OCT provides about a 10X improvement in axial and lateral resolution and at least a 20X improvement in pullback speed. The C7 system scans a 50mm arterial segment in 2.5 seconds. It takes approximately 1.5 to 2 seconds of contrast flush (@4ml/sec) to clear the artery of blood prior to the pullback being initiated. So the entire run can be completed in less than 5 seconds!

What I Can’t Do With IVUS

1. Clearly see what I am doing 2. Image thrombus 3. Determine thin cap fibroatheroma (TCFA)

and hence possible vulnerable plaque 4. Visualize bio-absorbable stents 5. Visualize spontaneous dissection well 6. Determine measurements in small vessels < 3 mm with accuracy 7. Image the vessel in a timely fashion
