Kiefer continues, “Improved job prospects have started to drive those aged 25-34 back to the labor force, with 76.8 percent employed as of last month, up from 75.9 percent last year. That means more Americans have income available to purchase homes or save for a down payment.” Well, we can see that the economy is finally beginning to return to a healthy level, and we believe the future will be even brighter for our region. So, get out there and secure your piece of real estate, especially before those rates start going up! Make sure to seek a well-experienced real estate professional with a current license to help ensure that you make the best decision about your purchase.

This entire issue is packed full of fashion tips, the latest trends, and great articles and interviews, including Orlando Style’s conversation with Dan Aykroyd, interviewed at Vines Grille & Wine Bar on Sand Lake Road. As we remain an unmatched publication in our region, we continually try to raise the bar of publishing excellence. We welcome your input, comments, and critiques and ask that you continue to let us know how you are enjoying Orlando Style. Email us at [email protected] to share your thoughts, some of which we will soon begin to publish right here in our pages.

Here at Style Magazines, we continue to forge ahead with our efforts to support our fantastic advertisers, and we are so thankful for the loyal dedication of our advertising partners. We always strive to keep you, our readers, informed with Style!

Happy Mother’s Day to All Those Wonderful Mothers Out There!

spring is in full bloom in sunny Orlando, Florida and April proved to be yet another exciting month of fabulous events that were hosted right here in the City Beautiful. We’ve got all the best highlights for you, just in case you missed it, but first let’s quickly rewind back to March!

Not only is Orlando Style the #1 luxury lifestyle magazine in Central Florida, we’re also #1 at throwing parties! On March 27th we proved it yet again at the StyleFX Swimwear Fashion Show. It was a night of pure divas and fashionistas at the talked about event which was brought to you by Orlando Style and StyleFX VIP Events. The gorgeous, new Gilt Nightclub proved to be the perfect venue for the VIP evening. Guests at the event were treated to an unveiling of the hottest swimwear of the season featuring designs by Miss Fanatic, Shirl Clark Collection, Catarsis Swimwear and more. A high-energy fashion show got guests in the mood for summer and shone a spotlight on Florida’s top local designers and benefitted Fashion Funds a Cure. Attendees even had the opportunity to bring home their favorite swimsuit as each designer was given their own personal boutique space. Complimentary cocktails, passed hors d’oeuvres and live entertainment by DJ and host Scotty B were also provided throughout the unforgetable night.

The evening of Saturday, March 28th was a very magical night in the city of Orlando! The 25th Annual Orlando Magic Youth Foundation (OMYF) Black Tie & Tennies Gala was presented by Levy Restaurants and held at the Amway Center. Each year at the Gala, the OMYF honors a player who has dedicated his efforts off the court for the purpose of enhancing other’s lives. A panel of representatives named

the Orlando Magic’s Tobias Harris and Victor Oladipo co-winners of the prestigious 2014-2015 Rich & Helen DeVos Community Enrichment Award (CEA). In addition to receiving the award, Harris and Oladipo each were each granted $50,000 from the Richard and Helen DeVos Foundation to donate to the charity of their choice. The Gala’s highly anticipated events included a blue carpet roll out for more than 700 attendees, gourmet foods, plenty of photo opportunities and Victor Oladipo presenting the players and OMYF children who have benefited from the fund. Other highlights included karaoke singing and dancing, a live auction, locker room tours, a Super Sneaks competition and more. The Gala raised a total of $528,423 with matching funds at .50 on the dollar provided by the McCormick Foundation. All proceeds benefitted the OMYF. Congratulations Tobias and Victor!

Seeing as how April 8th was National Empanada Day, it’s only fitting that we talk about Cuba Libre Restaurant and Rum Bar’s month long Empanada celebration! While most of the country celebrates on just one day, Cuba Libre opted to extend their celebrations and have officially declared April to be Empanada Month. What better way to celebrate then with... empanadas! Cuba Libre did just that when they hosted an exclusive Empanada Making Class at the gorgeous restaurant located in Pointe Orlando. On April 23rd, Executive Chef Jose Gonzalez and the Cuba Libre Orlando team welcomed attendees from all over Orlando for an interactive, entertaining evening of empanada fun. Several different hands-on demonstration stations were set up throughout this unique event. At the stations, guests learned how to make empanadas and mix mojitos all while sipping on a variety of Cuba Libre’s signature rums. Complimentary tapas and refreshing

cocktails were also provided throughout the fantastic event.

Now in its 24th year, the Florida Film Festival is an Oscar®-qualifying festival, premiering the best in current, independent, and international cinema. From April 10th-19th, the beloved event returned to the Enzian Theatre for ten days of 170 films and first-class events. Throughout the the festival, film lovers mingled with filmmakers and celebrities over hand-crafted cocktails and a delicious menu at Eden Bar and inside the theatre. Nicknamed “the festival with a heart,” this year’s special guests and their featured films included Sam Rockwell featuring Moon and Bob Balaban featuring Gosford Park. In addition to the numerous film screenings, Enzian also celebrated the festival with several thrilling community events such as open forum film discussions and numerous festival parties. Orlando Style Magazine is pleased to be a proud sponsor of the Florida Film Festival!

On April 11th, hundreds of Central Florida women were treated to delicious food prepared by SeaWorld chefs, wine from Napa Valley, live entertainment and the best shopping at the 5th Annual Wine Women and Shoes event. The fundraising event, hosted by Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, was held at SeaWorld Ports of Call. Participants enjoyed shopping from local and national boutiques, live and silent auctions and a chance to win in the signature Key to the Closet raffle. MIX 105.1’s CJ Robinson kept the positive vibes going as emcee of this fabulous event. In addition to the shopping and live entertainment, attendees of the event also enjoyed an exclusive fashion show by Orlando-based fashion designer, Diana Kessler. Sponsored by Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, 100 percent of the ticket proceeds from this unique event went toward eradicating hunger in Central Florida.

Step aside Anna, there’s a few new princesses in town! The Princess Ball, hosted by the A. Jones Family Foundation, was held at the Orlando World Center Marriott on April 25th. The magical night celebrated the positive relationships between fathers and daughters while giving back to a local charity. The event featured entertainment from the Orlando Magic Dancers, Central Florida Ballet and pageant winners. Guests enjoyed food, photo booth fun, face painting, carriage rides, professional photography and many of the Princesses from our favorite fairy tale stories of course! A major highlight

of the evening was an elegant silent auction that features theme park tickets, golf outings, spa retreats, weekend getaways, unique entertainment experiences and other exciting items. Proceeds from this event go directly to support Florida Hospital for Children.

Universal Studios Annual Mardi Gras Grand Celebration first returned to Orlando in February and has kept the party going ever since with night after night of dazzling parades, more beads than your neck has room for and an amazing concert line-up of 16 different acts across every type of music genre. April’s concert highlights included notable stars Trey Songz, The Band Perry and The All American-Rejects. From pop to country to hip hop to rock, the concerts during Mardi Gras always offer an exciting mix of superstar performers, but that’s not all Mardi Gras had to offer! A magnificent Mardi Gras parade with incredible floats, vibrant costumes, 1.8 million beads, lively dancers and entertaining street performers proved that the spirit of Mardi Gras isn’t restricted to just the Big Easy. Guests were also sure to make their way to the French Quarter Courtyard for live music direct from New Orleans and authentic Cajun food like Spicy Jambalaya, Grilled Andouille Sausage, Shrimp Gumbo and more.

One of the most welcoming signs of spring is Epcot’s 22nd annual International Flower & Garden Festival! Throughout Epcot, over 100 topiaries featuring beloved Disney characters are currently on display. 70,000 bedding plants surrounding the Future World east and west lakes and 220 mini-gardens floating out on the water are just two examples of some of the gorgeous displays that are welcoming guests and completely transforming Epcot’s already beautiful grounds. Beginning in March and running all the way through May 17th, this signature springtime event is packed with special experiences for the whole family. Some of the 2015 festival highlights included: The tasting of savory seasonal foods at the Outdoor Kitchens around World Showcase, the Garden Rocks outdoor concert series, play zones for the kids, seminars hosted by Disney Horticulturists and garden experts, illuminated gardens at night and much more. If you missed out on the festival last month, you still have time to refresh your sense of spring! Head over to Epcot’s International Flower & Garden Festival before the 17th to join in on the fun.

out & about

it’s 10:00 pm on a gorgeous Tuesday evening and I’ve just stepped onto the private patio of one of Orlando’s most exquisite dining establishments, Vines Grille and Wine Bar. The only sounds filling the air are the hum of conversation and light background music that came in the form of a live jazz band playing inside the venue. Standing around an elongated dining table are a dozen men in black, sharp suits. At the center of the table is a Crystal Head Vodka Skull beautifully lit with a single LED light. As I scanned the room my eyes finally fell on him at the same time he let out his signature, unmistakable laugh. There in the corner, looking like he’s hardly aged a day, was Dan Aykroyd. As the camera-man and I set up for our interview, a gentlemen with the group comes over and says he’d like to introduce me to Dan. For several minutes Dan and I chat as the polite, stereotypically friendly Canadian joked about the awful weather back home while asking questions about my own recent trip to Canada as well as what I did for a living and where I was from. With kind, attentive eyes and the friendliest smile, you have no choice but to feel at ease when talking to Dan. Finally the cameras were rolling and it was time to sit down and interview one of Hollywood’s most brilliant actor, comedian and screenwriters.

