The Humanities Area - 2013 and beyond• History, Geography and RE lessons in Key Stage 3

(Years 7, 8 and 9) and Key Stage 4 (GCSE) will be

taught in seven subject specialist classrooms on

the top floor of H-Block, following a complete

refurbishment.

• History, Geography and RE lessons in Key Stage 5

(Sixth Form) will be taught in specialist seminar

rooms around the new Learning Resource Centre.

• ICT provision supplied by our own laptops, plus a

new large Humanities-specific ICT room/ learning

space.

• Decoration will be provided by both permanent and

temporary displays of inspirational student work.

• Complete refurbishment of Humanities subject

specialist area:

– Seven subject specialist classrooms for Key Stage

3 and 4 History, Geography and RE

– New large Humanities ICT room/ learning space

– Removal of old walled cupboards from classrooms, to

create extra learning space

– New central project/ artefact display area

– Refurbishment of lift, for use by students with mobility

needs

– New eco-efficient temperature regulating windows

– New

partitioning, plasterboard, flooring, ceiling, doors, trim,

electrics etc.

Humanities (History, Geography, RE) – What

more do we offer, beyond the timetable?• Humanities teachers at Purbeck School are dedicated to

extending students’ learning beyond normal lessons. Examples

from the past year…

– Revision sessions (for students approaching exams)

– Visiting speakers (e.g. Bishop of Salisbury, Sandford

Project archaeologist, Wareham Church)

– Masterclasses (for more able students)

– Fieldwork (e.g. Neasden Temple, Purbeck rivers, Chesil

Beach, Imperial War Museum)

– Community projects (e.g. Lulworth Castle research project)

– University Outreach (e.g. Southampton Uni

lectures, Geographical Society Student Ambassador visits)

– Overseas field trips (e.g. Berlin and Krakow, France and

Belgium, Holland)

– Booster sessions (students requiring additional support)

– Inter-School Conferences (e.g. PRE with TH School)
