Mandela was imprisoned, musicians like Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba were forced into exile but their music prevailed. Both within and outside South Africas borders, it kept strengthening the resistance against Apartheid. A vast number of protest songs played a central role in the struggle. The soundtrack of a nation was born. The atmosphere Hugh Masekela managed to create at Sentrum Scene was more than magical and showed the power of music and the courage of musicians. In 2014 this was more clear than ever.

Music can mobilize and engage the masses, and contribute to social and political change. Music creates fellowship, regardless of geographical or religious affiliation, regardless of language and nationality. Music survives wars and oppression. Displaced people sing to their children. Music is a treasure no one can take from us.

I want to thank our audiences for sharing their joy with us, our volunteers who give so much of themselves and make the festival possible. Thanks to our collaborators and supporters who make the festival dynamic and sustainable. And to all our musicians who make Oslo World Music Festival a wonderful window towards the world.

We look forward to creating more magic in 2015.

Oslo World Music Festival 2014

Stiftelsen Oslo World Music Festival er en av Europas ledende verdensmusikkfestivaler. I 2014 ble festivalen arrangert fra 28.oktober-2.november i Oslo. I tillegg til festivaluken har stiftelsen ulike typer arrangement gjennom ret, som VrtNabolag, Musikkfest Oslo, turnvirksomhet og konserter.

Oslo World Music Festival nsker gjennom kvalitetsmusikk bidra til styrke fri kulturell utfoldelse og ytringsfrihet, og i tillegg skape en arena hvor Oslos borgere mter tilreisende gjester med ulik kulturell bakgrunn og erfaring.

The Foundation Oslo World Music Festival is one of Europes leading world music festivals. In 2014 the festival took place from 28th of October-2nd of November. In addition to the festival OWMF has different events during the year, VrtNabolag, Musikkfest Oslo, tours and concerts.

Through quality music Oslo World Music Festival wants to contribute to strengthen free cultural expression and freedom of speech and to create meeting places for the residents of Oslo and visiting guests with different cultural backgrounds and experiences.

Oslo World Music Festival pnet p Sentrum Scene tirsdag 28.oktober. Statssekretr i Utenriksdepartementet, Morten Hglund, pnet festivalen offisielt. Festivalsjef Alexandra Archetti Stlen holdt pningstalen. Ole Edvard Antonsen (trompet) og Stein Austrud (keyboard) pnet festivalen musikalsk med verket Svalbard.

Det var en stor glede at Sr-Afrikas - og kanskje hele det afrikanske kontinentets - strste trompetist pnet rets festival hvor temaet var Lyden av en nasjon. Flertallet av rets artister kom fra land hvor uavhengighet, ytringsfrihet og selvbestemmelse er langt fra en selvflgelig rettighet. En av disse er Hugh Masekela, som ble tvunget i eksil under apartheidregimet. I Sr-Afrika var musikk en viktig katalysator i kampen mot styresmaktene i mer enn 20 r, og Masekela hadde en svrt viktig stemme i denne kampen.

To av Norges fremste musikere; Ole Edvard Antonsen og Mathias Eick gjorde en eksklusiv gjesteopptreden i forbindelse med pningskonserten. De var gjestesolister p en av Masekelas aller strstehitsGrazinintheGrass.

The Oslo World Music Festival opened at Sentrum Scene on Tuesday the 28th of October. Morten Hglund, Secretary of State, officially opened the festival. Archetti Stlen, Festival Director gave the opening speech. Ole Edvard Antonsen (trumpet) and Stein Austrud (keyboard) opened the whole night off with the piece Svalbard.

It was a great pleasure that South Africa`s greatest trumpeter - and perhaps also the most accomplished trumpeter of the African continent - opened the festival where the theme was Soundtrack of a Nation. The majority of this years artists comes from countries where independence, freedom of expression and self-determination by no means are a self evident right. One of these artists is Hugh Masekela, who played an important part in forming a cultural voice against the Apartheid regime.

