Sonett: unique over Sonett has set standards for 40years. In the beginning, there were thewater and the natural scientist JohannesSchnorr who by using the drop picturemethod detected the extent to whichdrinking water was polluted by laundrydetergent surfactants as early as the late1960s. This was the incentive for theCompany Sonett to be founded in 1977,and thus the idea of environmental-friendly washing in a modular systemwas born. The washing substances can

be made use of at their best, only whendetergent, softener and bleaching agentare dispensed separately. Abstainingfrom any petrochemical raw materials, deliberately renouncing genetic engi-neering, using no enzymes but ratheroils and essential oils derived from or-ganic plants, continues being the eco-logical criteria applied to date for sus-tainable washing and cleaning.Effective, ecological, caring, andsensibleWe understand sustainability

as going far beyond pure ecology. Sonettconsiders itself a pioneer not only re-garding their products’ efficiency andeconomic use, but also as far as structur-ing the company in a socially acceptableway. The labelling of many of the Sonett products is carried out by disabled peo-ple at the Camphill WorkshopsLehenhof close by. Sonett’s joint management is based on partnershipprinciples and has been transferred to the Non-Profit Foundation Sonett

Sonett was grantedtwo prestigious design awards: theRed Dot Award 2012and the iF DesignAward 2013. Sonetthas been awardedwith prizes for a pioneering, smartand trend-setting design. Design:www.lierl.de

the last 40 yearsalready some years ago. We see the purpose of our work in not only want-ing to decrease pollution of nature and, above all, water, but we rather considerwater to be the essence of all life andwish to respect and revitalize it. To thisend, we energize our entire productionwater in twelve egg-shaped glass ves-sels and rhythmatise our laundry deter-gent preparations by moving them inthe Oloid in eight-shaped loops. Ourproviders for electricity are the hydro-

electric power station close by andGreenpeace Energy. Jointly with theLehenhof Workshops we run an ecological heating systemwith wood. Pioneering Design Our new appearance was granted the internationally renowned „reddotaward“ in 2012, and once again in2013 the „iF communication designaward“ for a pioneering, smart andtrend-setting design. www.sonett.eu

2 Company

Sonett has been a pioneer in ecological laundrydetergents andcleaning agentssince 1977

The Sonett products are now avail-able in almost all European countries.Demand is also steadily increasing innon-European countries. Our com-pany headquarters are in Deggen-hausertal, near Lake Constance. Approximately 90 % of the Sonettproducts are sold via the health food trade.

Sonett currently has approximately60 employees and is growing continuously.

Our corporate philosophy andquality concept is based on anthroposophic spiritual science.

Dynamized ingredientsConsidering it our responsibility to renaturalize water which has beenused for laundry washing and clean-ing, we add to our products sub-stances which have been rhythma-tised in an oloide mixer, and workwith process water that is swirled in twelve egg-shaped glass vessels.

Selection of the raw materialsAll of the ingredients we use are completely biodegradable and free ofenzymes, petrochemical surfactants, fragrances, dyestuffs, preservatives, bleach activators, etc.

Raw materials from controlledbiodynamic and organic cultivation100 % of the olive oil, rapeseed oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil andshea butter we use, as well as all the essential oils, originate from controlled organic cultivation.

Sources of energyHalf of the electricity we consumecomes from Greenpeace Energy andthe other half from a small hydro-electric plant in our closest neighbour-hood. We share a woodchips heatingsystem with the Camphill WorkshopsLehenhof.

Certified ecological qualityThe entire Sonett Assortment has beencertified according to the criteria ofEcogarantie, the premium symbol forecological laundry detergents andcleaning agents offered in wholefoodshops.

Sonett has been certified with thesymbol Stop Climate Change. This isthe highest standard for extensiveanalysis and certification of CO2. The label certifies the analysis of the entire enterprise regarding CO2 emissions and complete trans-parency as far as the processes causing CO2 are concerned. Theanalysis proves that Sonett hardlygenerates CO2 emissions due to heating and electrical energy.

Certified sustainable businessmanagementSince 2015 Sonett has been certifiedaccording to the CSE standard (Certified Sustainable Economics) ofthe Association for Applied BusinessEthics. Contrary to pure product certification, this label comprises the entire company. In addition to ecological product requirements, the company’s social and ethical orientations are certified.

Common PropertyTo us, company capital is not a privateaffair, but rather a common good.

That is why we have transferred theshares of the Sonett Company to afoundation. The non-profit FoundationSonett promotes water research, de-veloping alternative testing methodsthat do not involve experiments onanimals, training in connection withresearch in formative forces, as wellas other ecological, cultural and artistic initiatives embodying the spirit of anthroposophy.

Furthermore, by taking this step, theentire enterprise Sonett can no longerbe bequeathed or sold any more and the ground has been ideally pre-pared for future company succession. This does no longer depend on being a family member or on one’s financial strength, but merely on the successor’s capability to managethe company in the spirit of Sonett, fulfilling our credo: Organic soapsand detergents protecting natural water resources, theessence of life

Sonett Products:Certified and con-trolled ecologicallaundry detergentsand cleaning agents

Why bother to have the productscertified at all?Initially, implementing certification, according to ecological standards, by law through the EU Regulation on Organic Production, has been provided for only as far as foodstuffsare concerned. Independent author-ized inspection bodies monitor thecompliance of the standards with theEU Regulation on Organic Production,e.g. according to the guidelines of theGerman organic label “Bio-Label”, or the Demeter and Bioland criteria, amongst others. There is no such “directive on organic production” forecological cosmetics, laundry deter-gents or cleaning agents. Only the general legal provisions are applicablefor them. It is in this very field, how-ever, where assessment of the prod-ucts’ ecological quality is extremelydifficult.

Cosmetics and Body Care:Even though we come across an almost complete statutory list of in-gredients (INCI), without any previouschemical knowledge these ingredientsremain unknown materials, however, more or less nice-sounding denomi-nations—so to speak—without anymeaning.

Laundry Detergents and Cleaning Agents:In the case of laundry detergents and cleaning agents it is but a few selected ingredients that have to bedeclared with their generic namessuch as fragrances, dyestuffs, en-zymes, anionic, non-ionic or cationicsurfactants, and preservatives, whichmeans that even with previous chemi-cal knowledge the actual ingredientsare not identifiable.