I know I speak for many of us when I say that I’ve been so fortunate to have grown up with the opportunity to watch Dan Aykroyd in so many of my favorite films. From My Girl and Coneheads to The Blues Brothers and Ghostbusters, for over 40 years Dan Aykroyd has been entertaining us on the big screen and he has established a renowned name for himself in the acting industry to prove it. Now the busy entrepreneur is out to change the face of the vodka industry as well.

rP: Let’s talk about your multi-award winning vodka, Crystal Head. How did you set about creating one of the world’s purest vodkas?

DA: We just looked at the category and started to do research into what many lesser expensive brands have put into their vodka. We found out that a lot of additives are used.

Throughout my career I’ve always tried to do things a little better. Whether it’s directors, movies or television, I collaborate with the best people to do something better and I thought I could do something better in the vodka arena. We stripped out all the usual substances that are added and we came up with this idea to do a pure spirit. You can step up to a much cleaner, better beverage if you want to pay our premium price and we are a super premium category.

rP: Let’s talk about the design process. This skull is so one-of-a-kind and unique. What went into designing it?

DA: John Alexander—his work is owned by the Corcoran, the Smithsonian and the Museum of Fine Art in Houston—he is an old friend of mine and we were playing around with ideas for the bottle. He basically sketched this up in about two minutes on a napkin and I looked at it and I said this looks like the Mitchell Hedges skull which was referenced in the Indiana Jones movie. It’s the most beautiful of the 13 heads. There’s eight of them in the possession of mankind and five are missing. We replicated the Mitchell Hedges skull because it’s the most beautiful of all of them. It sells our idea of purity and clean drinking better than anything we could think of.

rP: You have won so many awards everything from Best Vodka to Best Luxury Spirit, you’re the official vodka of The

Rolling Stones, the list just goes on and on. How does it feel to have been so well received by the community?

DA: To get that medal in Moscow was vindication of what we’ve been doing and then our tasting notes are great. We won the World Spirits Competition in 2011 and our notes were sweet, vanilla, dry and crisp with a kick of heat off the finish. As a vodka maker I go, “Yep!” Sweet vanilla with peaches and cream corn that we use, dry and crisp with no

oils and then we don’t mask the alcohol so you get that little bit of fire on the tongue if you’re drinking it pure. It makes great cocktails. Bar chefs are into making better, cleaner products now so we offer the bar chefs and mixologists a zero additive, clean slate, blank virgin canvas with which to make cocktails.

Now what? Planning a wedding can be stressful, especially if you’re in the early preparation stages. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to begin: Pick out a venue? Look for a dress? Panic? Relax, we’ve compiled a checklist of the most important steps to take in the first 12-6 months before the big day. This helpful guide breaks down the essentials and will take some pressure off of the first few months of the planning process. We’ve also included some of our favorite local wedding vendors so breathe a sigh of relief, Orlando brides, and start planning!

By Kourtney Destefano

The Ultimate Bride Guide

Congratulations, you’re engaged!

12-10 months in adVance

Select the date. Choose a few backup dates as well, in case your first choice is already booked.

Start a wedding folder or spreadsheet to keep yourself organized, and decide whether or not you want to hire a wedding planner.

Figure out the budget. Setting your budget in the early stages is essential because you won’t be able to move forward with booking the vendors until you’ve determined how much you want to spend.

Begin a rough draft of the guest list and start to compile current addresses.

Pick your wedding party. Decide who you’d most like to have by your side at the altar including the maid of honor and the best man.

Select the venue and reserve the date! Choose whether or not you want to have separate locations for the ceremony and reception, factoring in travel time for the two locations. Here are some Orlando area venues to consider that’ll take your breath away:

• The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes

• Bella Collina

• Leu Gardens (perfect for those desiring a scenic outdoor wedding, with nearly 50 acres of landscaped grounds and lakes)

The moment you’ve been waiting for: time to start shopping for your wedding gown! Once you find the dress of your dreams, you should schedule several fittings in advance for when it gets closer to the big day. Check out these bridal shops and boutiques as you begin your search:

• Calvet Couture Bridal Boutique

• Minerva’s Bridal Salon (also has an outlet location in Orlando for the bride on a budget)

• Solutions Bridal (lovers of Marchesa and Kenneth Pool gowns, look no further!)

9-6 months in adVance

Now is the time to focus on selecting your vendors. It would be wise to begin your search sooner rather than later to make sure your first choices are available on your big day.

Meet with the caterer to do a tasting. If your wedding venue doesn’t offer its own catering

service, look for your own and hire the service as soon as possible. These are some of our favorite local caterers:

• Puff ‘n Stuff

• Arthur’s Catering and Events (has an extensive seafood menu for fish fanatics)

• Dubsdread Catering

Book the entertainment, whether it’s a band or a DJ, and find an officiant who will perform your ceremony. Map out the ceremony with the officiant and confirm all important documents you’ll need for the wedding (these vary by religion and county.)

Reserve a block of hotel rooms for out-of-town guests and book your own suite for the wedding night.

Take your bridal party shopping for their bridesmaid and flower girl dresses! Allow at least six months for the dresses to be ordered and sized.

Send out save-the-date cards. Select and order invitations, envelopes and thank-you cards. Hire a calligrapher if desired.

Begin looking for a photographer/videographer and make sure the people you hire are open to doing the type of shots you want.

Book the florist. Florists can serve multiple clients on the same day, which is why you can wait a little longer to select one. Plus, by this point you’ll know exactly what you want your color palette to be.

Take a deep breath, use this page as your guide and get ready to start planning the happiest day of your life!

what to wear

wHereweDDinG etiQuette 101

whether you’re attending a wedding yourself, helping out a friend, or picking something out for your guy, knowing what to wear to a wedding can be complicated and a bit overwhelming. Wedding attire etiquette is a thing and everyone should know the basics to wedding attire. For starters, you cannot, ever, wear white to a wedding! Thusly, here are a few tips on etiquette to keep in mind for your next wedding invitation.

Photos Courtesy of H&M

Black Tie Weddings

Black tie weddings are the most elegant of all weddings. It’s the perfect time to wear that gorgeous gown that has been patiently waiting for the opportunity to be worn. Such elegant events don’t come that often. Then again, this could also be an excuse to buy that beautiful dress you passed by last week!

Ladies: Since black tie weddings are the most elegant of affairs, evening gowns or very elegant cocktail dresses are a wonderful fit. Don’t be afraid to choose something beaded, embellished with sequins, or to splurge on the ultimate statement necklace.

Gentlemen: For black tie weddings, tuxedos are a must. A tux should go along with a white tuxedo shirt, a black skinny tie or bowtie, and black dress shoes. For warmer seasons, it would be best to go with suspenders rather than a vest and swap that white shirt for a bold color suitable for the occasion.

Winter Wedding

Lace or embroidered cocktail dresses, evening gowns, or long sleeved maxi dresses, if done well can bring you to the perfect combination of elegance and warmth. Black, ivory, olive, shades of red or even a light cocktail dress, can be paired with a fur coat, dramatic jewelry, and pair of pumps.

Men should look for darker tones and try out a tweed suit this winter. A white shirt can be paired with vest and dark or bold patterned tie. The suits should be well-fitted and for those very cold nights can be layered with a winter coat, a light cardigan or an elegant scarf.

Outdoor and Summer Wedding

Strictly outdoor or summer weddings tend to fall closer to the casual side of the fashion spectrum. Don’t misinterpret this with getting away with a beach dress and some flip flops. Outdoor weddings are still formal. These type of weddings are usually in the spring when the weather is warm. a delicate chiffon sundress, spring patterns, and pastels are perfectly suited for the outdoors. You should bring a pashmina or light cardigan for windy nights. Sandals are the way to go, in this case, we recommend to look for a pair of wedges since high heels can be tricky to walk in especially if it is at the beach.

A suit on the lighter side will work best for men. For such cases where attire should be casual but still maintain a formal look, a well-fitted khaki, ivory, light blue, or a light grey suit are suitable options. Combine a white, pastel, or lightly colored shirt with a colorful tie or bowtie, especially for a more fun and laidback environment. And when picking out a shoes, try going for those slipper-like loafers.

Whether it is the dead of winter or the midst of summer these wedding look tips and etiquette should inspire and help you get an idea for the next wedding you attend.

no blushing bride should have to worry about sucking in her tummy or hiding her muffin top on her wedding day. We know that with all the additional stress surrounding your big day, it’s difficult to make working out a top priority. Traditional sit-ups and crunches can get tedious, we get it. But the core is the centerpiece for any toned physique. Even though you’ll be turning heads in your gorgeous gown, why not kick it up a notch and blow your groom and guests away with a hard-earned, eye-catching midsection? We put together this mini bridal workout to melt your middle and help get you the tight core of your dreams just in time to walk down the aisle!

1. Bicycle Marathon

Lie on your back with your hands behind your head. Clasp your hands together with your elbows turned out. Bring your legs up to tabletop position and keep your lower abs tucked in. Exhale and curl the tops of your shoulder blades off the floor. Rotate your head and chest toward your left knee as you stretch your right leg out at a 45 degree angle. Hold and do tiny pulses toward your left knee. Keep your hips and legs steady and pulse 10 times. Continue to repeat on both sides, each time decreasing the number of pulses by one.

2. rope cliMB

Sit with your legs extended and your feet turned out in a V position with your toes pointed. Contract your core muscles and roll your spine into a curve that looks like a C. Lift your arms and move them like you were climbing a rope. Twist slightly each time you reach. Do 20 reaches per arm.

