In New Zealand we’ve got a saying about getting things done “with a bit of number eight fencing

wire”. What that means is that we’re a nation of resourceful people who like a challenge, and have a

positive innovative ‘can do’ attitude.

When I fi rst started out hand making wetsuits out of a room in my house I would imagine about where Orca could go. Fast forward 15 years and in recent times we’ve had the last two Ironman World

Champions swimming in Orca wetsuits, a man has swum the length of the Amazon in Orca, and fellow New Zealander William Trubridge is free diving to new depths of the ocean in an Orca wetsuit.

This year we’ve taken the decision to give back to the ocean that has been so much of the inspiration for the Orca brand. Early in 2009 I met a group of people with a shared interest in protecting the

world’s oceans. They’ve formed a group called Project Kaisei, and with the number eight fencing wire spirit, their goal is to work out a way to reduce the impact of some of the estimated 100 million

tons of plastic found in the oceans.

In addition to the contribution of profi ts to Project Kaisei Orca as a business will be making changes to reduce the impact we make on plastics in the ocean. So many of our products are designed to

improve performance and people’s enjoyment of being in the water, and of course for the mammal from which the brand takes its name and inspiration, clean oceans are vital.

The Orca Alpha offers a wetsuit swim like you’ve never

experienced before. You get amazing fl exibility, fi t and comfort

from the Yamamoto #40 Cell neoprene, which has been shaped

for maximum stretch across the wetsuit, while the Nano SCS

coating generates increased speed and buoyancy.

At the heart of Alpha’s unbelievable fl exibility is the FreeStroke

3 System, which comprises of three unique 1.5mm panels, each

designed to address a key area of the stroke phase. The seamless

FreeWing panel runs from the lateral area, through the underarm

and across the chest for incredible reach through the entry and catch

phase of the stroke. During the pull-through phase of the stroke the

FreeFlex back panel allows the trapezius and latissimus muscles

to work unhindered, driving you through the water. The FreeFly arm

panel is integral in limiting resistance on the deltoids, reducing the

effort required in the recovery phase of the stroke. Meanwhile, what

lies beneath is just as important. The 4 Way Free Stretch lining is

constructed from a high stretch nylon, allowing the wetsuit to move

dynamically with the wearer. The Alpha also features Orca’s new

AquaTread forearm panel. 3mm neoprene has been pressed into a

tyre tread-like surface, to grab at the water. The panel has also been

moulded to increase the water catchment area, increasing power

with each stroke. 5mm panels of Yamamoto’s latest AeroDome

neoprene have been placed on the front and rear of the torso, using

hundreds of internally crafted air cavities to generate 30% more

buoyancy.

Balancing buoyancy with fl exibility, the 3mm Core Xtension sector

is used across the chest to allow for full body rotation and reach

through each stroke.

The all new Orca 3.8 has been further refi ned to provide more

The Orca Sonar has been recognised around the world as the

Orca has re-written the text book for entry level triathlon

Constructed from 4mm neoprene, the Hydro Bootie is the ideal open water swimming partner to a wetsuit in cold water conditions. The Hydro Bootie includes Orca’s stretch silicone sole, which provides ‘non slip’ protection and abrasion resistance, and a split-toe design to avoid “rolling” on the foot. Adjustable Velcro closures make this bootie suitable to be worn either over or under your wetsuit.

AQUA GLIDE - Orca Aqua Glide has been re-engineered as a higher

gauge fabric – a tighter knit, for lighter, more breathable comfort

and increased durability. Water resistant qualities promote speed

through the water, while minimising water absorption. Featuring

Lycra inside a polyamide yarn for extra defence against chlorine and

bacteria, Aqua Glide keeps athletes cool, dry and comfortable.

CLEAR10,000 - Clear10,000 comprises a unique two layer, two-

way stretch fabric, balancing effective water resistance with

breathability. The material is very lightweight and uses a fi ne

polyester knit and a clear laminate for excellent performance

characteristics and a striking see-through fi nish. The 8000mm

waterproof rating and a moisture vapour permeability of 10,000

mean Clear10,000 is perfect for lightweight protection from the

elements.

FORM™ - Designed to act as a close-wearing, next-to-skin fabric,

Form™ stretches and contracts with the wearer’s movements. The

fabric weave is tight yet breathable, providing a balance of stretch and

compression to hold muscles fi rmly in place. This reduces muscle

vibration, a major cause of muscle fatigue – resulting in less exertion

with more energy to invest into overall output. Orca Form™ stretches

FORM FLEX™ - Orca Flex-Form is a strengthened nylon/spandex

fabric, which is stronger than traditional fabric used in cycle shorts.

The knitted fabric provides a thicker weave with good stretch and

recovery, making it ideal for the rigours of off road cycling.

STRENGTH I COMPRESSION

KINETIC – With a diagonal back pique weave Orca’s new Kinetic

fabric is ideal for use in garments where comfort and movement are

important. Kinetic has excellent moisture wicking qualities and the

300gsm fabric has a soft hand feel.

KILLASKN™ - When Orca fi rst introduced KillaSkn™ it created

a following around the world with triathletes who recognised the

benefi ts the unique 40 gauge fabric brings to competition. Orca has

now refi ned KillaSkn™ so that the knitted fabric is more densely

woven, lighter and more water repellent than other triathlon fabrics.

The infused water repellent treatment creates less drag, increasing

speed through the water and reducing friction on the bike and run.

KillaSkn™ is ultra thin and highly breathable, acting as a super fast

second skin for triathletes.

a 70 denier, circular knit construction to provide optimum levels of

muscle support and performance. Panels of Killaskn Kompress™

circulation and oxygenation and encouraging more rapid muscle

recovery. Killaskn Kompress™ is antibacterial and ideal for use in

next-skin-fabrics used for high energy activities, or pre and post

exercise.

PROFILE – The tight knit of Orca’s new Profi le fabric provides high

TOUCH-LITE – Orca’s new Touch-Lite fabric has a terry style loop

back, with a soft hand feel on the face. With a light and comfortable

drape Touch-Lite balances next-to-skin comfort with the performance

of a moisture wicking active fabric.

X-FLOW – The new X-Flow fabric is a lightweight jersey with a gauze

look to it that provides excellent breathability. The fabric is perfectly

ULTRALITE - Orca’s new UltraLite is constructed from hollow core

aqua pocket consists of a unique, streamlined overlapping seam

providing storage for gels and other race nutrition that won’t slow

you down in the water.

FLATLOCK STITCHING - A stitching technique which joins fabrics

edge to edge, resulting in a low bulk, fl exible stretch seam which

INFUSED WATER RESISTANT - This is the result of a process which

makes fabric waterproof by applying a liquid compound directly

onto the fabric surface, then applying heat pressure to infuse the

coating into the fabric. This process is carried out in a series of

very thin layers, which then dry to form an infused waterproof, yet

fl exible, lightweight and breathable barrier against water entry.