For some of the laundry detergentsand cleaning agents a European Eco-label, the EU flower, has been appliedover the last few years. But, contraryto popular belief, this symbol is noecological certificate. It only verifiesthat the product—measured againstthe ingredients of conventional prod-ucts, inclusive of optical brighteners,

softeners, enzymes, etc.—washes orcleans efficiently. But since it is thisvery measurement which cannot beapplied to ecological laundry deter-gents and cleaning agents, the eco-logical message of this label is nil.

An ecological certificate of an author-ized entity such as BDIH—e.g. its label “kontrollierte NaturkosmetikBDIH” (= certified natural cosmeticsBDIH) or the Ecogarantie Certificateof the Belgian Certification InstituteBioforum, can assure the consumerthat the formulae contain no harmful substances.

For more detailed information regarding the topic “certification” visit www.sonett.eu.

Sonett Quality4

Sonett Quality Criterion

In order to be able to fully as-sess the quality of a product, one has to look at the productitself first: its ingredients, manufacturing process, andbiodegradability. But, apart fromthat, the quality of a product isalso influenced by: the peopleproducing it, the social structureof the company, its capital struc-ture, the cooperation betweenproducer, dealer and consumer, and, last but not least, the im-pact made by the enterprise itself, its motives and generalprinciples.

Initial Incentive

It was as early as the late 1960s thatthe natural scientist Johannes Schnorrdid research on flow analysis at theInstitut für Strömungswissenschaftenin Herrischried (Institute for Flow Sci-ences), this being the initial incentivefor the development of Sonett’s Laun-dry Detergents and Cleaning Agents.

In order to assess the quality of wa-ters and drinking water, a methodwas developed to the effect that thequality of the water is holisticallyevaluated, in addition to the regularanalyses regarding individual sub-stances such as heavy metals, pesti-cides, and organic chlorine com-pounds. This is done by means of thedrop-picture method (see fig. below).

The drop-picture method can tellus something about the quality of thewater same being the essence of alllife as well as foodstuff. Thanks to thismethod, Johannes Schnorr was ableto prove the existence of surfactantsin the drinking water. These surfac-tants were primarily to be found inresidual laundry detergents andcleaning agents, which could not bedegraded in nature or only to a cer-tain extent. These residues were to beencountered in groundwater as wellas in lakes and rivers where theycaused enormous accumulation offoam at dams and sluices. It was onlymuch later that laws were passed requiring minimum degradability.

Said experience with the drop pic-tures were the incentive for JohannesSchnorr to come up with the conceptof a novel environment-compatiblelaundry detergent, the idea for thisnew detergent being: rapid and com-plete biodegradability of all the laun-dry detergents’ ingredients and to useraw materials as sparingly as possible.

This was the moment whenSonett’s modular system wasborn.

Caring and feeling responsible forwater as the essence of all life, hasmade Sonett come into life. Water assuch is the actual laundry detergentand cleaning agent. By using readilyand completely biodegradable rawmaterials such as purely plant-derivedsoaps, sugar surfactants, and mineralssuch as sodium carbonate and sili-cates, we increase the washing per-formance of the water, at the sametime fostering its being returned toand reintegrated into the natural cy-cle. Doing the laundry and cleaningare “cultural achievements” which, though useful to man, do pollute thewater. We consider it our task to dothe laundry and cleaning in harmonywith nature, and especially with thewater, in a considerate and revitaliz-ing way.

Manufacturing theSonett Products

Our entire range of laundry powders, liquid laundry detergents, and clean-ing agents are produced in the SonettPlant at Deggenhausen.

Our liquid soaps are manufacturedin a procedure of chemical reaction, transforming the oils into soap with-out applying any energy, instead ofusing the conventional energy-inten-sive soap boiling.

Considerable part of our label-ing is carried out by disabled peopleat the Camphill Workshops Lehenhof. This offers Sonett a great flexibility inworking in small batches; taken intoaccount the great variety of languagesregarding our labeling, this is a per-fect addition. As far as the LehenhofWorkshops are concerned, this co-op-eration creates socio-therapeutic jobsand income for their sheltered people.

Sources of energy Half of our elec-trical energy we obtain straight froma small hydroelectric power stationclose by, whose capacity is used upalmost entirely by our company. Theother half is supplied by GreenpeaceEnergy.

Our heating we provide by jointly op-erating a state-of-the-art woodchipsplant with Camphill WorkshopsLehenhof.

The 3 SonettQuality LevelsQuality Level 1: Selection of raw materials

Sonett laundry detergents andcleaning agents contain no in-gredients which are consideredhazardous to the environmentand health, or causing allergies. This means that no artificial fra-grances or dyestuffs, no syntheticpreservatives, no enzymes, no phos-phates and optical brighteners, nopetrochemical bleaching agentswhich are difficult to degrade, and no petrochemical or partially petro-chemical active washing substances(surfactants) are used.

Active washing substancesThe centerpiece of all the laundrydetergents and cleaning agents arethe active washing substances. As amatter of principle we use pure plant-derived soap wherever possible. Soapis the active substance coming closestin its properties to man and nature. Itis rapidly and completely bio-degrad-able and, compared to all the otheractive washing substances, it has theoutstanding property that right afterits use it reacts chemically with thelimescale always present in waste wa-ter, forming calcium soap. As a result, the surfactant effect of the soap onlive aquatic organisms is being neu-tralised (primary degradation). Sub -sequently the calcium soap is 100 %micro-organically decomposed intocarbon dioxide (CO2) and water (H2O)(secondary degradation).

In order to further improve the soap’sperformance we use coconut oil alco-hol sulphates and sugar surfactantsmade from coconut and sugar derivedfrom corn or potato starch. Thanks to their unchanged natural inner molecular structure these surfactantsare easily detected by microorganismsand are, therefore, rapidly and 100 %bio-degraded. In its compatibility with man and environment this groupof surfactants comes closest to that of soap.

We do not use any ethoxylated prod-ucts such as fatty alcohol ether sul-phates or fatty alcohol ethoxylates. The use of these is quite popular inso-called organic laundry detergentsdescribing themselves in ads as being“non-ionic surfactants based on

plant-derived, respectively renewableraw materials, readily bio-degrad-able”. These names, though soundingpleasant to the non-expert, in most of the cases conceal the fact that thesurfactants consist in part of renew-able raw materials whose molecularstructure was modified using the toxicgas ethylene oxide, which is obtainedfrom carcinogenic petroleum de-rivates. Furthermore, all ethoxylatedsurfactants, due to their method ofmanufacture, contain small quantitiesof the known toxic substance dioxanthe carcinogenic and mutagenic effects of which are well-known.