3. Standing Knee tucK

Stand with your feet together. Lift your left leg straight back, hinging forward at hips, reaching your hands forward by the ears. Keep your hips level and your body straight from hands to heel. Using your abs, draw your left knee into your chest and bend your elbows to pull your arms down to your knee. Return to the previous position and repeat the exercise, lifting your right leg straight back this time. Do each leg five times. If you need to simplify the exercise, hold onto a chair with one hand.

4. Side Balance crunch

Begin with your left knee and left hand on the floor, with your right arm straight up. Extend your right leg so your body forms a straight line. Pull your right knee toward your torso and your right elbow toward your knee. Straighten your arm and leg. Repeat ten times, then switch sides.

5. pilateS

For a fun workout that caters to your core, attend a pilates class with your bridesmaids. Pilates is a great way to tone because it targets the deepest muscles of the core that pull in the stomach and narrow the waist. Not only does Pilates help you sculpt your stomach, it also acts as a great stress reliever. The workout allows you to leave the troubles of the day behind, as you use the class to focus on yourself and your breathing.

As always, check with your doctor before starting any new exercise regimen.

right now it seems that every health fanatic has a green drink in their hand! Juicing and blending seems to be a trend that is all the rage right now with health enthusiasts today! Probably because of the numerous health benefits and the amazing feeling the mind and body receive once you have begun the process of eating clean. Who doesn’t want to have healthier skin, a healthier body, and a better digestive tract? In order to choose which is best for you, let’s take a closer look at the true benefits of juicing and blending for better health:

Many people do not know that 95% of the vitamins and enzymes our body needs are found in the juice of raw fruit and vegetables. Many may ask, what is the difference between juicing and blending? Juicing is a process which extracts water and nutrients

from produce and discards the indigestible fiber. Meaning, juicers literally separate the liquid matter from the solid. While on the other hand, blending unlike juices, consists of the entire fruit and/ or vegetable including the skin of the produce which contains the fiber and pulp. Blenders simply breaks apart the entire produce material or ingredients. Blending fruits and vegetables requires a lesser amount of solid food and these smoothie drinks usually give the body a satisfied and full feeling as a meal due to the high fiber content.

Juice drinks can be consumed before a meal or as a snack, because they are not as filling. This also provides the body with faster benefits and gives the nutrients time to

tHe BeNeFItS OF JUiCing & BlEnDing Juice and Blend your way to a healthier and happier you

By Christina Nicholson

enter the bloodstream more immediately. In comparison to solid foods, we would have to eat nearly two pounds of carrots, ten apples, and eight pounds of spinach to have the same nutrients in a sixteen ounce juice drink. While drinking a highly concentrated vitamin and enzyme drink rather than eating the pounds of solid food, the digestive organs are able to have a break and rest. The best time to drink juice is early in the morning on an empty stomach. This will help the body absorb more nutrients before a solid meal. Once juice meets the air it will begin the oxidizing phase which will not be as nutritional in value as a fresh juice drink. (If you do choose to store your juice in the refrigerator, make sure the jar or container is tightly sealed so air does not enter the container.)

Blended smoothies main benefit guarantees high fiber and the satisfaction of feeling full longer. Another major benefit to blending is the time and money saver. The concoction of a blended smoothie takes a significantly less amount of time, simply place the produce in the blender, drink, and a meal is consumed in minutes. Also, you will be consuming the entire produce and not throwing majority to waste. The blending option is great for the busy morning person that needs to have a nutritional breakfast before rushing out the door! Smoothies are also whole foods. Proper nutrients in these whole foods are beneficial as eating a whole meal, it’s just faster, and in addition the high fiber content in smoothies absorbs sugar in a healthy level. If you are a fitness guru, blended smoothies will be better for you before a long run or an intense lifting session at the gym. In addition to fruits and vegetables, protein powder, peanut butter, and other protein boosting ingredient may be added to a smoothie drink for additional nutrients and muscle aiding deliciousness!

All in all, there is no scientific evidence that extracted juices are better for you than eating the fruit or vegetable itself. The main benefit however, we can combine fruits and vegetables in one drink that we would not normally eat together in a meal and get that extra dose of vitamins naturally.

Whether you choose to juice to a healthier you, or blend smoothies for a meal, or do both -- you are still nourishing your body with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants for short term and long term health benefits.

As always, check with your doctor before starting a new diet regimen.

rolls-royce Motor Cars has brought Serenity to this year’s Geneva International Motor Show, unveiling the new standard in authentic, bespoke luxury motoring to the world’s media.

Showcasing the tireless efforts of the Bespoke designers and craftspeople at the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood to “Take the best that exists and make it better,” Serenity introduces a completely new level of individualised luxury applied to a Rolls-Royce Phantom – already considered by owners and admirers alike to be “the Best Car in the World.”

Sir Henry Royce’s maxim, “When it does not exist, design it,” inspired the latest generation of Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke designers to ask what wholly new approach to luxury would delight the most demanding and exacting people in the world – Rolls-Royce customers. Their answer came from Rolls-Royce’s deep understanding of the most precious, beautiful and natural materials.

Silk would prove to be the route to a new definition of luxury, one that guarantees every customer a canvas for completely unique design, every time.

The marque’s Bespoke Design team took inspiration from the opulent interiors of Rolls-Royces that have conveyed Kings and Queens, Emperors and Empresses and world leaders. Add to this, contemporary interpretations of furniture design combined with Japanese Royal robe motifs and Rolls-Royce designers have delivered a truly innovative, thoroughly modern and tranquil Rolls-Royce interior.

Delivering authentic modern luxury, Serenity reintroduces the finest of textiles – silk – to create the most opulent interior of any luxury car. This unique design demonstrates the levels of craftsmanship, creativity and attention to detail only Rolls-Royce Motor Cars can offer.

More than ever, Bespoke is Rolls-Royce.

“Having revisited the history of the amazing interiors of the elite Rolls-Royce’s of the early 1900’s, we felt inspired to share this heritage with our new customers in a very contemporary way,” comments Giles Taylor, Director of Design at Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

The choice of Phantom for this project was obvious, but creating the motif that would define this most opulent and modern of automotive interiors would require considerable new expertise.

Cherica Haye and Michelle Lusby, both Textile Arts graduates from the Royal College of Art and Plymouth University respectively, joined Rolls-Royce’s Bespoke Design department to help realise the direction of the core motif for this magnificent one-off Phantom.

“Some of the most opulent silk motifs come to us from the Orient, where imperial families’ and rich merchants’ robes were made from the finest silk materials,” comments Lusby.

The ultimate example of the most opulent robe design became the junihitoe, a highly complex handmade ‘twelve-layer robe’ of silk worn only by female Japanese courtiers. The

colours and the arrangements of the layers were very important, with the colours given poetic names such as ‘crimson plum of the spring’.

In addition, during the Japanese Edo period (1615-1868), the merchant and artisan classes commissioned beautiful clothes to demonstrate their wealth and good taste. Clothing developed into a highly expressive means of personal display, an important indicator of rising affluence and aesthetic sensibility.

A new aesthetic known as iki, or elegant chic, meant anyone with real taste focussed on subtle details, whilst those with style and money found ways to circumvent rules that forbade the use of certain colours, such as red, by applying them to undergarments and linings.

“The rear compartment of a Phantom is the most tranquil, beautiful place to be, a place where time and the outside world simply slip past,” says Haye. “This tranquillity made us think of the Oriental tradition where Emperors would take to their private gardens to reflect in solitude under the blossom trees. The blossom motif is one that is cherished in Far Eastern culture and has been beautifully applied to Royal robe design over the centuries. We felt it was the perfect representation of tranquillity and serenity for a beautiful modern interior from Rolls-Royce.”

packed with superpowers, guavas are gaining more attention in the medical world. Guava (Psidium Guajava L.) is a tropical tree indigenous to Central and South America, but has become naturalized in Florida. Here you’ll find two types of guava fruit: The pink pulp and the white pulp variety. Rich in vitamin C, vitamin A, and antioxidants, a guava a day may keep wrinkles away. Moreover, studies show adding guavas to your diet may regulate blood pressure. And that’s not all! From managing and preventing diabetes to aiding fertility in women, guava may prove to be the ultimate superfood.

“Does this mean I can eat as many pastelitos de guayaba as I want?” No. Although this delish Cuban pastry can satisfy a sweet tooth, one serving packs 260 calories and 18 grams of fat. In order to benefit from the power of guava, you’ll want to eat it raw. Next time you reach for a banana or an orange, why not grab a guava instead? One fruit (55 grams) contains 37 calories, 1 gram of fat, and 1 gram of protein. Plus, one guava provides more potassium than a banana and has more vitamin C than an orange. This makes guava a great addition to your next salad.

According to the Medicinal & Aromatic Plants journal, guava leaves, pulp and seed have been used to treat various ailments, especially respiratory and gastrointestinal disorders. In a 2012 study published in Journal of Diabetes Mellitus, researchers

found that guava could play a role in the management of diabetes and in the prevention of vascular complications. Studies have also shown that a higher intake of potassium-rich foods helps keep your muscles in check. These foods defend against

the loss of muscle mass and help burn fat. In one cup of guava (165 grams), you’ll find 688 milligrams of potassium, or 20% daily value. High in fiber (8 grams per fruit), guavas keep you full longer. By including this tropical fruit in a high-fiber diet, it may help you reach your weight-loss goals. A recent study published in Annals of Internal Medicine suggests that eating 30 grams of fiber daily can help trim your waistline, lower blood pressure, and improve your body’s response to insulin. Also, guavas are cholesterol free.

