THE KID OF THE YEAR

1 Who is Amanda Harris?

Amanda Harris is a kid who was chosen for the kid of the school year.

2 Who chose her for the title 'The Kid of the School Year'?

She was chosen for the kid of the school year by a survey done in OFK (Only for Kids) magazine, her school magazine.

3 Why was she chosen for the kid of the school year?

She was chosen because she is hardworking and because she is a very good person. She not only does well at school but also does some extra work out of school and helps her mum with the chores. She earns some extra money to help out her mum and to save some money.

4 With whom does she live?

She lives with her mum because her parents are divorced.

5 Has she got brothers or sisters?

No, she's an only child.

6 How does Amanda earn extra money and why?

Every morning before going to school she delivers the newspapers and in the afternoons after school she helps out in a shop.

7 How do Amanda and her mum split the chores?

Mum does the cooking, ironing and washing up and Amanda tidies up her room, does the hoovering and takes out the garbage.

8 Who does the shopping?

They do it together.

9 Does she get on well with her dad?

Yes, she does. She spends every second weekend with him.

10 Do you help out at home?

Yes, I do. ( If you do say what you do.) ILI No, I don't.

11 Compare Amanda's chores and extra work to what you do every day.

Example: I tidy up my room just like Amanda but I don't do the hoovering and I don't take out the garbage.

12 Do you think Amanda's life is hard?

Izražavanje Količine U Engleskom Jeziku

Izražavanje velike količine u engleskom jeziku

Much

Kada se koristi ispred imenice, „much“ uvijek dolazi uz nebrojive imenice u jednini.

How much money do you have? There is much salt left in the jar.

„Much“ ne mora uvijek stajati ispred imenice. Sigurno primjećuješ da ga koristimo u različitim frazama engleskog jezika, a uglavnom u ulozi količinskog priloga.

Page 28: os-jsizgorica-si.skole.hros-jsizgorica-si.skole.hr/.../images/static3/...1.docx  · Web viewschoolwork 18th september 2015. your world. nuisance- gnjavator. upstairs- ( gore)na katu

Thank you very much! As much as you want…

Many

„Many“ uvijek dolazi uz brojive imenice u množini.

I've been there many times. How many people have you seen?

Lots of / a lot of / a lot

„Lots of“ i „a lot of“ su količinski izrazi engleskog jezika koji imaju isto značenje, a koriste se ispred brojivih i nebrojivih imenica.

Lots of people visit Paris every year. A lot of people visit Paris every year. We had lots of fun. We had a lot of fun.

„A lot“ može značiti količinu ili učestalost. Ovaj oblik nikada ne dolazi ispred imenice! Obično ga nalazimo na kraju rečenice ili ispred pridjeva.

They dance a lot. She loves you a lot. He is a lot wiser than you might thought.

Numerous, A large number of

Mogu stajati ispred brojivih imenica u množini.

There are numerous sights to see in Dubrovnik. A large number of cultural monuments are found there.

Plenty of

There are plenty of flowers in my garden. I wish you plenty of joy!

Izražavanje male količine u engleskom jeziku

Page 29: os-jsizgorica-si.skole.hros-jsizgorica-si.skole.hr/.../images/static3/...1.docx  · Web viewschoolwork 18th september 2015. your world. nuisance- gnjavator. upstairs- ( gore)na katu

Little / A little

There's little water in the glass, it won't be enough for two of us. We are lucky, there's a little water in the glass. With a little help from my friends…

Not much

Stavlja se ispred nebrojive imenice u jednini.

There is not much water left in the bottle.

Few / A few

Ovi izrazi engleskog jezika mogu značiti malo ili nekoliko nečega. Koristimo ih uz brojive imenice u množini.

There are few good men in this room.

I u ovom slučaju jedno slovo a čini veliku razliku u značenju! Pogledaj primjere i uoči razliku!

There are only few chocolates left in the box, somebody ate the most. There are a few chocolates left in the box. Let's sweeten ourselves!

A small number of

Only a small number of people can say they are rich.

Izražavanje neutralne količine u engleskom jeziku

Some / Any

„Some“ i „any“ izražavaju ograničenu količinu nečega. „Some“ se koristi u potvrdnim rečenicama, dok se u upitnim i odričnim rečenicama engleskog jezika zamjenjuje s „any“. Koristimo ih ispred brojivih i nebrojivih imenica.

I've got some cookies and some wine. I haven't got any cookies, nor any wine. Have I got any cookies? Have I got any wine?

Page 30: os-jsizgorica-si.skole.hros-jsizgorica-si.skole.hr/.../images/static3/...1.docx  · Web viewschoolwork 18th september 2015. your world. nuisance- gnjavator. upstairs- ( gore)na katu

Enough

I've got enough money to buy that phone. I haven't got enough money to buy that phone. Have I got enough money to buy that phone? Do you have enough coins in your pocket?

Several / A number of

Several wild animals live in that ZOO. A number of wild animals live in that ZOO.

Most of the

We were sleeping most of the time. Most of people love to travel.

Both / Both of the

Kada se upotrebljava za izražavanje količine, tada „both“ označava dvoje, odnosno par nečega iste vrste. Koristi se ispred brojive imenice u množini.

Both sisters got married the same day.

Both men and women equally search for love.

All of the / None of the

„All of the“ možemo koristiti uz brojive i nebrojive imenice, dok se „none of the“ stavlja samo ispred brojivih imenica u množini.

All of the houses in my street were renovated recently.