FragrancesNatural essential oils have beenadded to some of the Sonett prod-ucts. These are used, on the onehand, for their germ-inhibiting effect, and, on the other, for enjoyment and well-being during washing andcleansing. Natural essential oils, which have been developed in thecourse of the year under light andheat, have a harmonizing effect onthe entire human body and have, therefore, been used successfully to cure physical and psychologicaldiseases.

Whereas synthetic aromatic sub-stances which are obtained fromwaste of the pulp industry, such as vanillin used in large quantities, or the synthetic aromatic substances obtained from petroleum derivativeshave an opposite effect. They lead to irritation of the nervous-sensorysystem, proven by studies of hyper -active children in the USA and Europe. Cheap essential oils are oftenadulterated with synthetic aromaticsubstances.

Sonett Quality 5

Note:As a matter of principle we donot use enzymes in order tohave fat (lipases), protein (pro-teases), and amylum (amylases)degrade more easily at lowtemperatures. Enzymes are to befound in almost every conventionallaundry detergent as well as in all ofthe dishwasher detergents. Enzymesare proteins occurring in all plants, animals, and humans. They are in-volved in every metabolic process. Therefore, enzymes are no chemicalsubstances dissolving or bindingdirt; they rather act as organic cata-lysts that virtually “eat up” dirt. Theyare isolated from fungi or bacteria.

This constitutes a major problem.Enzymes are integrated in a live or-ganism and fulfill their specific func-tion. They represent a harmoniouscomponent of the respective livingorganism. If they are detached fromthis organic correlation to achieve acertain effect, enzymes are no longerable to distinguish for example between greasy food residues andhuman cutaneous lipids, and, via enzyme residues in the dry laundry,at random attack the skin whereverit is most moist, i.e. in the neck, elbow, arm pits, etc. thus resulting in sensitisations which, in turn, maycause allergies.

Furthermore, there is the problem-atic nature of genetic engineering assuch. Nowadays almost 100% of all

enzymes used in laundry detergentsare derived from GMOs. If such or-ganisms, artificially modified by manto extreme imbalance, were to inte-grate into the environment, the con-sequences thereof would be unman-ageable and irreversible (see alsoSonett Info: Genetic Engineering inLaundry Detergents).

We have come to consume meta-bolic products of these manipulatedorganisms as “lab ferments” inSwiss high-quality cheese, as a fermentation accelerant in Frenchchampagne, as a baking aid in ourbread and as “valuable vitamin sup-plements” in so-called functionalfood.

The most recent development takesone more step toward manipulation.

Even the protein structure of the enzymes is genetically modified, sothat the enzymes thereof no longeroccur naturally; the justification forthis even farther-reaching manipula-tion of the organism being, amongstother things, improved resistance toheat or increased compatibility withbleaching agents.

Beware of the label: „enzymesguaranteed not to be geneti-cally modified“!

This description is used for enzymeswhich do indeed originate fromGMOs but the protein structure ofwhich has not been modified.

The 3 SonettQuality LevelsQuality Level 2:Raw materials from certified organic cultivation

In addition to the criteria of qualitylevel 1, we increasingly use raw mate-rials from bio-dynamic or certified organic cultivation, such as olive oil, rapeseed oil, sunflower oil, coconutoil, palm oil, essential oils, and balsamic additives.

What is the reason for using certified organically grown rawmaterials in laundry detergentsand cleaning agents?IIn ancient cultures, the cleansing ofthe body and of the garments was aritual act. By undergoing ritual cleans-ing, man got rid of his base impuritiesin order to turn to spiritual matters inpurity. Bodily cleansing and spiritualpurification were the very same.

Nowadays, doing the laundry, clean-ing, and washing the dishes seems tohave become a task to carry out asquickly as possible and, preferably, along with other things – a necessaryevil. Yet, cleanliness continues playinga, by no means insignificant, emo-tional role: Why would we, otherwise, feel the need to wear clean clothes? Why do we feel so incredibly goodsnuggled up in a freshly made bed?Why do we arrange and clean ourhouse before receiving visitors or celebrating a party? Orderliness andcleanliness have something liberatingand satisfying about them which hasan impact on one’s soul.

It is but logical that the substanceswe use to wash and clean withshould comply with this feeling of

cleanliness as well. Despite giving the impression of cleanliness, “un-clean” agents only pretend to achieve“bright cleanliness”, “snug-and-softtouch” or “an even brighter white”.

For the development of formulae for detergents and cleansers, a widerange of substances are available, derived from minerals, plants, ani-mals, and crude oil. If we apply theabove criterion, the selection is re-duced to purely mineral and plant-derived raw materials. Minerals andplants are pure per se. It is only withanimals and human beings that excretion occurs and that the need to keep oneself clean arises.

Petroleum is a plant-derived sub-stance, developed due to the exclu-sion of air and light, and on accountof having been exposed to high pres-sure in geological eras long gone by.Hidden away in earth’s strata, it ful-fills its task within earth’s life struc-ture. Once exposed, it is a substanceextremely hostile towards live organ-isms, destroying cropland, and whichcan barely be degraded by natural microorganisms, and as fuel and energy source is the main culprit forthe CO2 pollution of the atmosphere.

But this “purity law”, involving re-striction to mineral and plant-derivedraw materials, and in particular theavoidance of petrochemical sub-stances, only has very restricted valid-ity. Using conventional methods ofcultivation, the plants are being disturbed, contaminated and violatedin their development. With “normal”methods of cultivation, plants are no longer plants in the true sense. The use of artificial fertilizers alone reduces root growth dramatically.Leaves, petals and fruit become enlarged and fattened, the taste iswatered down and fragrances are diminished. Due to monocultures and

the lack of sequenced crop rotation, conventional cultivation makes regu-lar use of herbicides, pesticides andmeans of enhancing storage stability.Contamination due to chemicalresidues in the plants cannot beavoided and are, therefore, officiallypermitted. Exclusively yield-orientedcultivation also brings the natural im-balance between plants and animalsto the extreme and beyond, e.g. incows which drag their overdevelopedmilk udders over the ground with dif-ficulty or the corn which can produceits ears only with the aid of chemicalstem shortening agents. Genetic engi-neering takes this violation of naturea step further. By tampering with thenucleus of the cell, the plant is forcedto make a fundamental change to itsmetabolism and creative potential, solely to serve financial interests andwithout any appreciation for theessence of the plant.