I de seks dagene Oslo World arrangerte festival kunne man oppleve store og sm musikalske yeblikk p scener i hele Oslo. Alt fra flamenco, soul og fado til elektronika, hip hop og rkenblues ble tilbudt publikum. Her ser vi tilbake p noen av de musikalskehydepunktenefra2014:

Seminarer

I 2014 utvidet festivalen sitt seminarprogram. Seminarene er et viktig satsningsomrde. Her skapes det rom for diskutere de politiske aspektene ved noe av den musikken som hres p festivalens ulike scener. Mange av artistene som besker Oslo under festivaluken kommer fra land der menneskerettigheter og ytringsfrihet ikke er praktisert slik vi kjenner det til i Norge. Videre er det viktig for festivalen gi artistene rom til kunne definere deres artisteri fritt, langt vekk fra musikkbransjens restriksjoner.Irdiskutertevialtfraretstema:Lydenavennasjon med Hugh Masekela i samtale med Ole Reitov (Freemuse) p Nobels Fredssenter til hvordan utvidet strmmetjenester fra USA og Europa pvirker rettighetene til artister i Sr med blant annetTrondTornes(Phonofile)ipanelpKulturhuset.

1) Musikermte: Packaging the Musiconsdag, 29.oktober p Kulturhuset, 10:00-12:00Musikermte er festivalens interne bransjeseminar der kun inviterte deltar. Dette seminaret handlet om presentasjonen av artister som kommer fra andre steder enn Europa og USA, der perspektiver rundt identitet, bssetting og politisk kunst ble satt i fokus. Seminaret ble ledet av Asta Busingye Lydersen.

2) Soundtrack of a Nation: onsdag 29.oktober, Nobels Fredssenter, 17:00-19:00Seminaret Soundtrack of a Nation-lyden av en nasjon, drftet i hovedsak hvordan musikken beveger, motiverer og engasjerer mennesker. Hva skal til for at musikk gir oss en flelse av tilhrighet og nasjonsbygging? Seminaret ble arrangert i samarbeid med Amnesty International, Freemuse og Nobels Fredssenter. Seminaret var delt i to deler, med to ordstyrere, Ole ReitovisamtalemedHughMasekelaifrstedelen,ogCecilieHellestveit fra ILPI (International Law and Policy Institute) i andre del.

3) Strmming til verden: Overgangen til nye plattformer i flere verdensdeler: torsdag 30.oktober, Kulturhuset, 10:00-12:00 Hvilket ansvar er det bygge kompetanse og rammeverk rundt digitale plattformer slik at rettighetene til fremtidige artister blir bevart? Seminaret var arrangert i samarbeid med Wimp. Ordstyrer var Trond Tornes fra Phonofile.

4) Makt og musikk og massene: Medienes rolle som portvokter og maktutver torsdag 30.oktober, Kulturhuset, kl. 17:00-18:30 Festivalukens fjerde seminar var arrangert i samarbeid med Institut franais de Norvge. Tematikken rundt medienes rolle som portvokter og maktutver var her i fokus. Oda Faremo Lindholm styrte ordet p en debatt med ledende stemmer i bde norsk og internasjonal presse.

5) Musikk for en overgangsgenerasjon - tiden etter Apartheid-regimet falt, 31.oktober, Kulturhuset, kl. 18:00-19:00 Festivalukens siste seminar satte skelyset p Sr-Afrika. I 2014 var det 20 r siden landet fikk sin frste demokratiske grunnlov, en kontrast til Norges 200 rs jubileumsfeiring samme r. The Brother Moves On (TBMO) er et kunstnerkollektiv som sier de skaper musikk for en overgangsgenerasjon i et Sr-Afrika der Apartheid-regimet er avskaffet. Samtidig har friheten og demokratiutviklingen de hadde hpet p, uteblitt. FredagspublikumetpKulturhusetfikkoppleveendynamiskogemosjonell debatt om den reelle kostnaden til fred og frihet. Samtalens ordstyrer var festivalens egen produsent, Nosizwe Lise Baqwa. Stttet av Fellesrdet for Afrika.

Seminarene ble arrangert i samarbeid med flere av festivalens partnere og er stttet av Fritt Ord. Alle seminarene foregikk p engelsk.

