Munizioniere di Palazzo Ducale, Piazza Matteotti - Genova

curated by Vanda Elisa Gatti

scientific supervision by prof. Giorgio Lorenzo Colombo with S.A.V.E. - Studi Analisi Valutazioni Economiche

Out of Sight is a photojournalistic project that, hosted by the Festival della Scienza di Genova, becomes also a scientific emotional journey. While on exhibition, Nanni Fontana’s last project is infact accompanied by articles and infographics as well as many epidemiological, morphological, pharmacoeconomic informa-tion and prevention tools. Between 2011 and 2013, I’ve investigated the epidemic in five countries – Thailand, Mozambique, Brazil, Ukrai-ne and the U.S – to document and share the stories of those who are affected by HIV and AIDS. In each country, I’ve explored critical aspects of an epidemic that is still affecting 36 million people, mostly living in sub saha-ran Africa. In 2012 there were 2.3 million new infections, more than 4.000 just in Italy, where one out of four HIV-positive people doesn’t know about his status.

Within the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), signed in September 2000 by 191 Heads of State and Go-vernment, OUT OF SIGHT is strongly connected to Goal #6 that aims to “shut down by 2015, reversing the trend, the spread of HIV/AIDS and achieve universal access to treatment for all those who need it”. Nanni Fontana’s work is intended to inform and educate the public with an interactive approach, both scientific and journalistic.

The exhibition will be open: 9:00am - 5:20pm (Mon-Fri); 10:00am - 6:20pm (Sat-Sun). In addition, there will be 2 events linked with the exhibition: • October 27, at 11am, the conference “Safebook, proteggi il tuo futuro” with Prof. Maurizio Bini, Prof. Giovanni Del Bene and photographer Nanni Fontana.• October 29, at 6pm, the round table titled “HIV e AIDS: dalle origini ai nostri giorni” will host Prof. Giorgio Colombo along with Prof. Claudio Viscoli and Paolo Gorgoni.

In loving memory of all the HIV/AIDS experts died in the July 17, 2014 plane crash.