Plants treated this way and raw mate-rials derived from such plants, e.g.fatty oils or essential oils, have lostlargely in their vitality and dynamicscompared to those plants originatingfrom bio-dynamic or certified organiccultivation. With the aid of holistic research methods, such as spagyriccrystallization or biophoton measure-ment, etc., the differences in qualitybetween plant-derived raw materialsoriginating from organic cultivationand those from conventionally culti-vated plants can be demonstrated to spectacular effect.

Now, one could assume that bychemical conversion of, for instance, oils into soap by means of lye and theeffect of heat, none of the initial bio-logical quality would survive. Yet thespagyric method shows us quite theopposite: For several hours plants arebeing macerated, in heat, with waterand alcohol, and parts of the plant

are incinerated and calcined at over600 °C (1112 °F). The spagyricessences and salts obtained show increased photon radiation, creativepotential and potency if the plant itself was of higher quality. Obviouslythe initial quality of the plant and its further adequate processing are a decisive factor.

It is for this reason, that we use largeamounts of oils and essential oilsfrom certified bio-dynamic and or-ganic cultivations. (More informationto be found in the detailed descrip-tions of each product).

In those cases where no organic rawmaterials are used, they are eithermineral substances or they do not exist at the organic quality level, e.g.sugar-based surfactants or coconut oilalcohol sulphate, or their costliness isan impediment to their use. To consis-tently continue this quality commit-ment, one of our basic concerns is tomanufacture laundry detergents andcleaning agents which are humaneand thus also kind to nature.

Apart from Sonett it is only very fewother manufacturers of ecologicallaundry detergents and cleaningagents that have this approach towards quality level 2, namely to use raw materials from organic cultivation whenever possible.

The 3 SonettQuality LevelsQuality Level 3:The dynamic quality

The third level of our Sonett qualityis determined by the balsamic addi-tives und by applying “life-foster-ing” technology. Furthermore wetreat the entire processing water ofour liquid products in a swirl chainof 12 egg-shaped glass vessels, inwhich the free-flowing water canform beautifully shaped vortexes, thus recharging its energy.

In an oloid mixer we rhythmatise the balsamic additives, which consist of frankincense, gold, myrrh resin, laurel leaves, olive oil, rose salts andmistletoe, and add them, in smalldoses, to the finished laundry deter-gents and cleaning agents. To ourknowledge, only Sonett deals with thetopic of rhythmatisation and applying“life-fostering technology” in the field of ecological laundry detergentsand cleaning agents. We strive tocounteract the centrifugal movementsof rotating mixers and bottling ma-chines, which tend to be hostile to-wards life, by adding these rhythma-tised balsamic additives thus creatinga revitalising lemniscatic impulse.

Thanks to the first crystal analysisstudies it was possible to illustrate the specific quality of the additivestreated in this manner. Judge for yourself as for the effect of thispreparation on the crystal patterns(see illustrations below).

Sales Arguments

When assessing theecological quality oflaundry detergents andcleaning agents, onemay distinguish between 3 levels:

1. Selecting ecologically accept-able ingredients and avoidingthose which are harmful to theenvironment and health. This criterion is complied with by several companies–yet their selection differing considerably inintensity and consistent follow-through.

2. Raw materials such as vegetable oils, essential oils, and alcohol, obtained from bio-dynamic or organic cultivation. To our knowledge, only a limitednumber of producers of ecologicallaundry detergents and cleaningagents have such an approach towards quality.

3. Rhythmatised additives in detergents and swirled water. To our knowledge, only Sonett dealswith the topic rhythmatisation andapplying “life-fostering technology”in the field of ecological laundry detergents and cleaning agents.

Clear dividing lines at this levelare to indicate the ingredientsabsent in the Sonett products:

• No petrochemical raw materials (excepting poly aspartic acid in the Sonett Tablets for Dishwashers)

• No petrochemical or semi-petro-chemical surfactants

• No synthetic fragrances • No synthetic dyestuffs • No synthetic preservatives• No genetically engineered raw materials

• No enzymes • No ingredients which tend to cause allergies

• No phosphates• No optical brighteners (pure petro-chemicals, difficult to degrade; they transform UV light into light which appears blue to our eyes)

• No animal fat or other raw materi-als obtained from carcasses Exception: bovine gall in gall soap (Raw materials obtained from live animals: Lanoline)

Plant-derived and mineral rawmaterials only, instead of thosemade from petrochemicals: (Exception: carboxymethyl inulin and tetrasodium glutamate diacetate inthe Sonett Tablets for Dishwashers)• Purely vegetable surfactants (active washing substances): Soaps made from vegetable oils, sugar surfactants, coconut oil alcohol sulphate, obtained from sugar, starch, coconut respectively palm oil and sulphide

• Pure essential oils • Vegetable alcohol• Citric acid in food-grade quality • Sodium carbonate, silicate, alumina, pumice powder and lime meal

Ecological ingredients and packaging:All of the Sonett products are rapidlyand completely biodegradable re-garding their organic ingredients. The mineral ingredients need no fur-ther degradation in nature. The pack-aging is made of materials readily recyclable such as paper, cardboardbox consisting largely of recyclingmaterial, as well as of PE and PP.

Special features of the SonettProducts regarding their ingredients:Doing the laundry in a modularwashing system instead of using aheavy duty detergent. In traditionalheavy duty detergents, the detergent, softener and bleaching agent are allmixed into one component. If thecomponents are separate from eachother, as is the case with the Sonettmodular washing system, the respec-tive detergent may be used in idealdosage, according to the local waterhardness and the degree of soiling–this being the most economical andecological way of doing your laundry.

• Basic detergent: Made from pure vegetable soap with coconut oil alcohol sulphate and sugar surfactant

• Bleaching agent: Pure oxygen bleach (sodium percarbonate)

• Softener: Silicates (zeolite), sodiumcarbonate and salt of citric acid instead of phosphates

Full Declaration:It is not at all customary that all ofthe ingredients, inclusive of all essen-tial oils, are fully declared accordingto their chemical denominations. Full declaration is to be found on all Sonett Products.