Seminars

In 2014, Oslo World expanded its seminar programme. The seminars are an important focus for the festival. Here we create space to discuss the political aspects of some of the wonderful music we listen to at our various venues. Many of the artists that visit Oslo during the festival, come from countries where human rights such as freedom of expression, are not as self evident as we know them to be in Norway. Furthermore, it is important for the festival to give artists space to define their artistry freely, far away from the restrictions of the international and national music industry. This year we discussed everything fromthethemeofthisyearsfestival:thesoundtrackofanation with Hugh Masekela, in conversation with Ole Reitov (Freemuse)attheNobelPeaceCentre,tohowmusicstreamingservices from the US and Europe affects the rights of artists in the South with amongst other Trond Tornes (Phonofile) in the panelatKulturhuset.

1) Musicians Meet & Greet: Packaging the MusicWednesday the 29th of October, at Kulturhuset, 10:00-12:00TheMusiciansMeet&Greetseminaristheexclusive,industry-only seminar of the festival. This year, the seminar focused on the presentation of artists coming from all other countries outside of Europe and the US, where perspectives around identity, definitions, labels and political art, were put into focus. The seminar was led by Asta Busingye Lydersen.

2) Soundtrack of a Nation: Wednesday the 29th of October, at the Nobel Peace Centre, 17:00-19:00Every year, Oslo World organises a seminar in collaboration with theNobelPeaceCentre.TheseminarSoundtrackofaNation,discussed how music moves, motivates and engages people. How does music contribute to give us a sense of belonging and nationhood? The seminars was organized in cooperation with Amnesty International, Freemuse and Nobels Fredssenter.The seminar was divided into two parts, with two moderators, Ole Reitov in conversation with Hugh Masekela in the first part andCecilieHellestveitfromILPI(InternationalLawandPolicyInstitute) in the second part.

3) Streaming into the world, the transition to new platforms: Thursday the 30th of October, Kulturhuset, 10:00-12:00Whose responsibility is it to build competence and frameworks around digital platforms, so that the rights of future artists are preserved? The seminar was organized in collaboration with Wimp. The moderator was Trond Tornes, from Phonofile.

4) Money, music and the Masses: Media as a Gatekeeper: Thursday the 30th of October, Kulturhuset, at 17:00-18:30The festival weeks fourth seminar was organized with support from the Institut franais la Norvge. The discussions focused on the issues connected to the medias role as gatekeeper and powerful influence in society. Oda Faremo Lindholm moderated a compelling and lively debate with leading voices from both Norwegian and international press.

5) The beautiful ones are not yet born; Music from a transitional South Africa: Friday the 31st of October, at Kulturhuset, 18:00-19:00ThelastseminaroftheweekputthespotlightonSouthAfrica:The great nation marked her 20th anniversary as a young democracy in 2014; a profound contrast to Norway 200th anniversary celebration in the same year. The Brother Moves On (TBMO) is an artist collective that says they create music for a transitional generation in a South Africa where the Apartheid regime has been abolished, but where freedom and democracy development is yet to be wholly manifested. The Friday audience atKulturhusetgottoexperienceanintimate,dynamicandemotional debate about the real cost of peace and freedom. The moderator was Oslo World producer, Nosizwe Lise Baqwa. The seminars are organised in cooperation with several of the festivals partners and is supported by Fritt Ord. All seminars are conducted in English.

Delegatprogram/Delegate Program

Oslo Worlds delegatprogram2014 er andre ret p rad at Oslo World Music Festival arrangerer et delegatprogram. Det ble invitert bde journalister og representanter fra musikkbransjen, og kom i r fra land somLibanon,Sr-Afrika,Tunis,Frankrike,Kina,NorgeogStorbritannia. Delegatprogrammet er der internasjonale samarbeidspartnere kan mte nasjonale aktrer. Delegatene er relevante bidragsytere til festivalens arbeid.

Festivalen inviterte bde internasjonale og norske delegater. Mlet med delegatprogrammet var skape nye nettverk, lfte viktige saker p agendaen og skape relasjoner som videre kan gi fruktbare samarbeid nasjonalt og internasjonalt. I tillegg nsker festivalen fungere som en kunnskapsarena innenfor norsk musikknring, og som en plattform for bde de norske og internasjonale musikerne som spiller under Oslo World. OWMFs delegatprogram besto blant annet av seminarer, ofte med deltagelse i panel av delegatene selv. OWMF hadde ogs en samling hos Music Norway, mini-konsert med Nordic Namgar p Frognerseteren, intimkonsert med Trygve Seim p Vigelands Mausoleet og delegatmiddag p Taco Republica i Torggata.

