Premier Classes now offered in AKC Agility Trials The AKCs newest agility class—Premier—provides an opportunity for agility competitors to demonstrate different handling skills than those required for the Master Level Classes in Standard & Jumpers With Weaves. The Premier class focuses on handling the sequence or se- quences of the day. Premier is an optional class. Clubs may, but are not required to offer Premier Standard and Premier Jumpers with Weaves on the same day. Exhibitors may enter Prem- ier and Master Standard and/or Jumpers With Weaves on the same day. Both Standard and JWW Premier courses will be Master level courses incorporating a number of el- ements that challenge the dog and handler in ways that are not seen on traditional AKC courses. These elements include sequences like threadles, back-side jumps, pull-throughs, layering, chal- lenging weave pole entries, and longer running passes. One bi-directional jump or tunnel will be al- lowed to encourage handling strategies. Obstacle spacing on Premier courses may exceed the limits of those on Master courses. Premier courses will use the same obstacles as the corresponding Master course. At the judges discretion a viaduct may be used in place of the panel jump, there may be 3 tunnel passes and there will be no table. A Premier course will have 19 to 21 obstacles, 3 side switches, 4 Premier Elements and 5 Challenges. Courses will be judged using AKC Master scoring and hand signals. If you have any questions regarding the Premier class please con- tact Carrie DeYoung, Director of Agility at [email protected]. Our 2 year old Border Collie, 2B (Rival’s Meant 2B Jenny, CDX, GN, RE, PT) earned HIT out of Open B (196.5) on the first day of the Brooksville Trials. She earned a couple more qualifying legs in Open B for the 2016 Classic. 2B finished her Rally Excellent Title with another 1st Place and a (97) because I made a mistake.

The judges Rick Cox and Bob Withers were wonderful to show to and we showed in pouring rain one day, 35 mph winds another and 34 degree temps on the last day (we could only go three days). Each day brought a new weather challenge but we had a great time and reached a few more goals.

ROLINS CASYJONES MIDNITXPRES UD RAE OA NAJ Casey was such a small little kid, I was lay-ing flat on the other side of the high jump so he could stand on me to reach and put his paws on the high jump so friend Alice could take his picture of him at 8 weeks old.

Sadly, on January 18, Casey made his final journey at the Rainbow Bridge. He was 18. He lived a nice long life, enjoyed his obe-dience, rally, and agility. It was a difficult thing to do, as it always is, but he told me it was time. I'll always remember the good times we had together.

Bob and the other 4-footed kids were there waiting for him so he would not make the trip alone.

Rest my Casey, you’re whole and young again. My time with you for is up for now. Bob will take over watching over you and the others. I'll be seeing you again.

Obituaries

Merlyn Zimmerman 5/9/03—1/11/16 It is with tremendous sadness that I share the

passing of Shamrock Acres Magic Man CDX.CGC aka Merlyn. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge at 10:15 PM Monday night January 11, 2016 he was 12 1/2 years old. He was at home surrounded by his family.

Over the Christmas holidays he was apparently bitten by a brown recluse spider. Despite numerous vet visits. medications and intensive care in his al-ready weakened state he succumbed after one last sunny nap in out backyard Monday.

Merlyn was a great Service Dog, steady obedi-ence partner and my strength during many difficult times.

He was my heart, my soul, my joy. I feel as though I have lost my "center". Cooper and Pilot have big paw prints to fill. Rest in Piece sweet boy.