Rhythmatised DetergentAdditives and SwirledWater

Rhythmatised Detergent AdditivesIn many products Sonett employs balsamic additives, which are rhyth-matised in the oloid mixer. These balsamic additives consist of gold, frankincense, myrrh resin, laurel leaves, olive oil, rose salts. These constituents are finely ground undemulsified with water. They are thenrhythmatised in an oloid mixer in lemniscatic figure-eight movements, and added, in small dose, to the Sonett products during the manufac-turing process.

Whereas the centrifugal movementtends to have a life-destroying impact, the pulsating figure-eight movement of inversion has a revitalizing effect.

Swirled Water Water constitutes the main raw mate-rial of all the liquid laundry detergentsand cleaning agents. Water meandersin its natural environment, makeswaves and swirls. All the processingwater in the Sonett production isswirled by passing through twelveglass vessels without undergoingpressure. The water’s very own forcesare being supported and strength-ened.

List of ingredients as per EC 648 / 2004: Sodium soap*,sodium carbonate, bentonite, zeolite, sodium C12–C14 fatty alco-hol sulphate (sodium lauryl sulfate),sodium silicate, sodium metasilicate, sodium disilicate*certified organically grown

Origin and properties of the ingredients:The main active ingredient of the Sonett Laundry Powder is soap, manufactured from various plant-based oils—such as palm oil, rapeseed, sunflower and coconut oil—bysimmering them with alkaline solu-tion. The oils originate 100 % from organic or biodynamic cultivation.Soap as an active washing substanceuniquely amalgamates all of the properties required for the washingprocess—the moistening, dissolving, and absorbing of dirt. Sodium carbon-ate is a result of calcium reactingchemically with common salt. Meta -silicate is obtained by melting quartzsand and sodium carbonate to form a compound. Sodium carbonate andmetasilicate both intensify the wash-ing lye, thanks to their alkalinity, andpromote the removal of fatty sub-stances in particular. Both zeolite Aand phyllosilicate have silicate rock as their basic raw material. In additionto their property of binding lime in

water, these substances also simulta-neously bind the organic substancesand colour pigments dissolved in thesuds and prevent them from beingdeposited on the laundry. Fatty alco-hol sulphate, derived from coconutoil, intensifies the soap’s fat-dissolv-ing property.

Special product feature: It is the modular system with its separate dosage of the 3 main com-ponents of the detergent, namely: - the active washing substances,- the softener,- and the bleaching complex, which really enables the optimal useof the individual substances, depend-ing on the laundry’s degree of soiling, the water hardness and your individ-ual wish for whiteness. For a soap-based detergent, soft water is an ab-solute precondition. Thanks to themodular principle, the basis is thusprovided for making use of the unsur-passed advantages of soap evenwhen hard water conditions prevail. We abstain from using anticakingagents, fillers, optical brighteners, phosphates, and enzymes.

Biodegradability:Soap made from vegetable oils hasone outstanding feature compared toall other active washing substances, namely that, right after its use, it losesits surface active properties immedi-ately on chemically reacting with thecalcium that is always present inwaste water, and neutralises its effecton live organisms (primary degrada-tion). The calcium soap thus formed is then 100 % micro-organically de-graded into carbon dioxide and water(secondary degradation). Coconut oilalcohol sulphate made from natural, renewable raw materials, during manufacturing remains intact in its internal molecular structure. There-fore, it is easily detected and de-graded by microorganisms in thewaste water, thus being reintegratedinto the natural cycle rapidly andcompletely. The remaining constitu-ents of the detergent—sodium carbonate, clay minerals, and sili-cates—are mineral substances which need no further degradation in nature. Soap and coconut oil alcohol sulphate are classified as being readily biodegradable accord -ing to OECD guidelines.Suitable for septic tanks and filtrationsystems.

Origin and properties of the ingredients:In this liquid detergent, soap, sugarsurfactant and fatty alcohol sulphatecomplement each other, thus intensi-fying their effect. At the sametime this combination neutralizes thesoap's drawback, i.e. calcium soapbeing formed, which may precipitateon the laundry should the softenernot have been properly measured. Thealcohol which is obtained by ferment-ing plant-based starch serves to keepthe detergent liquid, thus enabling a highly concentrated active washingsubstance. Sulphated castor oil, alsocalled turkey-red oil, is obtained bycastor oil reacting chemically with sulphuric acid. It intensifies the deter-gents fat-dissolving property.

Special product feature:Sonett's particularly energy-savingmethod of saponification, the use ofoils and essential oils derived fromcertified organic cultivation, and itsgood value for money as far as thewashing liquid’s washing performanceis concerned are the outstanding features of this product.

Origin and properties of the ingredients:Zeolite A (sodium aluminium silicate),the softener’s main ingredient, ismade from the raw materials sodiumsilicate and sodium aluminate whichare easily accessible. This silicateworks according to the principle ofthe ion exchange device, i.e. trappingthe calcium and magnesium ions thecause of hard water, thus producingsoft water for washing with soap de-tergents. Soda (sodium carbonate)manufactured from calcium and com-mon salt, reacts chemically with the limescale in the water, thus eliminat-ing from the washing water one ofthe causes of its hardness. Citrate, the salt of citric acid, obtained by fer-menting sugar-containing by-productssuch as molasses, binds limestoneparticularly at low temperatures.

Special product feature:By adding the softener separately after previously having determinedthe amount necessary, depending onthe local water hardness, the mosteconomical use of the detergent em-ployed is guaranteed. Origin and properties of the ingredients:Sodium percarbonate is a molecularcomplex obtained by hydrogen perox-ide adsorbing on to sodium carbonate(wash soda). Exposed to warmth(from 50 °C /122 °F upwards), the hydrogen peroxide is being brokendown again into water and activeoxygen. With increasing temperaturethe reaction is being accelerated insuch a way that the bleaching effectin the washing machine is at its bestonce reached 95 °C (200 °F). The oxy-gen being released is especially activeon organic stains such as grass stains, fruit stains, etc. by oxidizing thedyestuffs thus making them colour-less, or by turning adhering, stain-causing substances into water-solubleones again by oxidizing them.