Alle delegatene hadde fri tilgang p alle festivalens konserter. Festivalen la ogs til rette for intervjuer med artister for journalistene, flere av sakene har allerede blitt publisert i internasjonalmedia;inkluderttheGuardian(Uk)ogMailandGuardian(SouthAfrica).

Delegatprogrammet er stttet av Music Norway, Rikskonsertene og Nobels Fredssenter.

Oslo Worlds delegate program 2014 marks the second year in a row that the Oslo World Music Festival organizes a delegate program. The delegates consisted of journalists as well as representatives of the international music industry, and came from countries such as Lebanon, South Africa,Tunisia,France,China,NorwayandUK.Theactivitiesthatwere organized for the delegates, provided an important arena and platform of opportunity for integrating partners and relevant contributors to the festivals work.

The festival invited both international and norwegian delegates. The goal is to create new networks between delegates, which in turn can lead to good cooperation. In addition to this, the festival endeavours to be a resource of knowledge and competence within the Norwegian music industry, as well as a showcase platform for the Norwegian and international musicians that perform during Oslo World.

The delegate program consisted of seminars, often with the participation of the delegates themselves in the panels. Amongst other things, there was a meet and greet with Music Norway, a mini concert with Nordic Namgar at Frognerseteren Restaurant, an intimate concert with Trygve Seim at the Vigeland Mausoleum and a delegates dinner at Taco Republica in Torggata.

All delegates had free access to all of the festivals concerts. Oslo World also coordinated interviews with all of our artists for the journalists. Several write-ups have already been published in internationalmedia;includingtheGuardian(UK)andtheMailandGuardian(SouthAfrica).

The delegate program is supported by Music Norway, Concerts Norway, and the Nobel Peace Center.

Saturday 1st of NovemberBus trip to three sacred spacesFor the second time the Oslo World Music Festival arranged a bustriptothreesacredspacesinOslo:TheMosaicReligiousCommunityatSt.Hanshaugen,IslamicCulturalCentreatGrnlandandtheGreekOrthodoxcongregationinThorOlsensstreet. The bus trip started at the University Square and lasted five hours. Trond Bakkevig, deacon of Vestre Aker church group, was the guide for the trip. The Sound of the Sacred was arranged incollaborationwithKULT-theCenterforart,cultureandchurch.

AvslutningskonsertTrygve Seim Rumi Songs avsluttet Oslo World Music Festival 2014 med konsert i Tyenkirken sndag 2.november. Spesielt inviterte dennekveldenvarKirkensBymisjonsgjester.Konserten var et samarbeid med Kirkens Bymisjon.

Ungdomssatsing/Youth Projects

Festivalen satset videre i 2014 med styrke ungdomsprosjekter og tilbudet til barn og unge som tilhrer alle deler av Oslos befolkning. Det er viktig for Oslo World at tilbudet til barn og ungdom er gratis eller holder en lav billettpris, slik at det kan n ut til flest mulig.

Oslo World inngikk et samarbeid med Yngling, som er Parkteatrets konsertrekke rettet mot ungdom mellom 14 og 18 r. Engasjementet bak prosjektet er drevet av et tydelig behov for et slikt tilbud, og et sterkt nske om bidra til gjre musikk av hy kvalitet tilgjengelig for flest mulig. Mlet er at ungdom kan oppdage og oppleve ny og aktuell musikk innen ulike sjangre p lik linje med det voksne publikum. Oslo World programmerte DannyMaroc(NO/MA)ogSamuelBazawule(GH),bedrekjentunder hiphop-aliaset Blitz the Ambassador p Yngling. Festivalen ga 100 billetter til beboere p Hvalstad transittmottak til denne konserten.

The festival continued in 2014 to support and strengthen youth projects as well as contribute musical experiences to the children and youth of Oslo. Its important for Oslo World that young participants can attend concerts for free or at a low cost, so that as many as possible can come.

Oslo World partnered up with Yngling, Parkteaterets concert series designed for youth between 14-18 years old. The enthusiasm behind the project grows from a very clear need for this type of event, and a strong wish to make high quality music experiences available to as many as possible. The goal is that youth can discover and experience new and current music in several different genres in the same way as adults. Oslo World hosted a concert with Danny Maroc (NO/MA) and SamuelBazawule(GH),betterknownashiship-hopaliasBlitztheAmbassador, at Yngling. The festival gave 100 tickets to Hvalstad transit reception center for this concert.

