Sunday, March 19, 2017 9am Reflective Worship Service

The power to change the world isn’t limited to

particular people, parties, heroes or “sheroes.” It

will not be found waiting for your next Senior Pastor

to arrive. Nor is it buried in busyness, celebrity,

fear, worry, bullying, or noisy rants or aimless

protests.

Our power to change the world lies within our

ability to choose love over fear, hope over hurt, and

compassion over comparison. Medieval mystic,

Saint Theresa of Avila, likens the journey to that of

castle with many courts, obstacles and chambers.

As we journey deeper within we find increasing

richness, intimacy and authenticity in our

relationships. We also find that to journey deeper,

each subsequent layer presents bigger and scarier

dragons that we must confront and slay.

Perhaps, in this time when humility is rare and

compassion so lacking, the most powerful and

prophetic thing we might do is to listen more deeply

for the Voice of Hope; locate our authentic voice,

and practice using our voice in ways that lovingly,

compassionately, humbly and justly give voice to

others. And perhaps in doing so, we may find

ourselves not only confronting untold dragons, but

also changing the world for good.

Peace,

Rev Kev

Welcome First Time Visitor We are honored that you are worshipping with us this morning. Our community is diverse and come from many different traditions, backgrounds and life situations. Wherever you are on your life or Spiritual Journey you are welcome at Founders MCC. Here are answers to a few common questions that we hope will make your visit more pleasant:

Greeting one another in Service Following our opening song we pause to greet and welcome one another. Feel free to participate in these greetings as much or as little as you would like.

Social time following worship Each Sunday we offer snacks and beverages following worship. It is a great way to get to know a few people and find answers to your questions. Social time usually takes place in Fellowship Hall (listed on the Helpful Information section) and on occasion in the court yard.

Video Recording Our worship services are live streamed as well as archived on our website for international distribution. If you do not wish to be recorded, please sit in the rear right section of the main floor, pulpit side.

Communion We serve communion each Sunday and it is open to everyone. We use wafers and unfermented grape juice.

Ushers help direct when and where to go for communion

Servers dip a small wafer in juice, serve you and offer a brief blessing

You may serve yourself. Just let the server know your preference.

You may ask for a blessing from the server without receiving the bread and juice.

You may receive communion alone or with a loved one(s).

You may also take communion without a server at the private station to the right of the pulpit on the main floor.

You need not receive communion and may remain in your seat.

You are invited to use this time for personal reflection or join in singing songs during communion.

Helpful Information Elevator Access Elevator access to the Theatre, Fellowship Hall, and the Rodney, Gandhi, Rosa Parks, and Upper Rooms is available via the rear Rodney Avenue entrance.

Seeking Candidates to fill Pastoral Search Team Vacancy!

The Pastoral Search Team is charged with shepherding the process by which FMCC will identify and screen candidates – and subsequently elect - and FMCC’s next settled Senior Pastor. In accordance with our by-laws Pastoral Search Team members are elected by the congregation at a Congregational Meeting.

Do you have a passion for FMCC and hope for our future? Able to listen? Willing to honor transparency of the process and confidentiality of potential candidates? Applications are available in our weekly eNews, in the office, and in fellowship hall.

Did you know?

It is told that New England church was experiencing a difference opinion within the congregation. The argument had progress to such an extent that the choir had become rebellious.

Dr. Samuel West, the pastor, received word that the choir was going to express its displeasure by refusing to sing on the following Sunday. The pastor averted any trouble, cleverly and uniquely, by rising on the Sabbath morning in the Church Service and announcing the opening hymn as 'Come, We Who Love the Lord.'

After reading the first verse through very slowly, he turned to the choir and requested that they leading the singing of the second verse:

Let those refuse to sing who never knew our God...

It goes without saying, that the choir could do nothing but abide by their pastor’s resourceful request!"

Seeking applicants for FMCC Board

If you have a passion for FMCC and have gifts in areas such as governance, strategy, finance or fund development we encourage you to discern whether you might be called to serve on the FMCC Board.

Our Board consists of 6 members elected from the congregation and the Senior Pastor. Applications are available in our weekly eNews, in the office, and in fellowship hall. Questions: [email protected]
