The Call to Worship (Psalm 118)This is the day our God has made! Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Please rise as you are able. Opening Affirmation

Sunshine Cathedral is a diff erent kind of church where the past is past and the future has infi nite possibilities.

Collect

Let us know and declare together:The light of God surrounds us; the love of God

enfolds us. The power of God protects us; the presence of God watches over us. Wherever we are, God is, and all is well. Amen.

A reading from the Wisdom of the Apostle PaulRomans 8.26-28 (NAB)

“…the Spirit…comes to the aid of our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but the Spirit…intercedes with inexpressible groaning. And the one who searches hearts knows what is the intention of the Spirit, because it intercedes for the holy ones according to God’s will. We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to [God’s] purpose.”

In these human words, God’s voice is heard. Thanks be to God.

A reading from the Wisdom of David H Eaton

“All living substance, all substance of energy, being, and purpose, are united and share the same destiny. All people, those we love and those we know not of are united and share the same destiny. Birth-to-death we share this unity with the sun, earth, our brothers and sisters, strangers, fl owers in the fi eld, snowfl akes, volcanoes and moonbeams…May we have the faith to accept this mystery and build upon its everlasting truth.”

In these human words, God’s voice is heard. Thanks be to God.

Please rise as you are able.Gradual

Forward Through the Ages Wider grows the vision, realm of love and light;

for it we must labor, till our faith is sight. Prophets have proclaimed it, martyrs testifi ed,

poets sung its glory, heroes for it died. Forward through the ages, in unbroken line,

move the faithful spirits at the call divine.

A reading from the Gospel according to Matthew13.33 (NAB)

[Jesus] spoke to them another parable: “The [Realm] of heaven is like yeast that a woman took and mixed with three measures of wheat fl our until the whole batch was leavened.”

In these human words, God’s voice is heard. Thanks be to God.

ResponseForward through the ages, in unbroken line,

move the faithful spirits at the call divine.

Please be seated.

One bread we bless and shareOne cup of wine out-poured

Is not the bread we breakA sharing in our eyes

In our bread the grain of wheat becomes the source of life

Become our sacred meal with Christ, the living word

Is not the cup we blessThe hope of Christ out-poured

In our wine the fruit of Christ has conquered fear and more

Two bike racks have been installed on the south end of the Courtyard. For those who bike to Sunshine Cathedral, please use the bike racks instead of locking bikes to any other object. This will prevent the blocking public areas, passageways and sidewalks.

Don’t Let Your Butt Hit the GroundNew cigarette disposal “smokers” have been placed

in the Courtyard. Please help us keep the area clean by asking those who smoke to please use the smokers to dispose of their butts. Don’t use fl ower pots or the ground, but properly dispose of cigarette butts in the smokers so we can keep the campus clean. Thank you.

Bequests should be left to the Sunshine Cathedral Foundation.

To join the hand bells, just come to rehearsal on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 pm. To play in the band, simply contact Sara Burns.

New flooring and seating are coming in October!

Loaves and Fishes Next Sunday, August 6, is Loaves and Fishes Sunday.

Please bring your non-perishable food donations to the donations table on the south side of the sanctuary.

Hot Topic Discussion: Pride and PrejudiceThe “Justice and Compassion” Hot Topic Series ends on

Saturday, August 5, with what is sure to be an engaging and enlightening discussion. Over the past few months the LGBTQIA+ community throughout the country has been immersed in an internal conversation about inclusivity within our own ranks. We have had disruptions to Pride parades and other community celebrations as well as controversial moves to express greater inclusivity such as modifi cation of the rainbow fl ag. What do these developments mean for our community in this time of resistance and protest? Let’s share our own thoughts and feelings and be open to hearing from those who think and feel diff erently. 10 am to 11:30 am in the Social Hall. Coff ee and light refreshments on hand.

Summer GivingWe ask you to remember the Sunshine Cathedral during

your summer travels. Attendance and giving tend to dip in the summer, but the cost of doing ministry remains constant. It is also a good spiritual discipline to remain faithful in supporting one’s spiritual home. As you feel led and are able, please support Sunshine Cathedral all year long. Your contributions make ministry possible, and our ministry blesses many lives. Thank you for your generosity.

Need Pastoral Care? Are you sick at home and would

like someone to pay you a visit? Are you in the hospital or in rehab and would like someone to bring you Holy Communion? Are you facing a challenge and would like someone to pray with you? We have clergy, deacons, chaplains, and prayer practitioners ready to help. What we don’t have is a functioning crystal ball that will let us know that you need or want their services. However, if you call or email the church offi ces and let us know of your need, we are only too happy to send one of our loving and committed pastoral care providers your way. Just let us know.

Alumni Seat DonationsA fun and easy way to donate another seat for our

seating campaign and at the same time honor the various schools that helped to shape us is for alums of various schools to get together and share the cost of a seat ($553) and give it in the name of the alma mater. If you are interested in honoring your alma mater with a seat in our worship center, fi nd other graduates of your school and contact Rev. Dr. Robert Griffi n ([email protected]).

From New Seating Q & A Q – Will there be an individual name plaque on each chair?A – As stated since December 2016, chairs can be donated In Honor or In Memory of someone (only the individual name will appear – one name per chair/plaque) – an appropriate size plaque will be placed on chair. A name plaque does not reserve seating for the person whose name is on the plaque. We want to keep all the chairs uniform with just one name per chair. The donor gets to decide whose name is displayed.

Help Us Get New SeatsPlease make a donation or a pledge toward the Seating

Campaign (CCIV). For every $553 given (at once, or by pledges fulfi lled), the donor will have a name placed on one chair. You aren’t reserving “your spot” but you are making it possible for the entire church to have safe, comfortable seating that will make everyone feel more welcome.

We are asking every person who calls Sunshine Cathedral “home” to donate at least $553 to this project (at once, or over a period of weeks) above and beyond regular tithes and donations. For more information please contact Rev. Dr. Robert Griffin, Executive Minister ([email protected]). Thank you to our initial donors!
