serving the society through an array of
distinguished learning experiences. The first
University YMCA was set up at Hong Kong Baptist
University in 2003. After a decade of expansion, a
total of eight University YMCAs and one College
YMCA have been established in Hong Kong,
serving over 5,000 members.

4. Past Trainee Feedback
North America (USA)This programme provided me an opportunity to broaden myhorizons. It gave me a great chance to learn about theirculture and working style. Also, there was a training whichtaught us how to plan activities before going overseas. Thisreally gave help to my internship.
Chan Yuen Yung – Uni-Y(HKUST)China Town YMCA, San Francisco (Global Y 2018)
24
South America (Brazil)The internship has enhanced my skills in leadership. Due tothe large extent of freedom, we could decide the way tofinish our tasks as well as how to do it. It gave us a chance tolead the group.
Yu Kwan Leung – Uni-Y(PolyU)Sao Paulo YMCA (Global Y 2015)
25
Europe (Ukraine)A lot of excursions to the city and the countryside werearranged for us and we all enjoyed the happy times together.Through these experiences, I learnt a lot more about Ukraineand changed my impression to this country.
Yeung Chi Hing – Uni-Y(CUHK)YMCA Lviv (Global Y 2018)
26
Europe (Germany)The programme has broadened my horizons. During myinternship, I was given opportunities to try different jobs. Inmy free time, my host family always brought me to visitdifferent social service department in Siegerland. It was alsoa good chance for me to explore the culture in Germany.
Chan Kong Ying - Uni-Y(PolyU)CVJM Kreisverband, Siegerland (Global Y 2018)
27
Asia (Japan)I have met so many new friends including the local Japanese. It has also widened my perspective towards the worldthrough participating in the Global Youth Conference whichheld by the Osaka YMCA.
Yu Ho Bun - Uni-Y(HKUST)Osaka YMCA (Global Y 2018)
28
Asia (Korea)I have learnt a lot and tried many things which I would rarelyhave chance to join, such as water sports and survivalswimming. Also, the Korean workplace culture which Iexperienced can greatly assist with my academic study andcareer preparation in the future.
Chu Fung Laam - Uni-Y(HKU)Seoul YMCA (Global Y 2018)
29
Oceania (New Zeland)It was an excellent experience to live and work in NewZealand. I am happy to experience a totally different livingstyle from Hong Kong in Gisborne. I really enjoyed a laid-back lifestyle and the nature. People in New Zealand arewelcoming and nice. The YMCA members are helpful andsupportive.
Li Chung Mui - Uni-Y(PolyU)YMCA Gisborne (Global Y 2018)
30
Africa (Tanzania)From the experience of working with the local staff andtrainees, I have learnt to be patient and consider theprinciples and thoughts behind their practices, instead ofstressing others to adapt to your own practice.