Foods rich in vitamin C help in collagen production and protect the skin from free radical damage. One guava contains 126 milligrams of vitamin C, or 209% daily value. The guava leaf, however, has more potent free radical scavenging properties. In a study published in the Food Chemistry journal, researchers found a “linear relationship between antioxidant potency, free radical-scavenging ability and the content of phenolic compounds of guava leaf extracts.” No wonder guava leaf tea and the topical use of guava leaves have been part of traditional medicine.

For women trying to boost their fertility levels, they may want to add guava to their diet. The tropical fruit contains 27 micrograms of the fertility-boosting vitamin. Studies show a diet that includes folate-rich foods not only aids fertility, but it also safeguards the health of the unborn baby.

You’ll find plenty of more reasons to love this super food. As with many healthful foods, however, consuming too many guavas could prove hurtful to your health. Guavas do contain fructose, which can be harmful in excess amounts. And, as always, you should discuss with your physician and/or dietician if adding guava to your diet would prove beneficial for your specific health goals.

among the top 10 Common Dental problems, bad breath was rated #1. Here are the 10 most common dental problems; 1.Bad Breath, 2. Tooth Decay, 3. Gum Disease, 4. Oral Cancer, 5. Mouth Sores, 6.Tooth Erosion, 7. Tooth Sensitivity, 8. Toothaches, 9. Dental Emergencies,10. Unattractive Smile.

Today I’m going to discuss bad breath; also called halitosis which can be downright embarrassing. According to dental studies, about 85% of people with constant bad breath have a dental condition that is the blame. Gum disease, cavities, oral cancer, dry mouth, and bacteria on the tongue all can cause bad breath. Also; medical conditions can cause bad breath. Ketoacidosis occurs in diabetics when there is insufficient glucose in the blood for the body to use as energy. An obvious sign of this is a fruity-smelling odor in the breath. People with eating

disorders may experience bad breath, as well as frequent dieters. Breath will have a fishy smell or smell of urine or ammonia in people with chronic kidney failure. Sinusitis, which is very prevalent here in Florida, can cause bad breath. So you can see there are various conditions that can contribute to bad breath. Using mouthwash to cover up bad breath only masks the odor and does not cure the problem. So how do I know I have bad breath? Here’s a simple technique; lick the back of your hand, let it dry and smell that.

The following guidelines will help you eliminate or reduce your bad breath :

1. Brush your teeth and floss everyday; especially after meals that may contain food or spices that contribute to bad breath. Brushing your tongue will help in getting rid of bacteria that can get trapped in the tiny hair-like fibers on the tongue.

2. Visit your dentist on a regular basis to insure there are no cavities or underlying gum disease.

3. An easy way to prevent bad breath is to chew parsley after a meal. Parsley contains chlorophyll, which happens to be a known breath freshener.

4. One can place a few drops of tee tree oil or peppermint oil on your tongue or a few drops on your toothbrush along with the toothpaste to freshened your breath.

5. Avoid foods that cause bad breath; garlic, onions, cabbage, certain spices, and coffee.

6. Smoking causes bad breath also so quitting has much more beneficial effects than having better smelling breath.

7. Xerostomia or dry mouth is a major factor when it comes to bad breath. Sip water throughout the day and during meals. Chew sugar- free gum or dissolve sugar-free candy slowly in your mouth to increase saliva flow.

8. Avoid traditional mouthwashes. Most are loaded with alcohol which can cause dry mouth. These mouthwashes also create an environment that bacteria love.

9. Occasionally use a mixture of 50% hydrogen peroxide and 50% water as a mouth rinse. Hydrogen peroxide will help kill the bacteria that cause bad breath.

10. Finally the use of commercially marketed breath freshening kits and bad breath remedies may help prevent bad breath however there is insufficient research that has shown a cure for bad breath. Always ask your dentist or pharmacist before you invest in these products.

I hope these simple suggestions will help you insure that your breath is pleasing and if not that it makes you aware that there could be an underlying problem. Remember not having pain does not mean there is no disease or pathology. If in doubt see your dental team. My best patient is the one I educate.

From scrubbing hotel floorsin Australia to walking the Grammy Red Carpet, hip-hop beauty Iggy Azalea has personified the age-old truth that hard work pays off.

Born to an Australian family as Amethyst Amelia Kelly, Azalea was always captivated by an understanding that her life awaited beyond the boundaries of her small hometown. The place she called home was a house that her father built by hand, yet the fact that her lifestyle was founded upon hard work and a determined spirit only motivated Azalea all the more. As an artist and painter, Azalea’s father cultivated within his daughter an appreciation for the arts, encouraging her to study painting and music as a teenager. Azalea’s love for art flourished into a passion for rap music, and she began rapping at age 14, forming a female hip-hop group with girls from her neighborhood. Unlike most of the girls in her circle of friends, Azalea took her passions seriously, and decided to set her sights on bigger opportunities for success. Knowing her chances were far better in the United States, Azalea dropped out of high school and made the distant move at the age of 16. With money saved from cleaning hotel rooms, she began a life on her own in Miami. However, the young artist soon learned that the American dream did not come free; Azalea worked her way into the Miami music scene with little money in her pocket and fuel from her spirit. These experiences in Miami serve as the background for Azalea’s song, “Work,” which is perhaps the best word to define Azalea’s life. Her teenage years were spent trying to make an impossible future out of an invisible past; the line “No money, no family/ 16 in the middle of Miami,” is a bleak yet honest truth of Azalea’s presence at the time. In her

eyes, working was the only to the top, and Azalea assured herself that she could make a name for herself in America’s music world based on her work alone. After traveling from city to city, Azalea was approached by an employee of Interscope Records and, taking his advice, decided to move to Los Angeles in 2010. She released her first full-length project, Ignorant Art, a year later, but it was not given the critical or public acclaim that Azalea felt her work deserved. In December of the same year, she revealed that her first debut studio album

would be released once she found the right major record label to produce her music. But this decision-making process did not slow Azalea down from keeping herself in the running for one of the world’s favorite new artists. While beginning the writing and production for her debut album, Azalea became the opening act for pop singer Rita Ora’s United Kingdom tour, continuing to gain fans from all over the world. Released on April 21, 2014 by Island Records in the United States, Azalea’s debut album, The New Classic, broke ground as one of the most anticipated albums of the

year. With this album, Azalea proved herself to be not only a hardworking talent, but also one of the most relevant pop icons of the present. The New Classic produced five singles, including the lead single, “Work,” which charted at number 17 in the UK music charts and eventually climbed its way up in Australia as well as the United States. Azalea also released the songs “Bounce” and “Change Your Life” from the album, but no song made a splash quite like her fourth hit. The fourth single, “Fancy,” became an instant international success, reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Featuring singer Charli XCX, “Fancy” became the first number one for Azalea, remaining at the top for seven consecutive weeks. With seven million copies digitally sold, it has become one of the best-selling singles of all time. With success from singles like “Fancy,” the 24-year-old rapper has learned that hard work can truly transform a life—even the life of a poor Australian girl with dreams bigger than her horizons. But Azalea has never forgotten the past that gave her the strength to work her way to the present; she even took her stage name from her life back in Australia. Her childhood dog, named Iggy, and the street of her family home, Azalea Street, will forever be remembered in the namesake of Iggy Azalea. There is even more music to come from this international icon, and, this summer, be sure to hear her latest single, “Pretty Girls,” a highly-anticipated duet with Britney Spears set to release this month. Azalea may be sharing the music world with the female pop stars of our day, yet not many others can feel the accomplishment of success quite like Azalea. She has worked for it.

her the strength to work her way to the present”

aging is something we are all going to do, although some of us better than others. No one seems to understand this more than some of Hollywood’s biggest stars who simply can’t afford to get walked over by the march of time. Two months ago we showed you some of the hottest male celebs over 50, but as much as I enjoy drooling over John Stamos and Lenny Kravitz, it’d be a crime not to show my gracefully aging ladies some love! From good genes to good docs, these gorgeous women over 50 are kicking time in the face and proving that drinking from the fountain of youth isn’t just reserved for Hollywood’s leading men.

Sandra Bullock, 50At the top of the countdown is America’s sweetheart, Sandra Bullock. It’s unbelievable to think Bullock is turning 51 this year when the brunette beauty could easily still pass for 30s. In the 2013 film Gravity, Bullock proved she had a body to rival someone half her age as she floated around in a pair of shorts and a tank top. At 50 years old, the Miss Congeniality actress simply looks amazing, but that appearance doesn’t come without some hard work! Six days a week Bullock works out with trainer Simone De La Rue. For an hour, she does a combination of dance, strength-training, yoga and Pilates. In addition to keeping that body looking fabulous, she also credits the use of anti-aging cream to keep her face young and fresh. She’s been entertaining us for over 25 years already, but with looks like that, I’m sure they’ll be many more years of Bullock entertainment to look forward to.

Sela Ward, 58According to actress Sela Ward, “There isn’t one person out there that’s over 50 -- or 47, for that matter -- who looks fabulous that hasn’t had some help, whatever it is.” By her own admission, Ward has confessed to the use of botox and many experts believe that other plastic surgery procedures might also be under her belt. Whatever is responsible for Ward’s youthful appearance, all I have to say to her is keep doing what you’re doing girl because you look fab-u-lous! Despite the fact that the actress is almost 60 years old, Ward looks like she hasn’t aged a day. Her forehead is wrinkle-free while her facial skin looks smooth, toned and virtually flawless. Even deeper than her outward beauty is the inner beauty of Wards compassionate heart. In 2002, she opened an emergency shelter for children needing placement in foster homes in her beloved hometown of Meridian, Mississippi. From NBC’s long-running Sisters to CSI: NY, we hope Ward continues to bring her timeless beauty and incredible acting skills to our TV screens this year and in future years to come.