Oslo World Music Festival deems it important that youth under 18 should have the possibility to experience music from the whole world in a safe environment with no alcohol. The festival had severaleventswithallagesandfreeentrance:

Frivillige/Volunteers

Oslo World Music Festival hadde over 200 frivillige som stilte opp for festivalen i 2014. Flertallet av disse kommer tilbake r etter r, mens andre er nykommere. Vi setter umtelig pris p vre frivillige, og uten de hadde Oslo World aldri kunnet arrangere festival.

Oslo World Music Festival had more than 200 volunteers who worked for the festival in 2014. The majority of these come back year after year, but others are newcomers. We highly appreciate our volunteers, and without them Oslo World would never be able to arrange the festival.

For 16.ret p rad inviterte Rikskonsertene til en reise gjennom ulikekunstuttrykkogkulturer.OvertodagerbleGrnlandkulturstasjon og Asylet kaf fylt med verksteder, konserter, utstillinger og aktiviteter for hele familien.

Det hele ble pnet med en stor konsert i anledning grunnlovsjubileet 2014; GrunnLove. Her delte 80 barn og profesjonelle musikere scene. Reisen gikk i r blant annet til SyriaogGazagjennomprosjektetMenneskebiblioteket.Etspesielt fokus ble ogs satt p Somalia, som har den tredje strste innvandringsgruppen i Norge per i dag. Uteomrdet ble utvidet, som innebar at Verdensdag-teltet ble lansert og huset med dette bde Markedsplass og en utvidet Verdensdag-scene.

Hele arrangementet var gratis. Det ble arrangert 22 Barnas verdensdager rundt omkring i landet gjennom hele 2014.

ChildrensArtsExplorationopenedwithabigconcertontheoccasion of the constitutional anniversary in 2014; GrunnLove. 80 children and professionals shared the same stage.The journey this year went to many different countries, among othersSyriaandGazathroughtheprojectHumanLibrary. A special focus was also on Somalia, the third largest immigration group in Norway today. The outdoor area was incorporated and a big tent was raised up, and thereby included both a market place and an expanded Art Exploration-scene.

Alif Ensemble (LB/PS/EG/IQ) - De fem medlemmene kommer fra Libanon, Egypt, Palestina og Irak, og er alle multitalenter med egne prosjekter. Sammen har de skapt et pan-arabisk musikalsk kollektiv. Islam Chipsy (EG) Bandet befinner seg i spydspissen av en ny blge egyptisk elektronika som vrir og vrenger klassisk arabisk musikk og folkelig shaabi med et energisk sound.

Maurice Louca (EG) - inspirert av bde arabisk folkemusikk, lydenavKairosgaterogmoderneelektronikaerMauriceLoucaen av de mer ekstreme utverne av egyptisk samtidsmusikk.

A condensed version of the Beirut & Beyond International Music Festival was presented at Bl during the Oslo World Music Festival. The artists also went on a tour to Stockholm, Malm and Bern.

Alif Ensemble The five members come from Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine and Iraq and they are all multitalented musicians who also have projects of their own. Together they have founded a pan-Arab musical collective.

Islam Chipsy - This band represents the avant-garde of a new wave of Egyptian electronica where classical Arab music and shaabi folk tunes are twisted and shaped into an exciting sound.

Maurice Louca Maurice Louca represents an extreme wing of Egyptian contemporary music, he is inspired by Arabic folk music as well as modern electronica and the sounds of Cairosstreets.

Beirut & Beyond International Music Festival (BBMIF) har helt siden oppstarten i 2013 vrt en viktig del av Oslo World Music Festivalsinhelrsvirksomhet.OKWORLDprosjekteti2012bidro til mter mellom OWMFs festivalsjef Alexandra Archetti Stlen og BBIMF sine grunnleggere. Samarbeidet har siden den gang utviklet seg til en meningsfull og brekraftig plattfrom for kultursamarbeid mellom arabiske og europeiske organisasjoner.

