The Mid Atlantic OSHA Training Institute Education Center (MAOTIEC) is part of the national network of

nonprofit organizations authorized by OSHA to deliver occupational safety and health training to private and

public sector workers, supervisors, and employers. The MAOTIEC was selected through a national competitive

process based upon our occupational safety and health training experience. We support the OSHA training

mission through other safety and health programs, including community outreach efforts, courses offered in

Spanish, and various youth initiatives. The MAOTIEC help to ensure safe and healthful working conditions for

working men and women by providing training on hazard recognition and avoidance to workers, employers, and

other safety professionals. Northampton Community College (NCC) is a consortium partner within the

MAOTIEC which allows NCC to act as an education agent for OSHA through the teaching of select OSHA

Training Institute Education Center courses.

This course covers the OSHA Standards, policies, and proce-dures in the construction industry. Topics include scope and application of the OSHA Standards, construction safety and health principles, with special emphasis on the most hazardous areas in construction. OSHA #500Trainer Course in OSHA Standards for Construction4 days l $845

Designed for individuals interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour construction safety and health Outreach Training Program to their employees and other interested groups. Using OSHA Construction Standards as a guide, special empha-sis is placed on those topics required in the 10- and 30-hour programs and those which are most hazardous. Students are briefed on effective instructional approaches and use of visual aids and handouts. It allows the student to become a trainer in the OSHA Outreach Training Program, to conduct both 10- and 30-hour Construction Outreach classes, and to issue cards to participants after verifying course completion. Students who wish to participate as authorized Outreach trainers in the OSHA Outreach Training Program must prepare a presentation on an assigned OSHA Construction Outreach Training Program topic individually or as part of a group and successfully pass a written exam at the end of the course.

Prerequisites: Students must successfully complete the OSHA #510 Occupational Safety and Health Standards for Construction and have five (5) years of safety and health work experience in the construction industry. A degree in occupational safety and health, a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or a Certified Industrial Hygien-ist (CIH) designation may be substituted for two (2) years of work related experience. Students should obtain guidance on whether they meet this requirement from the OSHA Training Institute Edu-cation Center where they intend to receive the training. Authorized OSHA Outreach Training Program trainers are required to attend OSHA #502 Update for Construction Industry Outreach Trainers at least once every four (4) years to maintain their trainer status.

This course is designed for Outreach Training Program trainers who have completed OSHA #500 Trainer Course in Occupation-al Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry and are authorized trainers in the OSHA Outreach Training Program. The course provides an update on OSHA Construction Standards, policies, and regulations. Upon course completion students will have the ability to demonstrate continued pro-fessional development in their field by applying effective adult learning principles and interactive training techniques to clearly identify, define, and explain construction industry hazards and acceptable corrective measures as they continue to teach the 10- and 30-hour Construction Outreach Training Program classes.

Knowing when and how to properly safeguard machinery can reduce or eliminate the potential for accidents and injuries.

This course is intended to be an orientation to occupational safety and health. This 10-hour program will provide entry-lev-el industry workers with a broad awareness to recognize and prevent hazards and safety issues on a general industry site. Participants will receive an OSHA-10 completion card for attend-ing and completing the program.

The 30-hour General Industry Outreach Training Program is to provide people with some safety responsibility with a broad awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards on a gen-eral industry site. This course will provide an orientation and expansion of information as it relates to occupational safety and health. Participants will be made aware that workers must receive additional training on hazards specific to their job. The training covers a variety of safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a general industry site with an empha-sis on hazard identification, avoidance, control and prevention, not OSHA standards.

The 10-Hour Construction Outreach Program is to provide entry level construction workers a broad awareness on recognizing and preventing hazards on a construction worksite. The training covers a variety of safety and health hazards which a worker may encounter at a construction worksite. Emphasis is placed on OSHA’s Focused Four Hazards.
