ACADEMIC YEAR 2016-2017
The Academic Year 2016-17 began with a solemn Eucharistic celebration presided over
by Most. Rev. Domnic Lumon, Archbishop of Imphal, on Monday, 1 August, 2016.
Inauguration of the Academic Year
The Inaugural function was held in the audi-
torium in the presence of staff, students and invited
guests to mark the formal beginning of the New Aca-
demic Year. His Grace, Most Rev. Domnic Jala, SDB,
the Archbishop of Shillong, was the Chief Guest and
His Grace, Most Rev. Domnic Lumon, Archbishop of
Imphal was the Guest of Honour at the function.
After the words of welcome by Fr. Linus
Neli, the Rector, the Head of the Department, Fr.
Isaac Padinjarekuttu, presented a report of the
Academic Year 2015-2016. Dr. R.R. Graviour Au-
gustine, Professor or Catechetics and Homiletics
at OTC gave the inaugural lecture on the topic:
“Communicating the Faith in the Modern World: the
Challenge of Catechesis in Northeast India.” The
Newly published book of Fr. R.R. Graviour Augus-
tine, Sharing the Gospel was formally released on the occasion by the Chief Guest. Fr. James
Anderson Syiemlieh of Nogstoin diocese who secured the highest percentage in the 2011-2015
batch with 96.04% marks was awarded the Hubert D’Rosario Award for the best student.

Healing Ministry, Communication for Pastoral leadership and
Family Apostolate
On 5th September
2016, the Students’ Council
organized a colourful function
to mark the celebration of
Teachers’ Day. The day began
with a solemn Eucharist presid-
ed over by Rev. Fr. Marcel Fer-
nandes, OCD. It was followed
by a felicitation programme for
the teachers and a basket ball
match between the freshers and
the rest of the students.
On October 20th , 2016, the
college organized the annual staff-
student seminar on the Apostolic Ex-
hortation, Amoris Laetitia. The students
in groups studied the document chapter
by chapter and made presentations,
followed by discussion. It was a very
good way of coming to know the docu-
ment in depth.

As part of the effort of the staff
members to come together occa-
sionally to reflect on contempo-
rary events in the church and
society, the teaching staff of Ori-
ens and Sacred Heart Theological
College held a discussion on the
them “The Impact of the Pontificate
of Pope Fancis on the Church and
the World” on 24 October, 2016.
Fr. Linus Neli and Fr. Graviour Au-
gustine animated the discussion. It
was a very fruitful exchange.

Joseph Mappilaparampil

to highlight the plight
of the blind in India and
in the region and to
create awareness
about eye donation.

Deacons’ farwell
The Students’ Council orga-
nized a farewell for the fourth years on
the 1st of October 2016 at 12.00 PM. In
the college Auditorium to thank them
for their contributions to the college
and to wish them good luck in their
final examinations.
NITS Conference The 54th North Indian Theology
Students Conference 2016 was held at
Aizawl Theological college (ATC), Mizo-
ram, from 18th to 21st October, 2016 on the theme Re-
Imagining Theological Education in India. three Students
from Oriens Theological college had the privilege of
representing OTCat the Conference.
There were around 40 budding theologians
present for the seminar, together with their faculty
guides from various theological colleges. There were
presentations of papers by different theological colleg-
es based on different topics. All the sessions were well
structured and were followed by panel discussions and
interactions by the students as well as the faculty
guides.
The programe was coulourful and mem-
orable in which Bro. Prasad Pandeeti,
CMF expressed the sentiments of grati-
tude on behalf of the students and Fr.
Peter Haokip gave his encouraging
words. Dn. Peter Solo ex-
pressed the deacons’ feel-
ings.

Football Match The Students’ Council organized a friendly football match between Oriens Theo-
logical college and Sacred Heart Theological College on April 6th Thursday afternoon at 1:00
PM, Mawlai Stadium In which
Oriens came out victorious.

Basket ball Match On March 9, 2017 the Students’ Council
organized a Basket Ball match between different
batches for the Annual Games Day. The match be-
gan at 8:45 AM in OTC Basket Ball Court. Each
Batch played in a disciplined manner and with full
team spirit. The Second Years under the leadership
of Bro. Henry Laldinmawia won the match.
Solo & Ex-tempore Speech On April 29, 2017 the Students’ Council organized a
singing (solo) and Ex-tempore speech competition under the
leadership of Br. Nayak Chandra Sekhar to bring out the talents of
the students. The competition was held class-wise and three from
each batch were allowed to take part. For the Ex-
tempore speech br. Munneli Subbaiah and for the solo
competition br. Tanti Sukiram got the first prize.
Quiz Competition On May 11,
2017 the Students’
Council Organized a
Quiz competition at
OTC Biennial Hall and it
was conducted class-
wise. Four persons could
represent each class. Fr.
Samuel Kapani was the
Quiz master. The First Year brothers won the 1st Prize.

Oriens Annual Magazine On Saturday, 3rd June
2017: Rev. Fr. Linus Neli released
the second issue of Oriens Annual
Magazine an initiative of the Stu-
dents’ Council. The Students’
Council thanked the benefactors
for supporting the work. The Editori-
al Board was headed by Bro. Bro.
Saneesh Thomas.