Iman, 59This July, Iman Mohamed Abdulmajid, professionally known as Iman, turns 60 years old. With her flawless, youthful appearance, the stunning Somalian beauty doesn’t look like she has spent even close to half a century on this planet, but this fashion icon is much more than just a pretty face. Iman is also noted for her charitable work and is a spokesperson for the Keep a Child Alive program, which provides much-needed medication to families and children in the developing world. Yves Saint Laurent’s muse and “dream woman” is also credited with helping to revolutionize the beauty industry for women of color. In the 1970s, she was one of the first African-born women to conquer the modeling industry. A pioneer in the field of ethnic cosmetics, Iman is also the CEO of IMAN Cosmetics, Skincare, and Fragrances, a line geared toward women of color. David Bowie’s gorgeous wife says, “Feeling beautiful isn’t about a trend or a particular look. It’s about treating yourself fabulously. No matter your age or your skin tone, you’ve got to love the skin you’re in.” Easy to say when your skin is that radiant, Iman!

Christie Brinkley, 61With her thick blond locks, killer body and glowing skin, it’s tough to believe Christie Brinkley is 61 years old. Brinkley became a household name when she landed the cover of Sports Illustrated’s famed Swimsuit Issue for three consecutive years from 1979-1981. She was one of the industry’s original supermodels and decades later she is still just as gorgeous as ever. The stunning model, actress and mother doesn’t just look good for her age, she looks good for any age! Brinkley works hard to maintain her good looks by modeling her routine after that of her own mother whom she refers to as the “original health nut.” Christie’s latest venture was the development of her own skincare line, Christie Brinkley Authentic Skincare. The line offers efficient products that work to recapture your skin’s youthful appearance. I’ve always been a little skeptical when it comes to age-defying creams, but anyone who looks that amazing at 61 can sell me whatever they want!

Meryl Streep, 65A Hollywood icon for more than 40 years, the multiple-Oscar-winning Meryl Streep has hardly aged at all. Despite being in her mid 60s, the ravishing star has continued to play a leading lady in numerous romantic flicks and refuses to accept that there are no good roles for women over 40. In 2009, Streep starred as both Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin’s love interest in It’s Complicated. Then, at 62, Streep also appeared for the first time on the cover of Vogue and declared herself the oldest person to do so. In 2012’s Hope Springs, Streep plays a 60ish woman hoping to spice things up in her marriage to Tommy Lee Jones. So what’s her secret and how does this 65 year old keep up that youthful, gorgeous physique? Streep says she swims three or four times a week, logging up to 55 laps at a time. As for her lovely skin, Streep credits that to her dislike of the sun and opposition to plastic surgery. Perhaps her best weapon in the battle against time, however, is her positive attitude on aging and her belief that we need to embrace getting older. At the end of the day, understanding and accepting this is Meryl’s true secret to aging gracefully.

The island of Eleuthera belongs to the Bahamas, and is located 50 miles east of Nassau. It is long and thin – at 110 miles long and in places, a little more than 1 mile wide. With a population of about 8,000 people, Eleuthera is quiet, private, and untouched in its natural Caribbean state. When I first landed at the Lynden Pindling International Airport, Nassau’s largest airport, I wasn’t sure what to expect when boarding my Southern Air flight to the tiny Eleuthera landing strip. During the short flight, I knew I was in for an extraordinary experience as I looked down to the majestic island surrounded by aquamarine Caribbean water. The Eleuthera airport is no bigger than a standard single family home, but consists of a staff willing and able to assist from the moment I stepped off the plane.

The most important aspect of traveling to an island for a peaceful and private getaway is choosing the perfect lodging accommodations. Since Eleuthera is still widely unheard of to the general population, there aren’t many hotels, and there probably never will be to

keep its private island feel. However, there are several condominiums and vacation homes available to rent by the week. Pulling up to my condominium felt like a dream come true – my own private home in paradise. Located on Queen’s Highway in Governor’s Harbour, The Buttonwood Reserve consists of eight condominiums built atop a 45-foot ridge. Its elevated stage makes for incredible views out over both the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. The spacious condominiums at Buttonwood Reserve offer 1,200 square feet of interior living space, 400 square feet of ocean-view decks and a golf cart garage. The master bedrooms feature magnificent panoramic views of the Caribbean, king-sized bed, and are equipped with an en-suite full bath. Master bedrooms also have a private door leading to the deck with stunning views, perfect for honeymooners or couples seeking a romantic getaway.

The best part about staying at The Buttonwood Reserve is that I felt like royalty - I never wanted to leave my condo. However, there’s a lot of the island to discover and

i’m staring out the window

of a 10-12-passenger tour van traveling south for

almost 2 hours. By the looks of it, it seems like we

are on the road to nowhere. Gliding down a one-

lane street with nothing around but tropical trees

and a warm ray of sunlight streaming through the

window and onto my skin, I try to relax and remind

myself that I’m on vacation in a place I’ve never

been before. Upbeat reggae music is playing low

on the van’s radio as the tour guide, a native Ba-

hamian, ensures that where we are headed is well

worth the long drive. “Lighthouse Beach is the most

beautiful beach in the world,” he claims. “That’s

a bold statement, sir,” I responded. I thought to

myself, “With all the extraordinary beaches in the

world, there’s no way this beach, on the tiny island

of Eleuthera, is the most beautiful.” Little did I

know - he was right.

luckily, each condo offers a golf cart and bicycles to guests for easy transportation to and from the Caribbean Seaside to the Atlantic Ocean with private, three-mile pink-sand beaches. On a day I just wanted to stay on the Buttonwood Reserve property, I enjoyed a resort-style pool just steps from my front door. Barbeque grills and large kitchens are available for guests to host their own cookouts and dinner parties. To dine out, Buttonwood Reserve is situated near several of the island’s most popular restaurants, including Pascale’s Seafood Restaurant and Pool Bar at Sky Beach Club, The Deck, and Rainbow Inn.

From dune buggy excursions, to exploring marine life on a boat tour, Eleuthera is an ecotourism wonderland waiting to be explored and enjoyed. I’m a native Floridian and have spent more than enough time in and around the ocean, however, when Fishbone Tours’ Captain Julius “Bubba” Rankine took us out on his boat into the perfect, crystal clear Caribbean water, I can assure you that I’ve never seen anything like it before.

It was so mystical that I couldn’t resist jumping off the boat right into the water. Along the journey with Captain Julius, the tour included viewing starfish, snorkeling, reef fishing, reef snorkeling, mangrove hunt, and picking out our own conch from a conch garden, which we turned into fresh conch salad on board as an afternoon snack.

There’s plenty of beach that surrounds the island, but as the tour guide stated, there is no other beach in the world as beautiful as Eleuthera’s very own Lighthouse Beach. Both of the two most beautiful Bahamas beaches, Lighthouse Beach and adjacent Lighthouse Bay are located at the southern most tip of Eleuthera. Also known as Lighthouse Point Eleuthera. Lighthouse Point Bay’s majestic rocks and cliffs sit atop pink sands and crystal blue waters that appear to be too beautiful to be real. Climb up the rocks for the best views or lay on the sand at the shoreline to soak in this tropical oasis.

Whether you’ve traveled to Eleuthera before, or never heard of it, I could confidently say

that there is no other place like it in the world. Especially for those planning a wedding, honeymoon, or just a romantic getaway, Eleuthera is an ideal destination because of its privacy, intimacy and natural, untouched beauty. There are no shopping centers on Eleuthera, no crowds, and no traffic. The Queen’s Highway is Eleuthera’s only paved road and is a two-lane country road on which you can drive for miles without seeing another car. Needless to say, there is little need for a map, and on an island less than a mile wide for long stretches, you’re never far from the beach. Drift away to an island of rolling green hills, sleepy villages, and 60 miles of deserted beaches.

For more information about planning a trip to Eleuthera, visit the Buttonwood Reserve website: www.buttonwoodreserve.com, or Bahamas.com/islands/Eleuthera.

You can put a pricetag on renovations, but you’ll never be able to appraise the value of an authentic Florida vacation. Especially not the relaxing, rejuvenating and rewarding vacation you’ll experience at the newly transformed, Naples Grande Beach Resort. In January, the resort completed $18 million renovations that included a redesign of all 424 tower guestrooms and suites, three new restaurants, beach and pool area renovations and more. I had the pleasure of experiencing the result of this impressive “facelift” during a weekend stay at the beautiful property.

Naples Grande has 474 coastal inspired and designed guestrooms including 29 gulf view suites and 50 bungalow suites. Upon entering my own guestroom, I was immediately taken aback by my private balcony with gorgeous, breathtaking views of the Gulf. How lucky am I to have a room with such a large private patio and astonishing balcony view, I thought. It wasn’t too long afterwards that I realized I wasn’t as special as I thought! During a leisurely stroll and tour of the property, I soon learned that the Naples Grande Beach Resort is the only hotel in the entire city that can boast a private patio and balcony for each and every single guestroom. Despite the numerous offerings for exquisite dining at all hours of the day, there was nothing

I enjoyed more than simply ordering breakfast via the resort’s fantastic room service, laying back on the balcony patio furniture and enjoying my meal as the sun kissed my skin and the Gulf breeze gently blew through my hair.

As I mentioned, Naples Grande has quite the impressive list of on-site restaurants and bars.

