To perform motion analysis with OTRS, you need to take video of the objective motion or operation with video camera, and make movie files. Please set the video format of the camera to the one shown in the table below. If the camera doesn‘t have an appropriate option, please convert the format of the movie files by using video converter software.

Taking Video


1.

ATTENTION 1. Some movie files even in the format above might not be usable depending on video camera or

converter software.

2. It is recommended to take video with about five second additional edges on both the beginning and the end of the objective motion to make analysis easy.

3. Jaggy may appear on the image while playing video of interlace mode. Please keep it in mind that OTRS can not remove jaggy.

4. Play function may be unstable while using the features listed below (depending on the bit rate of video).

* To reverse play in more than double speed in the motion analysis * To play or reverse play in more than double speed in the comparative analysis. For your information, bit rate and the features of movie file have the general relation shown below. 5. The video may stop instantaneously while playing it without waste in the motion analysis and the

comparative analysis, playing rearranged motions and playing a bar in the line balancing mode.

2.1 Launching

Tools : Provides the following functions:

[ ] Combine Videos : Combines multiple videos into a single video. Setup Menu Switch Language : Switches the language to be displayed on the screen. OTRS Configuration : Configures the fundamental settings for using OTRS. Information Menu Version Info : Shows version, license type, model, options of OTRS installed. OTRS Support Site : Jumps to OTRS maintenance support site. Manual : Shows the operation manual.

[Select Movie] screen has the functions listed below.

[Saved Data] Screen Functions 1 Navigation window : Provides access to folders where OTRS data are stored. (the folders reside in an area allocated within OTRS.) You can make folders and save data freely.

Library : Provides access to OTRS data. The color of the bars indicates the function with which the data is made. Tools : Provides the following functions: Copy File, Crop File, Paste, Move to Recycle Bin, Export When you select a data, the function menu with which the data is made appears. Other available functions are shown in “Other” menu.

You can find data saved within OTRS and start each function of OTRS. [Saved Data] screen has the functions listed below.

How to migrate analysis data or environmental settings of an OTRS10 PC to another OTRS10 PC:

①Data migration from [OTRS10 PC] to [OTRS10 PC]

1. Click [Export] in [ ] menu. [OTRS10 Export--Starting Wizard] appears.

4. Select a file and click [Open]. Export file name appears in file name area. 5. Click [Next]. [OTRS Import—Specify Import Folder] appears. 6. Specify folder where to import data and click [Next]. [OTRS Import—Specify Import Option] appears. 7. Specify import option and click [Next]. *Extract movies from export file. *Extract narrations from export file. *Extract links from export file. Specifying “Extract ... from export file” extracts files from export file and places them in specified folder. [OTRS Import—Starting Import] appears.

7. Click [Start]. Analysis data is imported. [OTRS Import—Start Import] appears. 8. Click [Start]. Analysis data is imported. The screen of the right appears after importing. 9. Click [Completed]. [Import] window closes. Imported data appears in [Saved Data] tab of OTRS Explorer.

3. This section describes how to perform a motion analysis of a video.

3.1 Start New Analysis

Follow the steps below to start a new motion analysis.

1. Click [Start New Analysis] button.

3. 3.2 Analysis（Analyzing video）

(1) Screen description

[Analysis] screen has the functions listed below.

[Analysis] Screen Functions Toolbar : Changes display appearance, print / export, save information, language, etc. Video Frame : Plays the selected video, play backward, add captions, etc. Element Work table : Displays a list of elements analyzed. Property : Edits the detailed information of elements and displays whole state of analysis.

Please refer to “(3) Analyzing the video” about the operation of analysis and element. Please refer to “(4) Other functions” about the tools and the property.

“Cycle” : If a video contains a repetition of the same operation, it can be divided into “cycles”. OTRS can have 20 cycles at most.

1. Select [Edit Info] option under [ ] menu.

“Configuration Set to Use” is a set of categories, word pickup, logo, print header/footer.

If you change “Configuration Set to Use”, the categories associated with all elements will be cleared.

This section describes how to divide a recorded video into elements and save the data.

(3) Analyzing the video

(i) Start the motion analysis

An element is a motion unit that constitutes a meaningful operation. Depending on the video you analyze, there may be a combination of multiple elements. Motion analysis is the process of dividing a video into elements. When a video contains repeated operations, one complete operation is counted as one cycle. You can analyze up to 20 cycles of operations. After performing the motion analysis, you can enter descriptions of the elements, link to related files, and even add voice narration.

You can control video playback and analysis with the keyboard and mouse in addition to the screen icons.

1. Set the motion analysis start point. There are two ways to set the start point: playing back the video or with the timeline.

