OPENING HYMN: O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL

A READING FROM THE BOOK OF THE PROPHET JEREMIAH

The days are coming, says the LORD, when I will fulfill the promise I made to the house of Israel and Judah.

In those days, in that time, I will raise up for David a just shoot ; he shall do what is right and just in the land.

In those days Judah shall be safe and Jerusalem shall dwell secure; this is what they shall call her: “The LORD

our justice.” THE WORD OF THE LORD. THANKS BE TO GOD.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM

Page 3: OPENING HYMN: O COME, O COME, EMMANUEL

A READING FROM THE FIRST LETTER OF PAUL TO THE THESSALONIANS:

Brothers and sisters: May the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all,

just as we have for you, so as to strengthen your hearts, to be blameless in holiness before our God and

Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all his holy ones. Amen. Finally, brothers and sisters, we ear-

nestly ask and exhort you in the Lord Jesus that, as you received from us how you should conduct your-

selves to please God and as you are conducting yourselves you do so even more. For you know what in-

structions we gave you through the Lord Jesus. THE WORD OF THE LORD. THANKS BE TO GOD

A READING FROM THE HOLY GOSPEL ACCORDING TO LUKE:

Jesus said to his disciples: “There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on earth nations

will be in dismay, perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves. People will die of fright in anticipa-

tion of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then they will

see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. But when these signs begin to happen,

stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand. “Beware that your hearts do not

become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by

surprise like a trap. For that day will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth. Be vigilant at all

times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand be-

fore the Son of Man.” THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD. PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

OFFERTORY HYMN: MARANTHA, LORD MESSIAH

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION

Soul of Christ, sanctify me.

Body of Christ, save me.

Blood of Christ, inebriate me.

Water from the side of Christ, wash me.

Passion of Christ, strengthen me.

O Good Jesus, hear me.

Within your wounds hide me.

Permit me not to be separated from you.

From the wicked foe, defend me.

At the hour of my death, call me

and bid me come to you

That with your saints

I may praise you for ever and ever.

Amen.

PRAYER TO ST. MICHAEL

St. Michael the Archangel,

defend us in battle,

be our protection against the wickedness

and snares of the devil.

May God rebuke him

we humbly pray;

and do thou,

O Prince of the Heavenly host,

by the power of God,

cast into hell

Satan and all the evil spirits

who prowl about the world

seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.

2021ARCHBISHOP’S ANNUAL APPEAL

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I am very grateful for the generosity of donors this year to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, Reach-

ing Out, Healing Together. So far, over 33,400 individuals and families have pledged more than

$9,000,000. Nonetheless in these challenging times we are still one million dollars

short of this year’s targeted goal, so if you have not yet made a gift I invite you to

please do so.

Achieving the 2021 Appeal goal will make it possible for us to sustain the many

ministries, outreach and good works carried out in your name throughout the

three counties of the Archdiocese. The Appeal helps fund any number of essen-

tial activities ranging from the education of our seminarians to the work of Catho-

lic Charities.

And looking outward to the wider community, since 1997 the Appeal has funded the Vicariate Outreach

Program with over $19 million in grants to local charitable organizations. With the pandemic these local

organizations are more vital than ever, yet they find an increasing demand for their help. In September

the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal made grants totaling more than $1 Million to 184 community organiza-

tions in Litchfield, New Haven, and Hartford counties. Recipients included local organizations like Fran-

ciscan Home and Hospice Care, Columbus House, Branford Community Dining Room, Guilford Inter-

faith Ministries, New Haven PAL, Wheat in West Haven, Springs Learning Center, Amistad Catholic

Worker House, or the Apostle Immigrant Services, all of which, in different ways, provide your neigh-

bors with material, spiritual and social help.

It’s not too late to join your fellow Catholics in the Archdiocese in making a donation. Every gift, no

matter the size, will make a difference in someone’s life. This weekend is Commitment Weekend across

the Archdiocese. So if you’ve not already made your gift or pledge please do so today. Appeal Envelopes

are available in the Church, at all the exits. Please take one and be as generous as your means and circum-

stances permit.

Thank you for your consideration and please be assured of my prayers and best wishes for you and

your loved ones.

Sincerely,

The Most Reverend Leonard P. Blair

Archbishop of Hartford

From the Office of Catholic Social Justice

Pope Francis' prayer for November

Good Father,

who looks at your sons and daughters with love,

We know that you have deep compassion

for those who suffer the most.

Your Son Jesus healed so many,

restoring sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf,

speech to the mute and walking to the disabled.

Today, we pray for those whose heart is clouded

by sadness and pain;

Brothers and Sisters lost in depression

and extreme exhaustion.

Send your Spirit upon them to find rest and comfort.

And give us a heart to love and support them,

opening to them paths of hope and new life. Amen.

tion of Catholic Mental Ministers. Please see link:
