END – USER and MARKET
The project will focus on the end-user and the future market environment
* Service providers try to create customer intimacy* The media and telecommunications market is increasingly competitive and deregulated• What business models apply and what is the socio-economic viability ?• What is the deployment model ?• How to make it future proof
CONTENT
On the content side it will be studied which mechanisms are needed to convert multimedia content to a specific network service platform, and to prevent excessive cost in the production system of the content provider.
Content needs to be enhanced with meta-data for multiple platforms. The project will look at meta-data frameworks, like i.e. TV-Anytime, MPEG-7, MPEG-21, RDF, EBU P/Meta, etc.
NETWORKS
A major challenge is to offer such new services across a variety of networks, both services across a variety of networks, both fixed and mobile
•CATV network, Docsis•Fixed broadband xDSL•Mobile GSM, GPRS, UMTS•W-LAN, Ethernet, WiMax

The diversity of available networks and network service platforms and the multitude of available user terminals causes new challenges for the content providers and the network service providers.
In this context the project will study how the following questions can be answered:
•Which architecture is needed for the multimedia content distribution system ?•Which concepts and technologies are applicable ?•How does the client want to consume the content ?•Which deployment models are possible for such a multimedia content distribution platform ?
