BeforeChristmas,1891

Christmas of 1891 Hong Kong was one of the happiest yuletide celebrations in Rizal’ s life, for he had a happy family reunion. To Blumenttrit:

‘Here we are all living together, my parents, sisters, and brother,in

peace and far from the perse-cutions they suffered in the

Philippines. They arevery much pleased with

the English government.´

an epidemic. Through the newspapers, I am informed that this sickness is also causing

OPTHALMIC SURGEON IN HONG KONG…

Dear diary,

He (Rizal) had all the qualities that would

make an ideal ophthalmic surgeon, keen and

analytical intellect, lightness of touch and artistry

of a painter, courage and imperturbability, a

broad and deep knowledge of medicine and

ophthalmology, and last but not least, he had

been properly and adequately trained by masterophthalmic surgeons.´

BORNEO COLONIZATION

PROJECT* Because of the hardship of the Calamba folks under Gov. Gen.

* Juan and Antonio Luna, Lopez Jaena, Blumentritt, Dr. Bautista Lin, etc. enthusiastically endorsed his project.

* Manuel Hidalgo objected the project

* Governor Wyler was relieved of his guberna-torial office. Inthe belief that Governor Despujol was sincere in hisbeautiful promises, Rizal sent him a letter of felicitation andoffering his cooperation.

* Despujol did not give Rizal the courtesy of reply.