1. Play the video to the desired position and click [ ] button.

To make fine adjustment, you can advance or reverse the video frame-by-frame. Click [>] button to advance or [<] button to reverse. You can also roll the mouse wheel forward or backward to advance or reverse the video frame-by-frame.

1. Move (drag) the blue line to the desired position in the timeline.

The video is not marked as element during Ex. Msmt..

You cannot start motion analysis while the video is playing in reverse.

２． Left-click in the video frame.

The video frame will turn light blue and the status Ex. Msmt in yellow will turn to Measuring in light blue. The video will be played in Measurement mode.

Click [ ] icon to return the video being analyzed to the motion analysis start point. After returning to the motion analysis start point, you can play the video again.

1. Left-click in the video frame at the end point.

This will mark the segment as an element.

A row will be added for the next motion analysis.

The video frame will turn yellow and Ex. Msmt will appear in yellow.

(ii) Define an element

You can select time unit from: [Sec] : second [DM] : decimal minute [H:M:S] : hour:minute:second

When the analysis of one element ends, left-clicking at the next start point will start the motion analysis again.

1. Move to the motion analysis start point for the next element and left-click in the video frame.

(iii) Analyze the next element

You can move to the start point using the timeline or by playing the video to the desired position.

This will mark the segment as an element.

1. Move the playback position to where the element is to be split.

2. Click the [ ] icon. The element will be split at the playback

position.

1. Right-click in the video frame at the start point of the invalid motion.

The video will be played in Invalid Motion mode.

２．Right-click again.

The invalid motion measurement will begin.

(iv) Define invalid motions

If you find an invalid motion during a motion analysis, right-click in the video frame to mark the segment as an invalid motion.

3．Right-click again at the end point.

The segment will be marked as invalid motion. The video switches from Invalid Motion to Measuring.

4．Right-click again. Measurement stops.

You can select and enter element names using the Word Pickup function.

3. (vi) Grid description

The grid has the following items.

[ ] : Select elements (Checking the box at the top makes all boxes checked.) Rating : [value-added time x rating = Standard time] holds true. Total of Selected : Shows the total time of the checked elements. Total : Shows the total time of all elements.

Comparative Value : Enter a value compared to standard time. Difference : Shows the result of [Standard time – Comparative Value]. Combination Chart : Used to dispatch the time in Standard Work Combination Chart. Irregular : Check the elements which are done irregularly. Start : Start time in the video. Registration Status : Shows the status of registration of comment, link, narration. Pen : Colored when the comment is entered. (Importance High:red, Middle:yellow, Low:green) Link : Colored when the link is set. Mic : Colored when the narration is registered.

You can substitute the terms for the ones you use in the usual work at OTRS Configuration.

location, and click [OK] button.

The analysis data are saved when [Saved] window opened.

This finishes the motion analysis.

3. (4) Other functions

You can click one of the tool icons and select tools from the contextual menu.

You can switch the language of the currently displayed window.

The changed language setting applies only to the currently displayed window. Japanese English

3. 3.3 Play（Playing Back Analyzed Video）

Follow the steps below to play back the result of the motion analysis. There are several playback options, such as cutting out segments marked as

invalid motions from the playback and playing back each element operation while changing the overall speed.


[Play] screen has the functions listed below.

[Play] Screen Functions Toolbar : Change display layout, print / export, save information, display settings, etc. Video frame : Play the selected video, play backwards, add captions, etc. Element table : Displays a list of element in the video. Property : Provides tools for element and entire videos.

OTRS provides the following video playback modes and methods.

Play Raw Video Plays the video file from beginning to end. Play without Waste Elimination Plays the video while reproducing the analyzed states. Play without Invalid Motion Plays the video with invalid motions and idle time cut out. 4. OTRS lets you play back two videos simultaneously that have been analyzed into

elements, so that you can compare them on the screen.

Follow the steps below to start a new comparison.

1. Click [Start Comparison] in [Start Other Function].

[Registration] Screen Functions List of analyzed operations : Displays a list of analyzed operation data sets. Element table : Displays the elements included in the analysis data. Video frame : Plays back a video of the selected elements.

The chart is made from the analysis data before and after improvement using takt time as a guide. You can see the time series of analyzed elements, the aggregation of time, the performance per unit time and the simulation of production efficiency.

stored on the list of operation details.

1. Select the motion element to be moved in the list of operation details and click the [ ] and [ ] icons to move it to the desired position.

The elements in the list will be reordered.

You can also reorder elements in the list of operation details by dragging and dropping elements.

You can add an element to the list of operation details.