Den andre versjonen av BBMIF ble holdt fra 4.7.desember, og ble fylt med 11 konserter med artister fra Midt-sten og Europa p seks forskjellige scener i Beirut og Tripoli. GjennomdetosistereneharfestivalsjefAmaniSemaan,kunstnerisklederKhaledYassineogproduksjonsansvarligZiadFayed lykkes i posisjonere seg som sentrale kulturaktrer blant musikkfestivaler i Libanon.

BBMIF er ogs en plattform for mter, utstillinger, seminarer og dialog. Festivalen er grunnlagt for sttte og stimulere veksten av den uavhengige musikken i den arabiske verden. Festivalen er et svar p de akutte behovene til et voksende kunst-, kultur- og ytringsmarked som mangler kanaler.

Beirut&BeyondInternationalMusicFestivalmottarmidlerfra AFAC (The Arab Fund for Arts and Culture), den norske ambassaden i Beirut og Music Norway. Festivalen blir igjen arrangert i desember 2015.

Since 2013, the Beirut & Beyond International Music Festival (BBMIF) has been an important part of Oslo World Music Festival.TheOKWORLDprojectin2012establishedtheframework of the first edition during meetings between OWMF director Alexandra Archetti Stolen and BBIMF founders. The partnership has since evolved into a meaningful and sustainable blueprint for cultural collaborations between Arab and European organizations.

The second version of BBMIF was arranged from 4th-7th of December, and offered 11 concerts with artists from the Middle East and Europe at six different venues in Beirut and Tripoli. During the last two years, festival director Amani Semaan, artisticdirectorKhaledYassineandproductionmanagerZiadFayed have succeeded in becoming key players in the map of regional festivals and showcases.

BBMIF is also a platform for meetings, showcases, exchanges and dialogues designed to underpin and stimulate the growth of the independent music industry in the Arab world and beyond. The festival responds to the urgent needs of a growing artistic development, that lacks a supportive infrastructure.

TheBeirut&BeyondInternationalMusicFestivalreceivesfundsfrom AFAC (the Arab Funds for Arts and Culture), the Norwegian Embassy in Beirut and Music Norway. The festival will be arranged again in December 2015.

Lrdag 30. august inviterte Oslo World Music Festival og Torshov Transittmottak til festivaldagen VrtNabolag p Torshov Transittmottak. Programmet besto av artister som Samsaya, Baba Soul og Degos and the Silky Johnsons. Beboerne p mottaket laget matretter fra sine hjemland og barnfraCordodeOurodansetcapoeira.Itilleggvardetansiktsmaling for barn og pen scene hvor blant annet barn fremfrte egenkomponerte dikt, appeller og sanger. Torshov Transittmottak hadde workshops med beboerne i forkant der de diskuterte grunnlov og menneskerettigheten; ytringsfrihet. Et resultat av dette ble til en utstilling av barnetegninger p VrtNabolag. Over 500 beskte mottaket denne dagen.

Musikk er en svrt viktig brobygger og p VrtNabolag, fikk publikum mulighet til bli mer kjent med sitt nabolag. Festivaldagen gjentas 22.august 2015 p Torshov Transittmottak!

On Saturday the 30th of August Oslo World Music Festival and Torshov transit reception center arranged the one-day festival called VrtNabolag (our neighborhood). The line-up consisted of artists like Samsaya, Baba Soul and Degos and the Silky Johnsons. The residents from the reception centre made foodfromtheirhomecountriesandchildrenfromCordodeOurodancedCapoiera.Therewasalsofacepaintingandopenstage where children, amongst others, performed self-made poems, appeals and songs. Torshov transit reception center had arranged workshops before the festival, where constitutional and human rights such as freedom of speech were discussed. One result of this was the exhibition of paintings from children showed on VrtNabolag. Over 500 visited the reception center this day.

Music is an important bridge builder and at VrtNabolag the public had the opportunity to become more familiar with their own neighborhood. The festival day will be repeated again on August 22nd 2015.

Music Freedom Day KirkeligKulturverkstedandOsloWorldMusicFestivalcelebratedMusic Freedom Day on Monday 3rd of March. This is a day where the right to musical expression is celebrated and discussed. The concert with Dina El Wedidi and Mazaher was a meeting between modern and traditional Egyptian female artists. At a time when conservative forces are putting women in the performing arts under pressure, music can play an important role in mobilizing the masses to protest.

