Principal‘s Message:

Quote: “You don’t get harmony when everyone sings the same note.”- Doug Floyd.

Last Friday Orana Heights took a large number of athletes to the District Carnival at Barden Park. All reports about the day were suppor ve of the good sportsmanship shown by the OHPS team. Thanks to the staff who a ended and made this carnival such a success. Dubbo is fortunate to have a high standard spor ng complex and our students benefit from this local resource. Congratula ons to all the students who a ended and represented our school.

Today is going to be a li le warmer and this is a good me to make a check on your child’s brimmed school uniform hat. We do monitor this at school as our no hat, play in the shade is in place all year around. As seen in our photos, we would also like to acknowledge Chelsea on her entry to an interna onal art project. Chelsea has been chosen to have her art displayed in a sister city in Japan. Her talents are certainly recognised in school and now she will be sharing across the seas.

This Friday the whole school will be par cipa ng in a “Science Day”. Students will have the opportunity to be involved in experiments and engineering ac vi es to support this curriculum area. Teachers are busy planning their resources and organising their equipment for this fun filled day! The canteen is also working to have a special “Meal Deal” day following the science theme.

NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test This term from 14 August to 22 September schools across NSW will be par cipa ng in the NAPLAN Online school readiness test. The school readiness test is a ‘prac ce run’ designed to help schools assess their technical and administra ve readiness for the transi on to NAPLAN Online.

Orana Heights PS students in years 3 and 5 will be par cipa ng in the readiness test between Monday 28 August and Friday 1st September 2017.

The readiness test will involve students in year 3, 5, 7 and 9 si ng two, 40‐minute assessments, a wri ng test and a combined numeracy/literacy test. (Year 3 students will not par cipate in the wri ng test).

Student par cipa on in the readiness test is an opportunity for them to become familiar with the NAPLAN Online test format. It is not an assessment of student ability and there will be no repor ng of student results. It is important to note that par cipa on in the school readiness test has no effect on students’ NAPLAN results from the paper‐based tests students sat in May.

There’s a lot more informa on on the department’s NAPLAN Online website: h ps://educa on.nsw.gov.au/teaching‐and‐learning/student‐assessment/naplan‐online