On the first night of our stay at the resort, my companions and I treated ourselves to dinner at The Catch of the Pelican. With a specialty in premium steaks and local seafood such as snapper and grouper, you’ll be at a loss for choices upon picking up the restaurant’s extensive menu. A relaxed, yet sophisticated setting provided us with the perfect location to unwind after a busy, but fantastic day. We feasted on a selection of foods crafted with locally grown produce and featuring a variety of vibrant flavors from the Gulf Coast. Our next dining experience came in the form of lunch at Rhode’s End, Naple Grande’s new Mediterranean beach restaurant. The beach bar and grill serves lunch and dinner with Mediterranean style dishes like grilled octopus salad, hummus and pita, feta flatbreads, fried baby squid and burgers with tzatziki sauce. The light breeze, beachfront setting and stunning

Gulf of Mexico views kept us seated and chatting long after our plates had been cleared away by the friendly staff.

What is a resort vacation without a little pamper time? Naples Grande’s luxurious spa proved to be the perfect place for just that. The spa encompasses four pavilions and features 12 treatment rooms, including a Spa Villa with a soaking tub, whirlpool bath, sundeck and patio. I opted for a 50-Minute deep tissue massage which turned out to be just as wonderful as it sounds. After being spoiled by the spa staff, a refreshing dip may be in order at one of Naples Grande’s three heated outdoor pools. The Mangrove Pool is a thrill for every member of the family with its breathtaking waterslide twisting 100 feet around a rock tower through landscaped waterfalls. Guests looking for a more secluded pool for some relaxing laps or water aerobics would enjoy the Hibiscus Hideaway pool, neatly tucked between the Garden Villa courtyards. My personal favorite was the adults-only Palm Terrace. My companion and I spent the better part of the afternoon at the sparkling pool inside one of their many private cabanas that come equipped with a dining table for four, a flat screen TV and personal refrigerator. A butler service that includes refreshing snacks and drinks from The Gulf Coast Oasis surf-shack themed pool bar was also available and taken much advantage of during our wonderful time at the pool.

With all that I experienced during my fabulous weekend, I think every guest at the resort would agree with me when I say that Naples Grande could easily stop their renovations today and be far more than just “ahead” of the competition. However, the resort has continued its pursuit for perfection by recently announcing an extensive renovation of the Naples Grande Golf Club. Highly acclaimed and designed by Rees Jones, the 18-hole, 6,955-yard, par 72 course is located just minutes from the resort and set among a lush landscape of native Florida pine hammocks, live oak, grand cypress trees, and brilliant water. A brand new clubhouse is a key highlight of the project along with significant improvements to the course including a complete fairway re-grass and tee renovation which kicks off in June. Golf club members and hotel guests can expect to tee off on the newly re-grassed course by September with the new clubhouse set to be unveiled in the first quarter of 2016. The 13,500 square-foot facility will feature Tuscan architectural

design and provide various luxury amenities including stately locker rooms, a full-service dining room and bar, a separate 6,500 square-foot golf cart storage facility and more.

Naples Grande Beach Resort’s gorgeous property is surrounded by 200 acres of a protected mangrove estuary intertwined with a system of bridges and elevated walking paths that afford access to three miles of beachfront on the Gulf of Mexico. One of the most memorable experiences from my stay took place on my final morning when I went for a light jog along the resort’s gorgeous nature walk. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking and my words on this paper will never do it justice. Naples Grande Beach Resort’s Asset Manager and General Manager Hans Schmitt has said, “Our goal is to provide

guests with an upscale, intimate and effortless Floridian experience.” I think it’s safe to say Naples Grande has done a masterful job of achieving just that. There’s still so much left for me to experience that I know another trip is due in the very near future. From paddle boarding on the beach to a high-intensity tennis match on one of the resort’s 15 award-winning courts… all of this can take place without ever stepping foot off property. Once you do decide to venture into the city you’ll quickly see that you are in walking distance of the renowned Waterside Shops, Southwest Florida’s most luxurious shopping mall and much more. Go ahead and experience all this and more for yourself ! Make time today to plan your next vacation to the bigger, newer and better, Naples Grande Beach Resort.

Your reception is set, your colors are selected so what’s next? A signature cocktail can add a touch of glamour and personalization to your reception. Signature cocktails can be personalized a number of ways. It can be the cocktail you both shared on your first date, a cocktail that matches the colors of the wedding or if you both went to college in Georgia, for example, it might be a cocktail that reminds the two of you of biting into the sweetest, juiciest Georgia Peach.

Think of a signature cocktail as one more special touch to make your wedding day memorable. How do you even create a cocktail that’s all yours? Work with your caterer on the recipe, and call on your party planner to help with the look.

Seri Kertzner of Little Miss Party Planner suggests paper flourishes that will go with it: Paper straws with die-cut flags, kraft-paper sleeves (if you’re serving hot apple cider), letterpress coasters, custom stirrers, and specialty cocktail napkins. “We love incorporating signature

cocktails at all of the events we produce,” she says. “Especially since many people have recently discovered cocktails. Keep in mind to have a mock-tail on hand for those who do not imbibe. This is thoughtful and let’s everyone participate,” she adds.

Serving a signature cocktail at the cocktail hour can also help bring down the cost since you can eliminate a full bar, and offer your guests wine and soft drinks if they do not want to enjoy a cocktail. “Often signature cocktails are pre-batched and passed so the caterer can take advantage of the cost savings and purchase larger format bottles,” says Kertzner.

No matter what the cocktail, your guests will appreciate the thoughtfulness and the detail. Here’s to the Bride and Groom!

a 4th generation native Floridian, Nicole earned an Associate degree in Interior Design in 1999. Soon thereafter she realized that real estate was her passion and began her career in real estate in 2004 as a sales associate with Keller Williams. She got to work and grew a team with her husband at the time. In June 2009 Nicole found herself as a single parent of two young boys and transitioned to a different Keller Williams brokerage to start her own real estate team. Nicole immediately went to work with the goal in mind of balancing her strong drive for serving others with their real estate needs and time with family. Professionally, Nicole has weathered many changes in the real estate market and even managed to grow her team during the recent recession. Since 2009 when she ventured out to form her own team, Nicole has sold over 1,100 homes.

Nicole is passionate about helping others and particularly negotiating win-win agreements for buyers and sellers. In 2011, Nicole earned her Florida real estate broker’s license and currently holds the title as Broker of Record for Keller Williams Classic II Realty in Orlando, Florida. In 2012 after over 90 hours of classroom time Nicole earned the prestigious Graduate of Realtor Institute (GRI) designation. Since then, Nicole has added the Accredited Buyer’s Representation (ABR) designation, the Certified Negotiation Expert (CNE) and the difficult to obtain Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designation to her list of accomplishments. In just a few short years, Nicole has won countless awards including Keller Williams #1 Team in North Florida Region for 2014, Real Trends “The Thousand” Rankings for one of the top 250 Teams for transactions closed and Orlando’s Hot 100. She is consistently one of the top Realtors by homes sold in the local MLS board.

Now happily remarried with two sons and a young daughter, she enjoys spending free time with her family. You’ll find her at the beach, a karate competition or basketball game if she’s not out serving her community or one of her clients. Nicole greatly appreciates the opportunities she has been given. In addition to training classes, Nicole enjoys giving back to others in her industry by offering insight to newer agents when opportunities arise such as when she recently shared her experience in an interview with Gary Keller on how she built her team.

extends across Foreclosure, REO, Short Sale, Tax Deed, County Foreclosure Sale, & Residential Property Management. I have also attained certifications as an REO specialist (REO) & NAR Short Sales & Foreclosure Resource (SFR).

I have evolved during the course of my career to focus on prioritization, time management, efficiency, & being results-oriented. Your time is your most valuable asset. I have built long-term relationships as a trusted advisor to an exclusive list of clients for whom I am willing to work around-the-clock, nights, weekends & holidays with a “whatever-it-takes” attitude & commitment to excellence. I don’t believe it is possible to achieve your goals in life without sacrificing or giving something up. If your “why” is big enough, then your “how” will follow. I start every day by reading my goals, as I have done for the past 8+ years. When you read your goals daily, they become ingrained into your subconscious. They become instinct. Hard work is essential to success. You need to be passionate. Character is defined not during the good times, but when you are faced with challenges & enduring adversity. I’ve bridged buyers & sellers, managed tenants, overcome liens, appeased code enforcement, navigated nearly impossible scenarios & closed the deal again & again & again. I have always been a lead-by-example & hands-on personality who wants to be in the action & on the frontlines. Top performers, whether in real estate, sports or other industries; are not motivated by monetary incentives. They want to compete. They have the drive & ambition to be the best in the business by serving YOU, the client. I’ve had clients tell me time & time again that “you worked miracles.”

I am proud to call Orlando home for the past 15+ years. The Central Florida real estate market continues to emerge & has swung significantly from the inventory crises of the economic recession in 2008 to the present day inventory shortages. As long as the number of buyers greatly exceeds the number of sellers, we can expect a seller’s market with appreciating property values. Orlando’s leaders, attractions, opportunities, diversity & climate have generated vast growth & the city has established itself as one of the nation’s major metropolitan areas. We are seeing a massive inflow of international buyers & international presence across the real estate industry. We can expect a lot more on the way. I’m armed with key partnerships with the country’s top banks & will continue to deliver investments for investors, affordable homes for first time home buyers, & real estate opportunities to anyone who is looking for a great deal. Don’t wait! Great deals go fast!

when you are looking to buy or sell a home in Keene’s Pointe – look no further. Angela is the ONE!

Having been the top listing agent in Keene’s Pointe for the past several years, she definitely knows the market, the community and the houses, as well as the builders who built them. After nearly 12 years working for the developer and its builders, she has watched this Master Planned community of more than 1000 homes spring to life around an 18-hole Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. With homes priced from $400,000 to over $7 million, its family friendly orientation and park like setting attracts a broad cross section of buyers. It is a guard gated community that also offers that little extra peace of mind knowing you are living in what feels like a little town within the gates!