DistribusjonDet ble i 2014 trykket opp 25.000 miniprogram, 15.000 kataloger og 1500 plakater. Det ble ogs produsert 1000 handlenett og 800 t- skjorter, samt et lite opplag med mobildeksler med rets profil. I tillegg ble det trykket 5000 flyere og 500 plakater til Barnas verdensdager.

Media PartnersDagsavisen is our main media partner. The newspaper creates a special festival appendix distributed to all their subscribers. 50,000 copies were distributed through the newspaper, while the festival distributes 15,000 copies. The appendix in Dagsavisen came out on 17th of October and helped increase awareness and ticket sales.

CooperationwiththeradioprogramJungeltelegrafenwascontinuedin2014withconcertsandlivebroadcastingfromKulturhuset.

Natt & Dag was a new partner in 2014. It is important for Oslo World to reach out to new audiences, and therefore we chose to cooperate with Natt & Dag. OWMF-appendix of seven pages in the October edition of Natt & Dag was released 3rd of October. In collaboration with Natt & Dag, Oslo World organized the launch party, where one of the festival artists, Monica Ifejilika, performed.

DistributionOWMF printed up 25,000 mini programs, 15,000 catalogs and 1500 posters. There was also produced 1000 tote bags, 800 t-shirts and a limited edition of phone covers with this years profile. In addition5000flyersand500posterswereprintedforChildrensArts Exploration.

Utenriksdepartementet, Kulturdepartementet og Oslo Kommune har i en rrekke vrt festivalens hovedsamarbeidspartner. Deres konomiske bidrag og engasjement for festivalen er helt avgjrende for kunne presentere vrt program.

Bydel Sagene har siden festivalens oppstart i 1994 trofast stttet festivalen.

Dagsavisen produserer festivalbilaget og har vrt en av vre viktigste mediepartnere i flere r.

Natt & Dag var en ny samarbeidspartner i 2014. Via gratisavisen N&D ble det produsert et integrert bilag om Oslo World i oktober-utgaven 2014.

NRK P2 har fungert som festivalens faste festivalradio siden 2008. Turkish Airlines har vrt en viktig samarbeidspartner for festivalen i 2014.

Ambassader Sr-Afrikas ambassade bidro til bevertning p mottakelsen i forkant av pningskonserten med Hugh Masekela. Den spanske ambassaden stttet konsertene med Buika og Marinah. Det spanske turistkontor bidro med bevertning i forkant av konserten med Buika. Algeries ambassade stttet konserten til SouadMassiogKhaled,Argentinasambassadestttetkonsertenmed Melingo. Portugals ambassade stttet konserten med Dead Combo.InstituttfrancaisdeNorvegestttetseminaretmoney,music and the masses media as a gatekeeper.

Rikskonsertene Takk til Rikskonsertene for et godt samarbeid generelt, og for Barnas verdensdager spesielt.

Nobels Fredssenter For fjerde gang arrangerte Oslo World i samarbeid med Nobels Fredssenter et seminar under festivalen. Seminarets tema var Soundtrack of a nation lyden av en nasjon og ble holdt onsdag 29. oktober p Nobels Fredssenter.

Kulturhuset ForandregangvarKulturhusettilholdsstedforbdefestivalkontor, fire seminarer og direktesendt radio.

Fritt Ord er en viktig partner for fremme ytringsfriheten, og stttet seminarrekken.

Music Norway fungerte som en god samarbeidspartner bde i utviklingen og gjennomfringen av delegatprogrammet for andre r p rad. Music Norway ga ogs konomisk sttte til Beirut & Beyond International Music Festival.

Internasjonalt samarbeid Oslo World Music Festival er medlem av det internasjonale nettverket European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals. Internasjonale nettverk er viktig for diskutere program, temaer, artistvalg og andre festivalrelaterte saker.

Festivalsamarbeid I flere r har Oslo World Music Festival samarbeidetmedRidduRiufestivalen.Gjennomsamarbeidetvises den rike samiske kulturen frem i hovedstaden. Sametinget stttet konserten med Noridic Namgar i 2014. Oslo World har i tillegg knyttet seg til flere internasjonale festivaler som satellittfestivalen Beirut & Beyond International Music Festival, FestivalauDsertogSautizaBusarapZanzibar,Timitarfestivaleni Marokko og Mar de Musicas i Spania.

