A Paid Summer Opportunity: Summer Operations Coordinator About Breakthrough Manchester Breakthrough Manchester is an intensive, year-round, academic enrichment program for promising middle school students, many of whom will be the first in their families to attain a college degree. The classes at Breakthrough are taught by outstanding high school and college students who are our teacher interns. Through this unique “students teaching students” model, the program provides a path to college for its younger students while inspiring older students to pursue careers in education. The Princeton Review has named Breakthrough a Top Ten Internship for students in America. Position Overview The Summer Operations Coordinator manages and oversees important logistical elements of Breakthrough’s eight-week summer session, working closely with the professional team, Mentor Teachers, and teacher interns. While the Operations Manager will help with a broad array of program support initiatives, primary responsibilities will include: Oversee daily and weekly schedules; create special schedules with faculty committees. Manage space usage, technology, and miscellaneous equipment requests. Order supplies for classes and general office/art supplies. Manage student transportation needs, oversee daily student dismissal procedures. Manage kitchen and food program; communicate with school district food program personnel. Serve as a liaison between Breakthrough other programs on Derryfield’s campus. Support faculty committees and staff in preparation for special events (including parnet conferences, Back to School Night, Alumni Reunion, and Visitors’ Days). Provide basic technology support (e.g. copier/printer maintenance, computer login help, overhead projector training). Assist professional staff, Mentor Teachers, and AdComm Head with logistical tasks as needed. Attend daily briefing meetings with professional team. Create new content for and manage announcements on Breakthrough website. Qualifications Excellent communication and organization skills required. Proven commitment to educational success. High school diploma required; undergraduate degree preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications required; proficiency with Adobe software preferred. Prior experience working with Breakthrough preferred. Candidates with fluency in Spanish, Vietnamese, Bosnian, or other languages are strongly encouraged to apply. Compensation There is a $2,500 stipend for this position, paid in two, monthly installments. Schedule Days run approximately 8:30-3:30, four days per week (flexible), from June 20-August 12; hours may need to be flexible on select special event days.