At the hub of activity in Keene’s Pointe is The Golden Bear Country Club, a wonderful amenity with a full slate of activities to offer something for everyone – from golf and tennis to a state of the art fitness center.

“Selling the lifestyle and living the lifestyle is my motto!” Durruthy said. She and her husband, Ed, built a custom home here several years ago and absolutely love it. “We built it for entertaining… My husband’s office staff come to the house for holiday parties and I host many of my new friend clients to the house and introduce them to my dear friends who already live in the community. It is truly a wonderful place to work, live and play and we enjoy sharing it with others!”

Angela has a long career in sales and public relations, having moved here from Miami in 1989. She is a graduate of the University of Miami where she majored in communications. Angela and Ed have a daughter, Desiree, who graduated from the University of Central Florida and works with her father’s business, Margaritaville Merchandising. The Durruthys are also big MAGIC fans and have been going to the games since the franchise first opened!

Giving back to the community is another important aspect of Angela’s life. She has been a long time member and Past President of Central Florida Women’s League and currently donates time to help the Florida Special Olympics.

“Next time you are out in the Windermere area, please call me and we will go around and take in the beauty of Keene’s Pointe together. Let me show you where I live, work and play!! Life is good ~ Enjoy!!”

“i only succeed when my customers do,” says Broker-Owner Catherine L. “Micki” Blackburn-Nagel of Micki Blackburn Realty, “and I love to see people succeed.” In 2004 and 2005, Micki Blackburn Realty was recognized by the Greater Lake County Association of Realtors’ as the #1 real estate office in Lake County, achieving more than $175 million in sales in 2005 alone. According to Micki, “Being #1 was never really our goal but we’re proud that it happened.”

Established in 1994, Micki Blackburn Realty now has three offices to meet the needs of buyers and sellers throughout Central Florida. Offices are located in Clermont, Mascotte and Webster. Micki attributes her success to old-fashioned values of hard work and customer service, combined with extensive education and experience in finance, contacts, negotiations and marketing. Micki’s realtors bring it all together in a combination that equals success. Most of Micki’s realtors are multi-million and million-dollar producers, and all are exceptionally knowledgeable about the marketplaces, neighborhoods, schools and industries where they live and work. This is yet another key to the success of her business, Micki explains. “We specialize in agents who are home-grown, long-time residents and active in the community.”

Micki firmly believes that her residential and commercial teams are the best in the business. “All of our realtors work together on residential and commercial sales and purchases in a unique team approach. All the listings, both residential and commercial, belong to the office rather than any particular individual. That encourages teamwork. We’re like one big family.” This team approach makes Micki Blackburn Realty a standout in the industry. Her realtors have the know-how and contacts, industry wide, to make each residential or commercial transaction a success.

Micki herself is a member of the South Lake Chamber of Commerce, president of the South Lake Historical Society and a member of the executive board of Hospice for Lake and Sumter counties. A lifelong resident of the area, Micki says she is proud of Lake and Sumter counties, which she believes are the “best places in Florida to live.” “My goal is to give back to Lake and Sumter counties in return for everything those communities have done for me.”

If you’re looking to buy or sell property in Lake or Sumter County, please give Micki Blackburn Realty a call at any one of our three locations.

tracy was born and raised in Huber Heights, (Dayton) Ohio. She graduated from The Ohio State University in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing. After graduating, she was a Project Manager of a marketing firm, allowing her several opportunities to travel the country before relocating to Central Florida in July 2000. As a young girl, she had an ability to establish leadership and easily earn the trust of all who came in contact with her due, in part, to her extremely warm nature.

Tracy has been successfully selling real estate throughout Central Florida for eleven years and is working for Keller Williams Advantage II Realty. Her leadership skills have allowed her to be a part of the Keller Williams Agent Leadership Council for the past two years, heading up the Culture committee which involves several community service projects throughout the year. Tracy has received many sales awards since her first year selling real estate. Her ability to effectively market, negotiate and understand her client’s needs has helped her stay as a top player year after year. Her experience in a broad range of transactions and a reputation closing the contract. The majority of her business has been built on referrals which speaks volumes about her dedication to satisfying her customers. Tracy truly cares about the people she works with and enjoys what she does. Tracy has a broad network of independent professionals to aid in facilitating sales for both sellers and buyers.

Tracy is a single mother of a 16 year old daughter and a 14 year old son, who take priority over everything. Thankfully, her career in real estate has allowed her flexibility and time needed to raise her children as a single mother. Her children are extremely active in sports, which keeps Tracy very busy outside of real estate. She is actively involved in the school PTA, Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and plays competitively in the WAIT and USTA tennis leagues. Tracy also enjoys spending time at the beach, working out, boating, golfing and watching football and basketball.

Tracy has been featured in the Who’s Who in Real Estate every year since 2009. She has obtained her CDPE allowing her to specialize in short sales from smaller homes to luxury homes. Whatever your need in real estate, you will be working with a true professional then it comes to Tracy.

real estate redefined: carolyn Moriarty & company

Carolyn Moriarty has built a reputation as being one of the most sought-after realtors in Florida on her ability to connect with buyers and sellers alike, and her dedication to finding the best property for each client’s need is what sets her apart in a very competitive field.

In just 7 years with RE/MAX, Carolyn established herself as one of the premier broker/agents in Central Florida and indeed the entire state - and just last year Carolyn ranked in the top 10 of all agents across central Florida. In addition, in March 2015 Carolyn was awarded the most prestigious RE/ MAX Lifetime Achievement Award for reaching 3 million dollars in commissions!

It was at this point that Carolyn decided that the next step in her career would be to establish her own brokerage firm. Carolyn states: “What else can I do? I’m a goal setter and a go-getter, and I have goals in place at all times. I had set goals for myself during my time with RE/MAX and surpassed all of them, so opening my own brokerage is the next step.”

It’s with that mindset that in April 2015, Carolyn Moriarty & Company, Inc was officially launched. Carolyn envisions her new venture as a launching pad for expansion into several areas of real estate beyond the REO market, including luxury home sales and commercial real estate. She looks forward to challenging herself as she takes on the mantle of business owner.

Carolyn’s main goal? Making the brokerage a wonderful workplace for her staff and offering clients a new level of service. “I picture my brokerage being another home for my agents and staff and I definitely want to implement a more ‘homey’ atmosphere.” Carolyn will be dedicated to building a business that reflects her commitment to excellence and will allow her and her staff to grow, learn and achieve on every level.

Carolyn Moriarty & Company will be based out of Oviedo, where she intends to make herself the preeminent broker in the area. For this “Lady 2 Watch”, no goal is ever out of reach!

abby has lived in central florida since 1999. After graduating from Rollins College, where she was a member of the crew team, she began her career as a Realtor® in 2004.

In college, Abby majored in Spanish. She continued her studies in Spain, recognizing a second language would be an invaluable tool no matter what career she eventually chose. Following graduation, Abby vacationed for several months and found unexpected ideas running through her head. A lightbulb moment led her into real estate.

Her first four years, she partnered with a more experienced agent whose advice was invaluable. Working mainly with buyers in a seller’s market, Abby quickly honed her contract negotiating skills. In her first year, Abby was named “Rookie of The Year” by her RE/MAX office.

When her associate moved into the commercial arena in 2008, Nelson split off just as the Orlando market peaked and created her own team.

As the real estate market corrected, she hit the ground running and rather than complain about the bleak conditions, Abby used them to her advantage and developed systems to sell REO (bank-owned) and short sale properties. In unfavorable market conditions, Abby and her team managed to close over 170 transactions in one year. Since then, Abby has been honored with numerous awards from local magazines, RE/MAX, and even featured in The Wall Street Journal.

Her hi-tech marketing strategies, meticulous systems, established team, and client dedication allowed her not only to maintain her business, but also increase it significantly. In today’s demanding marketplace, Abby believes it is impossible to provide adequate service without a TEAM of specialists. Her seven-person team of professionals has roughly sixty combined years of experience in real estate.

“The Great Homes Group” is quickly becoming one of the premier real estate teams in Central Florida, and offers experience, local knowledge, cutting edge technology and effective marketing, as well as 100% dedication and commitment to their growing clientele.

Early in 2012, Abby became a mom. She and her supportive husband, Brian, became the proud parents of Dagny! Then in Feb. 2014, Dagny became a ‘big’ sister to Blake. Taking

on this role can be demanding in its own right. Adding this new responsibility while running a successful real estate group and attending to client needs is challenging, but Abby never misses a beat. She makes it look easy. Many of her current clients have been with her since 2004 and have become a wonderful and steady referral source. Her persistence and willingness to do anything necessary and ethical to best represent her client(s) shows in every transaction.Edited testimonials from past clients:

“The complexity involved … particularly in the current market was discouraging, but Abby clearly had the knowledge and skills to get the best possible result….We received frequent, timely communication. My inquiries were … addressed with kindness and patience…”

“…The Great Homes Group may have been the only entity that didn’t allow my faith to ebb. Professionalism, commitment, thoroughness, care, concern, and kindness are hallmarks of this team.

“Abby Nelson is far more than a Realtor®. She is part Realtor®, advocate, advisor, warrior, counselor, and friend….”

“…Words cannot express the appreciation we have … helping us … pick up the pieces after our previous contract with a local builder fell through. Now we know what it means to work with an experienced, educated Realtor®.”