Special product feature:Each bleaching wears out the fabric.By adding the bleaching agent sepa-rately, its bleaching effect is employedonly where it is specifically needed for stain removal and white laundry.Oxygen bleaching using sodium per-

List of ingredients as per EC 648 / 2004:Aqua, potassium soap*, alkylpoly -glucoside C8–C16 (coco glucoside), alcohol, sodium/potassium citrate, parfum*, linalool* *certified organically grown

Origin and properties of theingredients:Olive soap: It is from century-oldolive groves of Mediterranean coun-tries such as Italy, Spain and Greecethat the fruit originates. It is used toobtain the olive oil—in certified or-ganically grown quality—by mechan-ical processes such as pressing andcentrifugation. When saponified withpotassium hydroxide, it is the mainconstituent of Sonett’s Olive LaundryLiquid for Wool and Silk. Olive oil isthe best oil raw material for makingmild soap and restoring the deficientprotective hydrolipidic film. Its well-balanced composition of fatty acids, its healing balancing effect on thecardiovascular system, and the re-markable growth of the olive tree ina 7-year cycle, demonstrate the spe-cial proximity and relationship of thisoil to humans. Rapeseed oil / sunflower oil soap: Vegetable oil, saponified with potas-sium hydroxide, serves to intensifythe washing performance. In additionto flax and sunflower, rapeseed isone of the few oil-yielding plantswhich are cultivated for oil produc-tion in our temperate central Euro-pean climate, and are also certifiedorganically grown. Ethanol: It is derived from fermenta-tion of starch-containing plants suchas maize and potatoes. Ethanol helpskeeping the soap liquid, while at thesame time improving the fat-dissolv-ing property of the detergent. Sugar surfactant: Sugar, starch andcoconut oil are the raw materials forthe sugar surfactant used. The pro -portion of sugar surfactant comparedto the soap content of the detergentis such, that it serves for the calciumsoap forming in case of hard water, to be kept finely dispersed and toprevent it from being deposited onthe laundry.

Special product feature:In this product, high-grade pressedolive oil is being processed to obtainsoap which possesses outstandingcleansing properties that are nurtur-ing for woollen and silk fabrics andrestore their deficient protective hy-

drolipidic film. Using sugar surfac-tant, a soap-based detergent for deli-cate fabrics is obtained which is very user-friendly even with hard water, yet maintaining all positive propertiesof a soap-based detergent. Olive oil, rapeseed and sunflower oil as well as the essential lavender oil originate100 % from certified organic cultivation.

Biodegradability: Soap made from vegetable oils hasone outstanding feature, compared to all the other active washing sub-stances, namely that, right after itsuse, it reacts chemically with thelimescale always present in waste water forming calcium soap, thusneutralising its surfactant effect onaquatic organisms (primary degrada-tion). The calcium soap is then, by microorganisms, 100 % degradedinto carbon dioxide and water (sec-ondary degradation). Ethanol is infi-nitely miscible with water and reinte-grates into the natural cycle within afew hours. Despite the fact that dur-ing the manufacturing of sugar sur-factants, constituents are being ex-tracted from the plant-based rawmaterials, i.e. starch, sugar, and fat, they remain completely intact in theirnatural molecular structure. For thisreason it is relatively easy for the mi-croorganisms to 100 % decomposethese surfactants. Soap and sugarsurfactant are classified as beingreadily biodegradable according toOECD guidelines. Suitable for septic tanks and filtrationsystems.

Origin and properties of the ingredients:Wool wax is obtained from freshlyshorn sheep’s wool that underwent aspecial process to remove any pesti-cide and herbicide residues. In orderto be well dispersed in the water andto adhere to the fibres, the wool waxmust be emulsified into fine dropletsusing olive-oil soap and sugar surfac-tant. Sugar, coconut oil and palm oilare the raw materials used to manu-facture sugar surfactant.Olive soap results from the chemicalreaction between olive oil and lye (alkaline solution). Olive oil is the bestoil raw material for making mild lipid-replenishing plant-based soap. Itswell-balanced composition of fattyacids, its healing balancing effect onthe cardiovascular system, and the remarkable growth of the olive tree in a 7-year cycle are evidence of thespecial proximity and relationship of this oil to humans.Cetyl alcohol–obtained from palm oil–and the plant-based thickeningagent enhance the emulsifying effectof sugar surfactant and olive oil soap.

Special product feature:The wool wax used is of pharma-copoeial quality. Origin and properties of the ingredients:Soap being an active washing sub-stance, it is obtained by simply boilingfats with alkaline solution. Every fatbase differs in its washing propertiessomewhat from another because oftheir diversity of origin. Coconut oil as soap base, therefore, possessesparticularly good cleaning perform-ance, even in hard water. Soap madefrom palm oil contributes the requiredfirmness and resistance. The twosoaps combined thus form the opti-mal basis for fully developing thestain-removing property of the gall substance.

Special product feature:A well-tried, highly effective, inexpen-sive stain- and spot-removing agentwhich is incredibly economical in itsuse.

Certification:Ecogarantie, www.ecogarantie.euCSE, www.cse-label.org

Technical data:Soap is slightly alkaline in use. Thegreen chlorophyll colouration of thebars of soap may become lighter byexposure to light. This does not, however, impair the stain-removingperformance of the gall soap. Thebrownish colour appearing is the natural colour of gall.

Biodegradability: Right after its use soap loses its sur-factant properties (primary degrada-tion) under direct reaction withlimescale which is always present inwaste water, thus being no longer in-imical to live organisms. The calciumsoap (formed by the reaction) is then100 % micro-organically decomposedinto carbon dioxide and water (sec-ondary degradation). Bovine gall be-ing a purely natural product is fullydegraded within a few days, and reintegrated into the natural cycle.Soap is classified as being readilybiodegradable according to OECDguidelines.Suitable for septic tanks and filtrationsystems.

Origin and properties of the ingredients:Bovine gall is a traditional stain re-mover. Its principal active ingredients,i.e. the bile acids cholic and tauro-cholic acids, are not only capable offinely dispersing grease and fat-likesubstances but also of dissolvingdyestuffs and forming compoundswith them. Soap manufactured fromrapeseed / sunflower oil and olive oilwith lye (alkaline solution), swells anddissolves the dirt and supports thestain-removing performance propertyof the bovine gall. Sugar surfactant isobtained from pure plant-based rawmaterials–sugar, starch and coconutoil–and their chemical reaction withacids. the sugar surfactant and fatty alcoholsulphate, which are obtained by thechemical reaction of the purely plant-based raw materials sugar, starch andcoconut oil with acids. At the sametime this combination neutralizes thesoap's drawback, i. e. calcium soapbeing formed, which may precipitateon the laundry should the softenernot have been properly measured. Thealcohol which is obtained by ferment-ing plant-based starch serves to keep the detergent liquid, thus enabling ahighly concentrated active washingsubstance. Sulphated castor oil, alsocalled turkey-red oil, is obtained bycastor oil reacting chemically with sulphuric acid. It intensifies the deter-gents fat-dissolving property.

