Director (of British Council Hong Kong) Robert Ness, Professor Amanda Dowd, Distinguished Guests, Graduands, Ladies and Gentlemen:

It is with great delight to welcome you all to the WMG Graduation Ceremony 2015. Today, we are here to celebrate the fruitful partnership between VTC and WMG, University of Warwick, and also to honour the hard work and achievements of our graduands.

May I also take this opportunity to express my gratitude to our Guest of Honour, Mr Robert Ness, Director of British Council Hong Kong for spending the precious Sunday morning with us to witness our success in grooming future leaders in the past 6 years. We are indeed very pleased to have your presence today.

VTC is committed to fostering and facilitating the advancement of Hong Kong by developing a globally competitive working population. Through the strategic partnership with WMG in the past few years, we have nurtured hundreds of students by enhancing their professional knowledge and skills, and at the same time, developing their international perspective, which is considered to be a vital element to succeed in today’s world. Our ever-stronger bonding enables a wider student population to benefit from our collaboration, and I am glad to see an expanding programme provision to meet the needs of various groups of stakeholders.

To retain the uniqueness of Hong Kong as an international city, we should broaden our overseas experience while maintaining a close relationship with the Mainland so as to stay competitive in the globalised economy. Today, in addition to local students, we have graduands coming from other regions such as Thailand, Mainland and Taiwan. The students mix reflects the unique learning experience of our graduands have had during their studies at WMG.

My dear graduands, you are lucky enough to have been imparted

knowledge, wisdom and a valuable combination of Asian and Western perspectives. It is hoped that you will be able to translate that value-addition into actions. We have given you strong wings. It is up to you now to fly high!

As the Chairperson of VTC and also as the Industrial Fellow of WMG, I take pride in witnessing your academic accomplishment in such a significant occasion. I shall continue my effort to forge a closer partnership between VTC and WMG and expand the quality learning opportunities for the young people in Hong Kong. Please allow me to end my speech by reiterating my heartfelt congratulations to all the graduands and my warmest wishes to you for your future endeavours. Thank you.
