– New galactic model formulation

– Roughness models fitted to reprocessed data and validated

– Stokes 3: optimisation of TEC retrieval, RFI

– Flags need improvement (better thresholds, simplification?)

– Hopefully reformulated OTT strategy:

– Reprocessed L2OS will be analysed following (or adapting) the SMOS L2 OS Product Performance Evaluation Plan (SO-PL-ARG-GS-0055 L2OS-PPEP_v4.1_110907):

– Priority 1• Range of retrieved SSS and deviation from climatology data• Regional variations• Land contamination• RFI detection & mitigation• Absolute accuracy of retrieved results; comparison with external sources• Quality fields and flags• Time stability of the results• Sun/moon glint and Galactic Noise• Tuning roughness models 1/2/3

– Issue new Product Performance Status Report

OS reprocessing analysis plan

Page 7: OS objectives for 2 nd mission reprocessing

SMOS QWG-7, ESRIN 31 Jan – 1 Feb 2012

– New galactic model formulation

• Don’t know possible impact on algorithm, then processor delivery

– Roughness models fitted to reprocessed data and validated

– Stokes 3: optimisation of TEC retrieval, RFI

• Don’t know possible impact on algorithm, then processor delivery

– Flags need improvement (better thresholds, simplification?)

– Hopefully reformulated OTT strategy:

• Full understanding of reprocessing OTTs

• Examining impact in SSS time series

• Review OTT update strategy in view of L1 improvements

• Status of multiplicative, model-free OTT investigation

Investigation for 2nd reprocessing

– And on top of this:

Expecting to see significant L1 improvements

Checked efficiency of different land/sea LO calibration rate
