Presidential Perspective
Dear Fellow Artists,
Is summer really over? Once again it has whizzed by. It’s now time to
catch your breath and get ready for a busy artistic LMA year. So much
will be happening that I don’t know where to start.
If you miss next Saturday’s meeting, you’ll miss a lot. So, prepare
yourself for a longer-than-usual business meeting as your board lets
you know about what’s on the League’s agenda – not the least of which
will be a new logo and a new image. We’re evolving into an
organization that encompasses more artistic endeavors and involves
itself more in the southeastern Wisconsin community.
One of the board’s goals is to reach out to other artists with whom we
can work to strengthen the arts environment in the area. With that in
mind, you’ll meet Nehemiah Edwards who heads NVENT Arts, a
group of young inner city artists that want to make their mark on the
Milwaukee market. His perspectives and ideas will give us all a new
direction and stimulate our creative juices.
And, affiliate member Ric Hartman of the Gallery of Wisconsin Art
will be working with LMA to coordinate two new opportunities, a
holiday art fair and a summer plein air/art fair in West Bend. Plus, Ric
will be hosting our holiday social gathering in December at GOWA.
Did I whet your appetite? I hope so. This is only a small preview of
what’s in store over the next 12 months. Be there on Saturday to find
out more.
Artistic regards,
Jack Pachuta
LMA President

Grid Rental Remember to take advantage of the grids owned by the LMA. There are high-quality
display grids available for a nominal rental to LMA members for exhibits, shows and art
fairs. The sizes are: 26 each = 7’x2’
16 each = 6’x2’ (along with rental comes 87 hooks for hanging paintings and 25
connectors. While the 7’ grids will hold more art, the 6’ grids fit better
into standard SUVS and are lighter and less cumbersome.)
Grids are available for rent to LMA members only. Cost is
$5.00 per grid or $25.00 for 12. Email Jewel Riano at
[email protected] to arrange payment and secure rental
dates and contact Tom Pscheid at 414-453-6187 to pick up grids at his residence in Wauwatosa.

Save the Date – Wednesday, September 27th
“Day of Artistic Expression”
The League of Milwaukee Artists has been invited as a group to spend a day atop the Grohmann
Museum to paint, draw, photograph or simply breathe in and observe beautiful downtown
Milwaukee from above.
The sculpture garden atop the Grohmann Museum is more than an extension of the Man at
Work art collection. The roof is a Green Roof — an energy-saving and environmentally friendly
alternative to a conventional rooftop.
The plant and grass-covered roof keeps the building cooler in the summer, saves energy and
extends the useful life of the roof. Rainwater is also trapped in the plantings, reducing the
amount of storm water runoff that enters the city’s sewer system.
A dozen large, bronze sculptures – men toiling in the field and foundry, heaving hammers or
pinching molten metal with hot tongs – perch on the roof line of the Grohmann Museum. These
fellows, each about 9 feet tall and weighing in at a thousand pounds each, have a commanding
view of a city that was built on the hard work they depict.
The commissioned sculptures, replicas of smaller bronzes in the collection, were fabricated in
the Philippines through a process called lost-foam casting that transformed them from their
original size of about 19-inches to larger-than-life scale.
This event will begin at noon and end approximately 4pm. Museum admission is $5.00, no need
to register or pay any participation fee, just show up and join us for a fun-filled day. The
Grohmann Museum is located at:
Milwaukee School of Engineering
1000 North Broadway
Milwaukee WI 53202

LMA Currently Exhibiting at Anderson Art Center in Racine
We are pleased to have this prestigious
venue for our members to exhibit
through the middle of October in not
just one, but three of Anderson’s
primary galleries, thus occupying the
Main, East and Upper Galleries.
The reception on August 27th was well attended and a good time was had by all. Many thanks to
curator Candace Hoffman for her thoughtful efforts in presenting as well as promoting this event.
Special thanks to Awards Juror Dan Simoneau. Referring to himself as a “contemporary realist”
Dan is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, the National Oil & Acrylic
Painters Society, the National Watercolor Society and is the president of the International
Society of Acrylic Painters. Dan studied fine arts at the University of Southern Maine,
graduating Magna Cum Laude with majors in painting, printmaking and pottery and a minor in
art history.
A warm thank you to the LMA members listed below for participating in this event. Candace
was quite effusive in her compliments on what an outstanding selection of art we submitted and
how very proud their organization is to represent the League of Milwaukee Artists in this exhibit.
She was particularly impressed with the wide variance of subject matter and mediums used.

Holiday Art Fair & Exhibition 2017
CALL FOR ARTISTS
As you may recall, Ric Hartman, who attended an LMA spring meeting, has recently opened a
beautiful new gallery in West Bend.
Mr. Hartman, a collector of early Wisconsin
art, opened the Gallery of Wisconsin Art in
June of this year, with a ceremony held at the
West Bend museum.
“There is such a rich heritage of Wisconsin art, yet no gallery specializes in promoting or selling
it,” stated Hartman. “That will be our role.”
The facility is at 303 Water St. and is adjacent to the Milwaukee River, the Eisenbahn Trail, the
Museum of Wisconsin Art and to the city’s sculpture collection.
Mr. Hartman’s gallery has become one of the largest in the state with more than 6,000 square
feet of display space. The restored two-level, 10,000-square-foot building will also be home to a
nonprofit coffee shop, operated by the Volunteer Center of Washington County. It will open this
fall.
The League of Milwaukee Artists has been invited to participate in GOWA’s inaugural holiday
art fair and exhibition coming this December, along with the Cedarburg Artists Guild and the
Kettle Moraine Fine Arts Guild. This is a great opportunity to increase your audience and sales
over the holidays. The deadline is fast approaching, make sure you don’t miss out!
For your convenience, please see the attached prospectus which can also be located at our
website: www.milwaukeeartists.org/exhibits