1. Click [ ] icon. A new irregular operation line will be added. ２．Enter the irregular operation name,

the items per turn, and the seconds per turn.

This will create the irregular operation. The values will be included in [Cycle Time

Including Irregular Operations] field in the total box.

Description of items items/turn : enter the number of occurrence of irregular operation. sec./turn : enter the time for one irregular operation. sec./item : shows the time of one occurrence of irregular operation. Total : summing up of sec./item

1. Select the row where the new element will be added and click the [ ] icon.

Takt time is calculated from [time per shift(min.)] and [items per shift].

1. Click [Takt Time] field. [Takt Time] entry box will appear. ２．Enter the time per required unit and

the number of required units per shift. The takt time will be set.

When a video is displayed, you can save the displayed video frame as a still image.

1. Click the [ ] icon. The video playback windows and image

capture windows will appear. 2. Select the corresponding work

operation and click the [ ] icon. The video of the selected work data will play.

1. Click the [Save] button. This will save the standard work

combination chart’s information.

You can simulate the optimization of work distribution by moving elements of analysis data by drag & drop. It’s called leveling of work process of a line, which reveals the wait time and reduce the waste process.

Each bar built on the screen can be played as a video and you can see the virtual operation.

Work Title, Cycle(s), Inv., Total of Val, Total Element, Data No. 2. Enter a title for the work data set in

the list of analyzed operations.

(iv) Creating a new work data set You can create a new work data set by combining motion elements from multiple

work data sets.

You can modify the title, the presence or absence of invalid motion time (with the check box), and the selected cycle.

You can reorder work data sets when there are two or more work data sets in the list of analyzed operations.

(v) Reordering saved work data sets

1. Select the work data set to move and click the [ ] icon.

The selected work data set will move up the list.

(vi) Deleting a work data set

You can delete work data sets from the list of analyzed operations.

1. Select the work data set to delete from the list of analyzed operations and click the [ ] icon.


The window on the right will open when an element was moved to another line. Clicking the [Yes] button will delete the moved element along with the work data set.

1. Select the motion analysis data set. A list of elements will appear. 2. Select the element to play and click

the [ ] icon.

The video of the selected element will play.

OTRS will display a video of the work data set or element.

Follow the steps below to enter information for the line balancing chart.

7. (2) Creating the Line Balancing Chart

[Line Balancing Chart] screen has the functions listed below.

[Line Balancing Chart] Screen Functions Element table : Displays a list of the elements being edited.

Work organization graph : Displays a graph of the created work organization. (The bars are colored differently from each other so that the state of leveling is understood at a glance.)


By editing elements, you can replace and move the motion elements that make up the operation data in the work organization.

In [Line Balancing Chart] window, you can edit and move the elements loaded as operation data.

You can change display layou with the toolbar ( ) icons.



7. (ii) Set the takt time (cycle time)

1. Click [Takt Time] field. An input area of takt time appears. ２．Enter [Time per Shift(min.)] and [Items per Shift]. Takt time is calculated and a red line is drawn.

Click [ ] and you can enter takt time directly.

[Arrangement Efficiency] is: [Total time of all bars / (takt time x number of bars) x 100]

1. Select the motion element or elements to move in the element table and click the [ ] icon.

The elements in the element table will be

reordered.

You can reorder motion elements within a work operation when there are two or more elements saved in a work operation.

You can add elements.

1. Select the row where the new element will be added and click the [ ] icon. An element will be added at the selected row.

(v) Deleting an element You can delete saved element data.

1. Click the [ ] icon. The selected element data will be deleted.

You can level off the analysis data referring to takt time.

You can edit the analysis data showing the names of the elements.

7. (viii) Leveling

You can move elements to make the height of each bar at the same level.

1.Select an element and click [ ] icon. The element moves.

Total Time

The difference between the bar that will be leveled and takt time is calculated.

Left selected total time : Shows total time of selected elements in the list before move. Right total time : Shows total time of selected bar as after move. Difference : [(Left selected total time + Right total time) – (Takt time)]

7. (ix) Playing a video

By selecting an element from the element table and clicking the [ ] icon, OTRS will display the element’s video at its starting position.

1. Click the [ ] icon. The video playback window will appear. 2. Click the [ ] icon. The video of the selected work data will play.

You can play the video of a bar edited in the line balancing screen. That is a simulation of changing line operations.

(3) Play

[Play] screen has the functions listed below.

[Play] Screen Functions Video frame : Plays back a video of the selected elements. Element table : Displays a list of the elements. Select playback : Selects the videos to be played back and the playback method.


The operation is same as in “Analysis” section: playing video, changing size, comment, link, image, etc.

1. Click the [Save] button. The line balancing chart will be saved.