Parkteaterets Yngling Festivalen har i en rrekke arbeidet med barn og unge. I 2014 valgte vi samarbeide med Parkteaterets Ynglingsprosjekt. Sammen arrangerte vi konserter med Blitz the Ambassador og Danny Maroc for ungdom mellom 14 og 18 r.

Asylmottak Torshov Transittmottak var en viktig bidragsyter for festivaldagen VrtNabolag 2014. Samarbeidet viderefres i 2015. Beboere fra Refstad ankomstmottak, Torshov transittmottak, Dikemark- og Hvalstad asylmottak fikk velge ut konserter de nsket g p gratis. Dette er et viktig samarbeid for festivalen som vi vil videreutvikle.

Festivalen er helt avhengig av gode samarbeidspartnere, ogs kommersielle. Tusen takk til Indiska Norge, Wimp, VisitOslo og Flytoget for sttte og bidrag til festivalen.

Partners

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Culture and the City of Oslo have been the festivals main partners for a number of years. Their contribution and commitment to the festival is crucial for the presentation of our program.

Sagene city district has supported the festival since its inception in 1994.

The Dagsavisen daily newspaper produces the festival appendix and has been one of the festivals major media partners for several years.

Natt & Dag was a new media-collaborator in 2014. We had integrated vouchers via this free newspaper in the October-issue 2014.

NRK P2 has functioned as the festivals permanent radio station since 2008. Jungeltelegrafen set up the Jungelscenen and JungeltelegrafenLIVEatKulturhusetonthreeofthefestivaldays.

Turkish Airlines has been a major partner for the festival in 2014.

Embassies The Embassy of South Africa provided catering for the reception prior to the opening concert with Hugh Masekela. The Embassy of Spain made a contribution to both the concert with Buika and Marinah. I need Spain - the Spanish tourist information office provided a taste of Spain prior to the concert with Buika. The Embassy of Algeria supported the concert with Souad Massi andKhaled,TheEmbassyofArgentinamadeacontributiontothe concert with Melingo. The Embassy of Portugal supported the DeadComboconcert.InstitutfrancaisdelaNorvgecontributedto the seminar Money, Music and the Masses Media as a Gatekeeper.

Concerts NorwayThankstoConcertsNorwayforthecollaborationgenerally,andtoChildren`sArtsExplorationespecially.

The Nobel Peace CenterTogetherwiththeNobelPeaceCenterwe arranged a seminar during the festival for the fourth time. The topic of the seminar was Soundtrack of a nation, and took place onWednesday29thofOctoberattheNobelPeaceCenter.

KulturhusetOsloWorldhaditsfestivalofficeduringthefestivalweek, seminars and live radio for the second year.

The Freedom of Expression Foundation helps Oslo World to promote freedom of expression and the environment for freedom of expression for artists. They supported the seminar program. Concerts Norway served as a good partner in both the development and implementation of the delegate program. ConcertsNorwayalsoprovidedfinancialsupportfortheBeirut&Beyond International Music Festival.

International cooperation The Oslo World Music Festival is a member of the international network of the European Forum of Worldwide Music Festivals. International networks are of key importance for the discussion of programmes, topics, artist selection and other festival-related issues.

Inter-festival cooperation Oslo World has collaborated with the Riddu Riu festival for several years, thus also making it possible to bring the rich Smi culture to the capital city. The Smi parliament supported the concert with Nordic Namgar in 2014. In addition Oslo World have formed alliances with several international festivals such as the Festival au Dsert in Mali, Sauti zaBusarainZanzibar,theTimitarfestivalinMorocco,andMardeMusicas in Spain.

Parkteaterets Yngling Oslo World has for several years worked with children and youth. In 2014 the festival collaborated with Parkteaterets Yngling project. In this framework concerts with Blitz the Ambassador and Danny Maroc was arranged for youth between 14 and 18 years.

Asylum reception centres Torshov transit reception center was an important contributor for the festival day VrtNabolag 2014. Residents from Refstad arrival reception center, Torshov transit reception center, Dikemark and Hvalstad reception centers were able to choose some concerts they wanted to attend free of charge. This is an important collaborative initiative that we wish to expand.