Special product feature:Sonett's particularly energy-savingmethod of saponification, the use of oils and essential oils derived fromcertified organic cultivation, and itsgood value for money as far as thelaundry liquid’s washing performanceis concerned are the outstanding features of this product.

Biodegradability: Soap made from vegetable oils hasone outstanding feature compared to all the other active washing sub-stances, namely that, right after its use, it reacts chemically with thelimescale always present in waste water, resulting in calcium soap, thusneutralising its surfactant effect onaquatic organisms (primary degrada-tion). The calcium soap is then, by microorganisms, 100 % degraded intocarbon dioxide and water (secondarydegradation). Despite the fact thatduring the manufacturing of sugarsurfactants, coconut oil alcohol sul-phate and sulphated castor oil, con-stituents are being extracted from the plant-based raw materials starch, sugar, and fat, they remain completelyintact in their natural molecular struc-ture. For this reason it is relativelyeasy for the microorganisms to 100 %decompose these surfactants. Citricacids and their salts are an integralpart of plant, animal and human organisms and are, therefore, rapidlyand completely degraded into carbondioxide and water by microorganismspresent in nature. Soap, sugar surfac-tant, citric acid, coconut oil alcoholsulphate, and sulphated castor oil areclassified as being readily biodegrad-able according to OECD guidelines. formed and the dirt are kept finelydispersed. The third active ingredientis organic Quillaja. By extracting theliquid from the bark of the SouthAmerican organic Quillaja saponaria,a stain-removing agent is obtainedwhich is highly efficient yet gentle onthe colours and develops its cleansingperformance even at low temperature.Sodium carbonate is a result of cal-cium reacting chemically with com-mon salt. Silicates are obtained bymelting quartz sand and sodium car-bonate to form a compound. Sodiumcarbonate and silicates both intensifythe washing lye, thanks to their alka-linity, and promote the removal offatty substances in particular. Zeoliteand citrate, the salt of citric acid, bothbind limestone in the water and pre-vent deposits in the washing machineand on fabrics. Zeolite is made fromthe raw materials sodium silicate andsodium aluminate which are easily ac-cessible. This silicate works accordingto the principle of the ion exchangedevice, i.e. trapping the calcium andmagnesium ions the cause of hardwater, thus producing soft water forwashing with soap detergents. Citrateobtained by fermenting sugar-con-taining by-products such as molasses, binds limestone particularly at lowtemperatures.

Special product feature:Highly concentrated laundry powderindicated for every coloured and deli-cate fabric, containing organic Quil-laja saponaria extract, which is fa-mous for its efficient fat-dissolvingperformance. It contains no petro-chemical lime bonding agent such aspoly aspartic acid, but merely the nat-ural salt of citric acid (citrate). Suitablefor all ranges of water hardness; noseparate softening agent necessary.

Origin and properties of the ingredients:Olive soap: It is from century-old olivegroves of Mediterranean countriessuch as Italy, Spain and Greece thatthe fruit originates. It is used to ob-tain the olive oil—in certified organi-cally grown quality—by mechanicalprocesses such as pressing and cen-trifugation. When saponified withpotassium hydroxide, it is the mainconstituent of Sonett’s Olive LaundryLiquid for Wool and Silk. Olive oil isthe best oil raw material for makingmild soap and restoring the deficientprotective hydrolipidic film. Its well-balanced composition of fatty acids, its healing balancing effect on thecardiovascular system, and the re-markable growth of the olive tree in a7-year cycle, demonstrate the specialproximity and relationship of this oilto humans. Rapeseed oil / sunflower oil soap:Vegetable oil, saponified with potas-

sium hydroxide, serves to intensify the washing performance. In additionto flax and sunflower, rapeseed is one of the few oil-yielding plantswhich are cultivated for oil productionin our temperate central European climate, and are also certified organi-cally grown. The pro-portion of sugar surfactant comparedto the soap content of the detergentis such, that it serves for the calciumsoap forming in case of hard water, to be kept finely dispersed and toprevent it from being deposited onthe laundry.

Special product feature:In this product, high-grade pressedolive oil is being processed to obtainsoap which possesses outstandingcleansing properties that are nurtur-ing for woollen and silk fabrics andrestore their deficient protective hy-drolipidic film. Using sugar surfactant,a soap-based detergent for delicatefabrics is obtained which is very user-friendly even with hard water, yetmaintaining all positive properties ofa soap-based detergent. Special product feature:This curd soap is manufactured with-out using fillers, dyestuffs, fragrances, optical brighteners, and, above all, without any petrochemical complex-ing agents such as EDTA. It is thor-oughly matured before being put onsale which increases its shelf life. The slightly brown colouration of curdsoap when stored for several years isa sign of the purely natural quality ofthis product and, in no way, impairsits quality and washing performance.

Certification:Ecogarantie, www.ecogarantie.euCSE, www.cse-label.orgVegan Society www.vegansociety.com

Technical data:Soap is slightly alcalic in its use.pH value: 20 °C, 5 g / litre H2O 68 °F, 0.18 oz / 34 fl oz US H2Oapprox. 9–9.5

Biodegradability: Soap is the only active washing sub-stance which right after its use losesits surfactant properties under directreaction with limescale which is al-ways present in waste water, thus be-coming non-toxic to live aquatic or-ganisms (primary degradation). Thecalcium soap (formed by the reaction)is then 100 % micro-organically de-composed into carbon dioxide andwater (secondary degradation). Soap is classified as being readily biodegradable according to OECDguidelines.

Technical Data:Density: (20 °C) ca. 1,003 g / cm³68 °F approx. 0.035 oz / in³pH value: undiluted approx. 8.5–9

Biodegradability:Soap made from vegetable oils hasthe unique property that, right afterits use, it reacts chemically with the limescale always present in wastewater, forming calcium soap. As a result, the surfactant effect of thesoap is being neutralized (primary degradation). This primary degrada-tion takes place within a few hours.Subsequently the calcium soap is, by microorganisms, 100% decomposedinto carbon dioxide and water (secondary degradation). Ethanolreintegrates into the natural cyclewithin a few hours. Apart from natural glycerine released from theoils during saponification, we addplant-based glycerine which bindsmoisture. Despite the fact that duringthe manufacturing of sugar sur-factants, constituents are being ex-tracted from the plant-based raw materials starch, sugar, and fat, theyremain completely intact in their natural molecular structure. For thisreason it is relatively easy for the microorganisms to 100% decomposethese surfactants rapidly.Soap and sugar surfactant are classi-fied as being readily biodegradableaccording to OECD guidelines.

