2 LOCAL CRAFT INTERFACE
2.1 LCI Terminal Overview
The LCI terminal is used for installing, provisioning and maintainingnetwork elements. It is connected to the BS/BU and TS/Bus via the LCIport RS-232 interface. All LCI software resides in the BS/BU. The LCIterminal can also be used to manage the Termainal Stations associatedwith the Base Station using the air link.
Using the LCI terminal, the operator can obtain information regardingcurrent active services and the resources (Telecom and air links) that arebeing utilized by the network elements. The information presented is at alltime accurate and updated.
The LCI terminal is used to configure network elements. Base Stationelements and associated Terminal Stations. The BS/Bus and TS/Bus eachstore their current configuration (hardware/software installation data, operating parameters, subscriber data) internally. The operator can alwaysretrieve specific up-to-date information about the configuration of thesystem and the individual network elements via the operator PC.
Using the LCI terminal, the operator can define and/or retrieve thefollowing:
Physical installation data
Service provisioning
Activate BS/BUs and TS/BUs
Activate individual BS/BU and TS/BU ports connected to networkelements
Current active alarms
Software downloads

3 REQUIREMENTS
The LCI can be connected to the BS/BUs and the TS/BUs via an RS-232interface.
In order to operate the LCI the following is required:
PC platform as local craft terminal.
Serial cable, TP4 wires, flat with RJ45 to a 9-pin D-type or25-pin D-type connectors. (See the Commissioning Guide forconnector pinout descriptions).
Communications software (PROCOMM. PCPLUS, PROWIN etc.).
3.1 LCI Structure
LCI parameters in the Base Station and the Terminal Station are groupedaccording to their function, as displayed in the main menu(see Figure 3-3). Figure 3-1 and Figure 3-2 illustrates the LCI program treefor the BS/BU and the TS/BU.

3.2 Starting and LCI Session
Attach the Local Craft Terminal to the BS/BU LCI port, using an availableCOM port with the following settings:
9600 bps baud rate
no parity
8 data bits
1 stop bit
The LCI software is embedded in the BU RAM and uses a VT-100 terminalcompatible, RS-232 interface.
After making the LCI connection, run the communications software.
NOTE
Set the terminal type to ANSIin the communications software.
While the BS/BU is initializing, a number of messages are displayed on theCraft terminal.
After the initialization has completed, the Main Menu is displayed on theCraft screen.
To re-display the LCI menu screen, press .
The Global Navigation Commands are attached to each LCI screen.
Type the then press at any timein order to perform therequested function. The following table details the global key symbolcommands for the Main structure.

3.9 SNMP Based Management
Software for managing the WALKair V3.1 contains the following interfaces:
! Ethernet for local management
! Local Craft Interface
WALKnet, WALKairs management system is connected to the BS-BUs viaEthernet interface. All BS-BUs at the Base Station are connected to anEthernet hub. Ethernet traffic is carried to the NMS central point via routerconnected to the DCN network.
Each BS-BU is an SNMP agent with a unique IP address. Each BS-BUserves as a proxy agent to its Terminal Stations. The managementprotocol between the BS-BU and its Terminal Station is proprietary and
transferred out of the payload traffc band. The WALKnet SNMP basedmanagement system is described in the WALKnet User Manual.
WALKnet provides graphical visualization of network objects anddescribes each network node status. In addition, the NMS enablesparameter changes, traffic control, performance monitoring, statistical, andauditing functions.
