Introduction

Congratulations on your purchase of this Honda Security System.Your Honda Security System is the product of years of researchand development. It will give you many years of reliableperformance, protection, and convenience.

The system consists of two major components: a main unit and aremote control transmitter.

The main unit is the “brain” of the system . The built-inprogrammable microprocessor monitors your vehicle for optimalprotection while offering various options to tailor the system to thepreferences of different users.

To take full advantage of your Honda Security System, weencourage you to read this manual thoroughly.

Due to the expertise required to properly install the HondaSecurity System, we highly recommend that the installation beperformed by your Honda dealer. Proper wiring and componentplacement are essential for optimum system performance.

Security System Transmitter Does Not Work o r Its Range Is Too Short

SYMPTOM

The range of the security system remote transmitter istoo short (less than 30 feet) or the transmitter does notwork at all.

PROBABLE CAUSE

A faulty security system control unit or a faultytransmitter.

VEHICLES AFFECTED

All with a security system control unit serial number fromAW51500018 to AW51507006.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

• Check the serial number of the security systemcontrol unit. Replace the control unit if it is within theaffected serial number range (see VEHICLESAFFECTED).

• Make sure the security system is not in Valet mode,then replace the transmitter’s battery, and test theoperation of the transmitter.

1. Check the serial number on the security systemcontrol unit.

• On all vehicles except the Accord V6, the controlunit is mounted on the bottom of the driver’s seat.You can check the serial number using a mirror.

• On the Accord V6, the control unit is mountedbehind the steering column lower cover. Lookbehind the cover to check the serial number onthe bottom of the control unit.

2. If the control unit serial number is from AW51500018to AW51507006, replace it (see PARTSINFORMATION). After replacing the control unit,reprogram all the transmitters for the vehicle.Transmitters that have not been reprogrammed will nolonger work (see TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING).

3. If the control unit is not within the affected serialnumber range, make sure the security system is notin Valet mode, then replace the battery in thetransmitter, and check the system operation.

4. If the transmitter’s range is still too short, check thesystem with the customer’s other transmitter or aknown-good transmitter. To program a known-goodtransmitter for this test, refer to TRANSMITTERPROGRAMMING.

5. Replace the original transmitter if the system workswith the customer’s other transmitter or theknown-good transmitter. To program a newtransmitter, refer to TRANSMITTERPROGRAMMING.

TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING

1. Turn the ignition switch on, then immediately pressand hold the valet/disarm switch to enter theprogramming mode. Continue to hold the switchthroughout the procedure. (The switch is located onthe dashboard lower cover.)

VALET/DISARM SWITCH

2. When the LED on top of the steering column beginsto flash, press and release the “silent” button or the“chirp” button on the transmitter. If you need toprogram more than one transmitter, press the“silent” button or “chirp” button on each transmitterwithin ten seconds of pressing it on the firsttransmitter. (You can program up to four transmittersper vehicle.)

Press eitherbutton.

3. Release the valet/disarm switch to exit theprogramming mode.