Biodegradability: Silicates and sodium carbonate aremineral substances which in natureneed no further decomposition. Cit-rate, a substance present in plants, animals and humans, is completelydegraded by nature within 2 to 3days, thanks to microorganisms natu-rally present. Sodium percarbonate, during the washing and bleachingprocess, disintegrates into mineralsoda, water, and oxygen, thus leavingthe dishwasher in a state which requires no further degradation; i.e.bleaching and degradation are oneand the same process. In the manu-facturing process of sugar surfactantsand sulphated castor oil, constituentsare extracted from the plant-basedraw materials starch, sugar and fat,but remaining intact in their naturalstructure. This makes it quite easy forthe microorganisms to 100 % de-grade these surfactants very rapidly. Citrate, carboxymethyl inulin, tetra-sodium glutamate diacetate, sodiumgluconate, sugar surfactants, and sulphated castor oil are classified asbeing readily biodegradable accord-ing to OECD. oxygen, in addition to water andsodium carbonate. The oxygen thusreleased serves to remove tea andcoffee residues from glasses andcups. Sodium percarbonate is a mo-lecular complex obtained by hydrogenperoxide adsorbing on to sodium car-bonate. Citrate, obtained by ferment-ing sugar-containing by-productssuch as molasses, is added to thedishwasher liquid to bind lime in thedishwashing water and to protect the machine from deposits. Due tothe fact that, despite built-in ion exchangers (water-softener devices)many dishwashers still feed too muchcalcareous water, the citrate is inten-sified by the lime-binding propertiesof sodium gluconate, carboxymethylinulin, and tetrasodium glutamate diacetate. Sodium gluconate is thesodium salt of gluconic acids naturallyoccurring in honey and fruits. Carboxymethyl inulin is manufacturedby the carboxy methylation of starchinulin extracted from chicory roots.Tetrasodium glutamate diacetate consists 86% of renewable naturalproducts containing starch and sugar.

List of ingredients as per EC 648 / 2004: Sodium citrate, sodium carbonate, sodium percarbonate, tetra sodiumglutamate diacetate, carboxymethylinulin, sodium metasilicate, sodiumbicarbonate, sodium silicate, sul-phated castor oil, alkylpolyglucosideC8–C16 (coco glucoside), sodium gluconate, potassium soap**certified organically grown

Origin and properties of the ingredients:The main active ingredients inSonett’s Tablets for Dishwashers are sodium carbonate, silicates, andsulphated castor oil. Silicates are obtained by fusing sand with sodiumcarbonate and, thanks to their alka-linity, are capable of modifyinggrease on dishes by saponification, thus making it water-soluble. Thesesilicates make stuck-on food leftoversswell, thus loosening them. Sodiumcarbonate, manufactured from com-mon salt and lime, disperses thegrease into fine droplets, thus sup-porting the fat-dissolving property of the silicates. By adding smallamounts of sulphated castor oil, the surface tension of the water is reduced, resulting in the dirt beingwetted more easily by the water. Sulphated castor oil, also calledturkey-red oil, is obtained by the direct reaction of castor oil with sul-phuric acid. In addition, the tabletscontain bleaching oxygen (sodiumpercarbonate). During the washingcycle, sodium percarbonate releases

Regenerating SaltFor dishwashers

Sales units / Containers:

6 x 2 kg bagNET 4.4 lb EAN Code: 4007547 40300 0

UBA: 036 000 27

Ranges of application:An integral part of every dishwashingmachine is an ion exchanger whichtraps the calcium and magnesiumions, the cause of hard water, andfeeds soft water into the machine. This is intended to prevent limescaledeposits on glasses and cutlery. If theion exchanger becomes saturatedwith calcium and magnesium ions, itsabsorbing capacity must be restoredagain by means of regeneration. For this purpose, we use regeneratingsalt which has the effect of exchang-ing the hardness ions, thus ensuringoptimal rinsing results.

Application / Dosage:As soon as the dishwasher’s ‘saltneeded’ light turns on, fill the desig-nated salt compartment with regener-ating salt according to the machinemanufacturer's instructions for use.Experience shows that some ma-chines indicate their need for salt replenishment at a very late state. To prevent this, the regenerating saltcompartment should be regularly refilled even though the display doesnot yet indicate the respective need.Had the salt compartment been completely emptied, wait for about 2 hours after replenishing it beforeswitching the machine on again; thisgives the ion exchanger sufficienttime to regenerate.

Correct setting of the ion exchanger(water softener): Adjust the built-inwater softener in your dishwasher to be 8 °dH (German degrees) above your local water hardness. For doing so, please consult the Instructions for Use of your Dish-washer, section “Water Softener” (see also Sonett Info Sheet “Dish-washer Detergent, Clear Rinse, Regenerating Salt”)

Product declaration:Pure coarse-grained evaporated common salt . . . . . . . . . . . . . 100 %

List of ingredients as per EC 648 / 2004:Sodium chloride

Origin and properties of the ingredients:In rock salt deposits, the salt is broken up, dissolved in water andcrystallized into coarse grains. Thus all impurities are removed. As a con-centrated solution in the salt com-partment of the dishwasher, it ex-changes the bonded calcium andmagnesium ions for the sodium ionsof the regenerating salt so that theion exchanger can once again supplysoft water.

Special product feature:The Regenerating Salt is pure crystal-lized evaporated salt, without the addition of any anticaking agents, synthetic dyestuffs or other sub-stances.

Certification:Ecogarantie, www.ecogarantie.euCSE, www.cse-label.orgVegan Society, www.vegansociety.com

Technical data:Common salt reacts pH neutral in an aqueous solution.

Biodegradability: Common salt (sodium chloride) is anatural constituent of our aquatic en-vironment. Common salt is a mineralby nature and does not need to befurther degraded, but it can con-tribute–albeit to a relatively minor extent–to an increase in the salt loadof our water. For medium-hard water, approx. 40–50 g (1.4–1.8 oz) of salt are fed into the waste water per washing cycle.