“…Abby’s skills as a realtor are beyond reproach. She is well versed in every aspect of the home buying process…”

Abby, assisted by her team, continues to increase her client base and enjoys working on new challenges. She uses her growing knowledge, experience and incredible organizational skills to establish and implement systems that allow her to work with both sellers and buyers on a larger scale, while maintaining the level of customer service her present clients have come to expect.

In our highly dynamic real estate market, conditions change quickly. Taking on new challenges and adapting to altering markets is how Abby ‘Berkowitz’ Nelson has made her name so well known in the Orlando area.

When life moves you…call the powerful real estate services provided by Abby and “THE GREAT HOMES GROUP” and prove to yourself the above are not “blowing smoke” words but are the factual statements of a true professional.

Many challenges are faced day in day out with life itself. Try being in real estate and you learn very quickly how REAL the challenges can be. I started in a time where people could buy a home regardless of their income, their job history, etc. I was actually not one of the “lucky ones” that had closings appearing out of thin air. I was probably one of the few that didn’t make it big in the real estate boom!!

Then the dreaded world of SHORT SALES came. I lost it all-my home, my dog, my sanity! It was the lowest of lows and most Realtors left the industry. I was actually the lucky one this time!! I was so distraught over my own personal situation that I

became determined to help other people that were going through similar times and make this a better outcome for them than it had been for me. I became HAFA (Home Affordable Foreclosure Alternative) certified and marketed my services to homeowners that were facing foreclosure. It was the hardest work with the most reward for me emotionally. I was doing what I had always wanted to do-real estate and help people!

With that, I grew my business by compassion for the person-not the transaction. It made me realize how lucky I was to be able to sit with them and share my story. They had no idea how much they were actually helping me-not the other way around. That lasted for many years.

In 2013, I organized a 5k to raise awareness about human trafficking in our area. I was able to raise over $12,000 in 90 days and produced a successful run at Clermont Waterfront Park in October 2013. Run For Freedom, a non-profit organization with ties to Clermont. I was awarded a proclamation by the Mayor of Clermont, awarded the Humanitarian award from Realtor Association of Lake and Sumter County. Also, awarded the Cultural Icon award from Keller Williams Classic III Realty.

In 2014, my team and I successfully closed over $15 million in sales and were awarded Top 5 of Teams in North Florida Region of Keller Williams. This year we are already surpassing our goals!

Starting in this industry in early 2000 and sticking to my values and core beliefs have brought me to the place I am today and we continue to strive. My team and I are constantly striving to exceed expectations and go the extra mile for you! Whether you are buying or selling, or know anyone who is, please think of me. We are here to help make your real estate dreams come true. Going the extra mile is part of our everyday actions and beliefs.

For decades, the IRS has forced U.S. banks to keep track of customer accounts and report not only earnings, but also cash transactions over $10,000, as well as cash transactions under $10,000 that are “suspicious.” In the past few years the government’s quest to keep track of U.S. citizens’ banking has targeted banks located in other countries.

Through treaties and the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), foreign financial institutions are required to report directly to the IRS, information about financial accounts held by U.S. taxpayers or held by foreign entities in which citizens and residents hold substantial ownership.

The effect on those who have foreign accounts has been significant. Many banks have asked U.S. customers to close their accounts. In addition, this year, thousands of foreign banks will be reporting U.S. account holders to the IRS. The reporting of offshore accounts can have a significant impact on U.S. taxpayers. If the taxpayer did not report income on the account, the consequences include: criminal prosecution, as well as additional taxes, civil interest and penalties. If over $10,000 is in foreign accounts, a Report of Foreign Bank and Financial Accounts (FBAR) must be filed yearly. Willfully failing to file the FBAR is a federal crime and a civil penalty of up to 50% of the value of the account each year could be imposed.

Other forms are required to be filed concerning foreign assets including a form required under FATCA to report certain offshore assets, including bank accounts. The types of assets and the value of the assets that trigger the requirement to file the FATCA form varies. For a person living in the U.S. and filing a single tax return, assets include bank accounts over $50,000.

The current laws require the filing of multiple reports about offshore assets, trusts and ownership in companies. The failure to file any one of the many forms may result in criminal prosecution and civil penalties.

With foreign banks reporting U.S. customers directly to the IRS, a person may face serious consequences if the complex and numerous forms are not filed property.

A person may avoid criminal prosecution for failure to report foreign accounts and income by entering the Offshore Voluntary Disclosure Program (OVDP). This safety valve is not available if the foreign bank reports the account to the IRS before the person enters the OVDP.

This year many people are and will be receiving letters from offshore banks advising that current and past accounts will be reported to the IRS. This letter should not be ignored.

spring is here! Time to kick the workouts into high gear to get in shape for bathing suits, bridal wear, micro-minis and sleeveless tops. Most people have partnered up with the loyal workout buddies like Fitbit, Vivofit, Jawbone and other fitness trackers. These trackers, along with fitness tracking apps, have become essential to active people not only during workouts, but also throughout the day.

Fitness trackers are really very simple: they count steps; measure sleep; analyze your diet and tabulate metrics such as heart rate, blood oxygen levels, skin temperature, perspiration, body weight and body mass. The aggregate of all this information provides astounding information about one’s overall health and daily habits.

Thing is, this information isn’t being provided to just the user. Third party companies also have access to your personal health information, and they’re paying a lot of money for it. The privacy controversy surrounding these health trackers has been a cause for concern by the government in the past and continues to be a topic addressed by lobbyists.

In May of 2014, the FTC held a meeting about these fitness trackers and healthcare apps, focusing on statistics of exactly how much of this information is being bought, who the purchasers of the health databases are, and the privacy protections, consents and disclaimers that should be available to every user of fitness trackers and healthcare apps.

The FTC studied 43 different fitness trackers and health apps (wearables not included) and found:

• 26% of the free apps and 40% of the paid apps did not have a privacy policy

• 39% of the free apps and 30% of the paid apps sent data to someone not disclosed by

the developer either in-app or in any privacy policy they found

• 13% of the free apps and 10% of the paid apps encrypted all data connections between the app and the developer’s website.

One app tested transmitted information to eighteen (18) different third-parties. That information included device information, consumer specific information (name, email, user name), workout and diet information. Twenty-two (22) of the observed third parties were able to obtain the following information: exercise, diet, medical and symptom search information, zip code, location, and gender. Scary, right?

Even scarier is how the information gets used. The third-parties are able to aggregate the information, which provides them with a database on you, the consumer, and all your health issues, habits, dietary restrictions and the like. Generally, you must give your consent to share your personal health information pursuant to privacy laws, but quite a handful of these apps don’t offer a privacy policy. Voila, the third-parties have

circumvented the privacy laws. Once they obtain their data on you, they can do what they want with it. Astounding!

This may sound like Big Brother, but this time the government is on our side. This is a hot topic on Capitol Hill, with companies like Fitbit hiring lobbyists to respond to mounting concerns about health privacy law. With the Apple Watch and Apple’s Healthkit making its debut on the market, health data-sharing concerns are at an all-time high. And while there are some protections in place, (a few laws prohibit the sale of health data to insurance companies to prevent unfair consumer discrimination); lawmakers are concerned the privacy policy requirements are not evolving as fast as the technology.

So before you become part of the world’s largest healthcare experiment, make sure there are privacy policies protecting your information on all health and fitness apps, gadgets and widgets. And for crying out loud, read the fine print!

Moving is always a little stressful but when you move in with someone (who has a pet of their own!) things can get pretty hectic. And when you’re in love nothing but your relationship matters so remembering to help your pet transition into a new life can get a little hazy. Luckily, we have prepared a bit of dog-friendly advice and treat-filled steps to help you ease your four-legged family into a new home.

1. A blinD DAte

Don’t wait until the last minute to bring your two dogs together. That means your two pups need a date of their own before the big move. So check your calendar and pick a date for the two!

2. meet & greet

Before leaving the both of them alone to play, have the two on leashes and introduce them to each other. Let them sniff it out and play it cool. Each of you should use positive (verbal) reinforcement every time the two get

along. When you see them play around, wag their tails, or being playful, keep praising them to encourage the good behavior. In case of any funny business or they get too excited, distract them by making them “sit” or “stay” to ease tensions and give them both treats!

3. Double DAtes

Once the two get along, try taking them on walks or out to play at park and let them build a relationship, walk besides each other and play fetch and give them each treats when they’re getting along and are obedient to your commands.

4. the uPs & Downs

Look out for extreme growls, teeth bearing, aggressive barking, or defensive postures or aggressive stares, which should be impeded. If you notice either dog falling into one of these postures, immediately use positive reinforcement, back them away from each other and have them listen to your

commands. Then slowly, let them close to each other and try getting them to play again.

5. A night in

Once you know the two of them get along, bring them home for a long night in. Let them stay the night at each house before moving them in together. Let them get comfortable with each other in every situation. Don’t let either one of them be territorial so when the two of them are living together they are not overprotective, jealous or start fights. Finally, when it’s time to feed them, do it in individual areas and pick the food bowls up when they’re done. If there is one thing dogs want more than chew toys and belly rubs, is food. So it can get a little messy!

So there you have it newlyweds! The 5 simple steps to bringing your pets together before moving in together with your new family.

if you own a dog, you know that taking care of your pet is like taking care of a child. You treat them, love them, and worry about them as much as you would your own family. They may drive you nuts but they are always there when you need them most. They make you smile and those puppy eyes let them get away with almost anything. Let’s face it; your pup is your ‘fur baby.’ So, when you meet that special someone to share the rest of your life with, his or her approval is just as important as your own.
